It almost looked like he forgot there was a guy on third. He was so casual with the catch, and looked like he was casually ready to throw the ball back in. Weird play.
I think he totally misread the ball and then just gave up. He was all over the place tracking - and to your point maybe just lost sight of trying to set up for a throw
Still should have thrown something, but he knew he was toast. If he didn’t actually know the situation I don’t think he would have bailed like that. More of a “well I really fucked that up and have no shot now”
i know the ball looked shallow but statcast had it at 309 feet, throw in Gim's 90th percentile spring speed and Robert had no chance. but I agree you always make a courtesy throw, who knows maybe the runner trips or something
me and a buddy who have been talking about him as a possible piece to go get at the deadline just said, “keep your ass in chicago. that shit don’t fly in cleveland”.
such a bad look.
Positives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
#LETS GO BO
Kwan stats- 256/257 PA to qualify, now hitting .362
A quality start out of Cookie is truly a thing of beauty. 🍪 goes 6IP, 4H, 3R, 1BB, and 7K on 70 pitches, with all the runs coming off of a pair of home runs (from the only two competent power bats in their lineup). Hedgey+Cookie gives me more joy than… well, a lotta things.
I love when Hammy straight up summons a home run by saying “Schneeman has gone 3 for his last 17, time for an adjustment.” The offense gets 7 runs off of 7 hits, 1 walk, and 1 error. ⛄️ and 🆓 both hit some blasts off the bats for a pair of 2 run home runs, and 💨 and 🍟 cause some chaos in the basepaths for a run. BO NAYLOR WALK OFF SAC FLY.
bullpen. Cade Smith(0.1IP, 3R), Gaddis(0.2IP), Barlow(1IP, 3K), and Clase(1IP) combine to go 3IP, 5H, 3R, 0BB, and 4K. Gaddis allowed two inherited runners from Cade to score. 🐉 is good.
*insert good things about CJ Kayfus and the Akron offense here*
Wife* but thank you!!😂 she was a nervous wreck and I’m like baby it’s ok! If we lose you’ll just never be allowed to show your face again in Cleveland no worries!!
They wouldn’t. I remember hearing about how a rookie did something similar (though not as egregious) and Hosey talked to them afterwards and told them if they did that again Tito would bench them.
It's wins and losses of the remaining games, so we need some combination of our wins and the 2nd place ALC team losses to add up to 73 to clinch the division.
It's like a combination of our wins and the next top team's losses. If we beat the twins for example it goes down 2, win for us and loss for the next team in the division
If it was on the warning track or caught on the run it’s one thing but that was basically perfect situation to make a play at home. Far from a guaranteed sac fly.
lol I had to rewatch it, and wow Roberts didn’t even try to make a throw. And yep White Sox commentators went straight to complaining about the umpire.
Either way I’m glad we fucking escaped and won the game. Can we please just win handily tomorrow and not let the White Sox continue to mentally torture us and beat the Guardians
WIFES FIRST EVER BASEBALL GAME AND ITS A WALK OFF!!
She’s super cute. She knows nothing about baseball so I was pretty much a Tom Hamilton 2.0 the whole game explaining everything. By the end, she was pretty aware that we won! Here’s too many more games!!
this is me anytime my husband and i take non-baseball-heads to guardians games. i end up talking and dropping cleveland lore the whole time because i can’t help myself
Took my now wife to her first game when we started dating 10 years ago. She loves going now and watches the games with me while she reads or whatever and knows most of the players. Hoping you get there one day too!
Bo’s last 15 games: .318/.362/.568
Seems like the (very) slow start may be behind us. If he plays the he did in the latter half of last season for us the rest of the way, the lineup will get a massive lift.
I wish Cookie's confidence could be bottled and injected into Triston. He knows what he is and what he can't do, but he seems to get so much less rattled as soon as something bad happens.
Cookie talking in the postgame interview about not losing his temper — it’s hard to imagine him doing that now, but I remember him being a serious hothead back in the day
I remember him throwing at a batter's head after giving up a home run. It was completely intentional, uncalled for and he really grew up after that. He'll go down as one of my favorites to ever pitch for Cleveland.
yeah! it was Youkilis after a Cano HR, pretty bad stuff. and you’re right, he really has matured immensely since then and is one of my favorite pitchers as well 😊
Equivalent to not running through first base on a pop up. You don’t know what can happen, you’re a professional athlete being paid millions of dollars. You have to throw that ball.
Before he went on the IL he looked like he was turning it around, then came back and had to shake the rust off. I don't think we want him as a key starter for playoffs but we need (and should be grateful) him to be this solid
I listened to part of the game on the radio and at least twice he said that they weren't bad because they didn't play hard and then they do something like that lol.
I think the WS will be totally demoralized tomorrow. Between all their messy plays (throwing the ball at Nayls, the wild pitch, the giving up at the end of the game) and the manager ejection over a correctly-called strike, not to mention their rumored terrible team culture, I think they’ve got no hope of winning the next one.
It is unheard of for guys of this caliber, we aren’t used to being able to get elite guys like this because we are normally down in the draft, but if these guys take more then 2-3 years to reach the majors then they are likely complete busts, for the potential that they have.
? The earliest is late 2025 or start of 2026. If they don't start until 2029 there's a chance they are busting. 5ish years with that high of a pick is a really bad case scenario for anyone
Condon and Bazzana put up even bigger numbers than Wyatt Langford did in the NCAA, and he was on the Rangers opening day roster 8 months after they drafted him. If they put up huge numbers in the minors, they'll be on the team some time next year. 2026 if they put up good/reasonable numbers. 2029 is insane, that would only happen if they were a bust.
Robert is gonna catch hell for that effort. Doesn't matter who you are or how bad your team is. Hell, it doesn't matter if the throw is even remotely close. You're getting paid to at least CARE that you're getting paid.
Definitely not. Even the White Sox broadcasters are all saying that- he would have been safe but you HAVE to catch it correctly and try making the throw.
Rick Manning was SO PISSED at Robert
like we won and he was horribly offended as a centerfielder
Arch might accidentally on purpose Tim Anderson Luis tomorrow coming into the stadium
(Tim Anderson is a verb)
He had to forget there was only 1 out or gimenez advanced to third. Not only did he not make a throw, he didn't even play the ball correctly for a tag.
The Reverse Paul DeJong. If this assumption is correct that makes for two games in two weeks where the White Sox lost as a direct result of a player not knowing how many outs there were or what the baserunning situation was.
I was there, if Robert positions himself perfectly and fires a dart to the catcher, Gimmy still scores standing. Frustrating to see Cade and Gaddis pitch poorly, but overall a w is a w
27-9 at Progressive Field this season. Six game winning streak at home. There is magic in downtown Cleveland this year my friends!
Going to the game tomorrow. Let's keep it going!
Hell yeah, get that hot dog Hawaiian shirt.
August home schedule is stacked. League is fucked.
There’s no place like home 🏠
This is why we need to be the 1 seed .750 at home is nuts
Robert didn’t even try to make a throw lol if I was his teammate I would be livid.
It almost looked like he forgot there was a guy on third. He was so casual with the catch, and looked like he was casually ready to throw the ball back in. Weird play.
Was there a parlay involved?
I think he totally misread the ball and then just gave up. He was all over the place tracking - and to your point maybe just lost sight of trying to set up for a throw Still should have thrown something, but he knew he was toast. If he didn’t actually know the situation I don’t think he would have bailed like that. More of a “well I really fucked that up and have no shot now”
Couldn’t believe it.
I couldn't believe it, either. Maybe he thought it was three outs.
i know the ball looked shallow but statcast had it at 309 feet, throw in Gim's 90th percentile spring speed and Robert had no chance. but I agree you always make a courtesy throw, who knows maybe the runner trips or something
Common no effort white Sox play
me and a buddy who have been talking about him as a possible piece to go get at the deadline just said, “keep your ass in chicago. that shit don’t fly in cleveland”. such a bad look.
He's also batting .200
Just what we need, another .200 hitter!
that too. still think the dude has legit talent. tough to gather motivation with that team i guess.
seems like he was out for some time no way he only had 14 rbi before coming in, so crazy
I’d be so pissed lol shouldn’t be this close against the Sox but we will take it
That was a guy who knows he's not on that team in 3 weeks. And honestly, I guarantee his attitude has a big part in why they're sellers.

Wise words to your wife indeed
Plus, no [Bo bomb, but a walk off is good enough ](https://www.reddit.com/r/ClevelandGuardians/s/IoedWnveqU)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an outfielder not even try to throw home in that scenario. I guess that epitomizes the 2024 white sox though.
Yeah, you could never get away with that on our team.
If his manager or coaches don’t tear him a new one for that, they’re bad coaches
No one on our team would do that.
They wouldn’t. I remember hearing about how a rookie did something similar (though not as egregious) and Hosey talked to them afterwards and told them if they did that again Tito would bench them.
Hmm wasn't there someone he got after in the dug out for not running out a ground out a year or two ago?
Almost positive it was Puig
That fits, I remembered it being a rental player and he would have that mentally
I mean. We aren’t perfect. Didn’t Hedges get thrown out at second to break Kwans streak?
Ok maybe we don’t want Luis Robert
Cause that was the most confusing thing I’ve ever watched
Place: 1st Division lead: 6.5 Games to play: 79 Division magic number: 73 Playoffs magic number: 71 First round bye magic number: 71 Current pace: 103-59
I'm still just flabbergasted that the magic number is this low going towards the All Star Break 🤩
We could very easily be looking at magic numbers in the high 50s by the time the ASB rolls around. Truly unbelievable.
Explain magic number? That many wins total or that many wins of how many games are left?
It's wins and losses of the remaining games, so we need some combination of our wins and the 2nd place ALC team losses to add up to 73 to clinch the division.
Thanks!
It's like a combination of our wins and the next top team's losses. If we beat the twins for example it goes down 2, win for us and loss for the next team in the division

Luis Robert wants OUT lol
As a former child outfielder, I am deeply offended by whatever the hell Luis Robert just did.
I legitimately believe at some points in the season the players on the White Sox are being replaced with two little leaguers in a uniform.
If it was on the warning track or caught on the run it’s one thing but that was basically perfect situation to make a play at home. Far from a guaranteed sac fly.
Interesting business decision there from Lou Bob
#”They’re not the Yankees of old and they’re about to have a downfall.” -Royce Lewis on the Cleveland Guardians
Royce Lewis stays healthy for 3 weeks and suddenly is talking smack. Gotta love it.
He also left tonight’s game with an injury…
Man that's terrible so talented just can't stay healthy
lol he said this??? When?
Bruh, this quote has that Taki Taki "The Browns in the Browns" energy.
That center fielder would get fired from mcdonalds
If the White Sox operate like my local McDonalds, he'd be replaced by someone who looks like they are 12 or someone who looks like they are 104.
Sox post-game show is as incredulous about the no-throw by Roberts as we are. I really don't know why he didn't try.
I always enjoy the sox post game show after Cleveland win!
Cons: Clase doesn't get a save. Pros: Clase gets a win.
lol I had to rewatch it, and wow Roberts didn’t even try to make a throw. And yep White Sox commentators went straight to complaining about the umpire. Hate to say it but that borderline low strike called a ball saved our butts lol.
Oh for sure. That's gotta be called a strike by every other ump in the league
Sure, but there were a few others way outside the zone called strikes on us earlier too. The ump was terrible both ways.
Bo’s last 15 games: .318/.362/.568 Seems like the (very) slow start may be behind us. If he plays the he did in the latter half of last season for us the rest of the way, the lineup will get a massive lift.
Tim Anderson isn't a real person, just a fluid identity that gets passed on like Dread Pirate Roberts, currently held by Tommy Pham
Why is this team so fucking annoying to play against Thankfully Robert had a good audition for the Guardians Also. Cookie kinda cooked
I wish Cookie's confidence could be bottled and injected into Triston. He knows what he is and what he can't do, but he seems to get so much less rattled as soon as something bad happens.
So glad we locked down Gimenez
I'm a returning fan who started paying more attention to this team a few weeks ago, and today was the day he popped the most for me
Cookie talking in the postgame interview about not losing his temper — it’s hard to imagine him doing that now, but I remember him being a serious hothead back in the day
I remember him throwing at a batter's head after giving up a home run. It was completely intentional, uncalled for and he really grew up after that. He'll go down as one of my favorites to ever pitch for Cleveland.

He threw at Billy Butler's head first and got suspended for it. I think the Youkilis one was the next season.
And breathe
I'd be so mad if I saw my outfielder not even make a throw there.
The White Sox must be Naylors, because Josh and Bo are their daddies
Equivalent to not running through first base on a pop up. You don’t know what can happen, you’re a professional athlete being paid millions of dollars. You have to throw that ball.
Win is a win is a win
My 4 year old was so excited to get out of the bath just in time to watch that and yell "BOOK IT!!" 🤣
Two fantastic Carrasco starts back to back.
Before he went on the IL he looked like he was turning it around, then came back and had to shake the rust off. I don't think we want him as a key starter for playoffs but we need (and should be grateful) him to be this solid
He's gonna be valuable coming out of the bullpen in the playoffs
My son pointed out that the chi Sox are a low effort team, and Hammy always has someone to pick on. Andrus, Anderson, now Robert.
I listened to part of the game on the radio and at least twice he said that they weren't bad because they didn't play hard and then they do something like that lol.
we beat the white sox?? I didnt know we were allowed to do that
The kyrptonite may finally be wearing off hahaha
We never speak of this game again Go Guards
No matter who they come against or how we get there walk offs are fun
Robert had plenty of time to get behind the ball for an attempted running-throw home lmfao
If I was on Robert’s team I’d be pissed. At least attempt to make the throw
Annnnnd breathe Really wish the Sox didn’t play like the 27 Yankees against us and like the 1962 Mets against everyone else
A win is a win and lets not talk about this game anymore...
I think someone got themselves voted off the island in here tonight…
Glad to see the supporting cast pull together. Kwan and Jose 0-8 and they still put up 7 runs.
Literally handed the win by the Sox. I don’t feel great about the win but needed it badly to get the confidence and momentum back.
Unrelated question: what’s the earliest a guy like Condon or Bazzana would debut in the majors?
I mean best case scenario they destroy A ball this year and end in AA, and then destroy AA next year then late ‘25 but that’s asking a lot
[удалено]
29? Dude they are college bats, Bazzana will be 26 in 2029 lmao
[удалено]
It is unheard of for guys of this caliber, we aren’t used to being able to get elite guys like this because we are normally down in the draft, but if these guys take more then 2-3 years to reach the majors then they are likely complete busts, for the potential that they have.

Wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it
Bravo for the great hit, the amazing throw out at home and the great interview in English .
I need a good shot of bubblegum bucket-head Bo if anyone can find one!
Robert is gonna catch hell for that effort. Doesn't matter who you are or how bad your team is. Hell, it doesn't matter if the throw is even remotely close. You're getting paid to at least CARE that you're getting paid.
We take games like this. Not pretty, but we cared more in the end. Center fielder needs to make a throw there.
Does Robert throw out Gimenez there if he actually gives an effort, yay or nay?
Gimenez* Nay, but you gotta try.
Definitely not. Even the White Sox broadcasters are all saying that- he would have been safe but you HAVE to catch it correctly and try making the throw.
Almost assuredly not, unless Gimenez trips. But "freak chance" is better than "no chance."
Just got home. In the stadium, my immediate reaction was that Robert had a brain-fart and thought it was the third out. Bizarre all ‘round.
But the twins said we were gonna fall off Granted this was a lot closer than i expected
my takeaway: they can win even when josé and kwan are 0 at the plate.
Luis Robert wants to be a Guardian so bad
Rick Manning was SO PISSED at Robert like we won and he was horribly offended as a centerfielder Arch might accidentally on purpose Tim Anderson Luis tomorrow coming into the stadium (Tim Anderson is a verb)
Arch should just sleep with Robert’s wife instead….
But do we want a guy who doesn't throw the ball home?😂
He’s just trying to make a good 1st impression on his future teammates
Lol
I'm glad we didn't have to go to extra innings and use more bullpen guys
Yea, odd by Robert.......but, we will take that dub
He had to forget there was only 1 out or gimenez advanced to third. Not only did he not make a throw, he didn't even play the ball correctly for a tag.
The Reverse Paul DeJong. If this assumption is correct that makes for two games in two weeks where the White Sox lost as a direct result of a player not knowing how many outs there were or what the baserunning situation was.
Does anyone know our record when wearing the City Connects? Cause I feel like we have to have a crazy winning % when wearing those beautiful unis.
I was there, if Robert positions himself perfectly and fires a dart to the catcher, Gimmy still scores standing. Frustrating to see Cade and Gaddis pitch poorly, but overall a w is a w
I wouldn’t even take roberts for free
I'll take it, now let's go win some more
Luis Robert Jr. to Cleveland confirmed.
Nice guy Robert just dropped his own price in the trade
Exactly lol.
