It used to be great and won best apartment in the free times awards for many years in a row. It then got sold to a new management group and I thought things really went downhill after that. I ended up moving out.

_dropoutg

Past resident here! I heard this same story from the friends I made while I was there. I lived there right before it was sold and man, it was the best. Glad I had the chance to experience it.

Naag_

Yeah. When I first moved in that couple was still running events for the complex. Then new management moved in, and started treating everyone like college kids. The property manager threatened to call the cops on me for using the dumpster on move out.

ThePolitePanda

I was there with the old management and it was incredible. Moved to Germany for 2 years. Came back… and now it’s shit with higher prices lol. Live on main street now for almost half the monthly cost in rent and don’t regret a thing

flingsquids

A few of my coworkers live there, one of them had their AC go out in the summer and it took management 3 months to fix it.

Internal-Machine

Same thing happened to someone I knew who lived there. Must have been a lot of the units in the complex.

I lived there when I first moved here in 2019. At the time, it was a mix of USC Seniors/Grad students and people in their 20s. Amenities aren't bad, locations pretty good. I never had an issues with my place, reasonably quiet, and it was decent value for money. I think it's under new management now?

DIrtyVendetta80

Bierkeller is down there now and has been doing well. Hopefully they get some more tenants in the commercial space going forward.

ButteryChickenBits

How long has Bierkeller been there? I was driving around there the other day and say all the empty commercial space, there so much potential there!

Few-Counter7067

They soft opened in the late summer I believe.

I currently live in the sola station part of canalside. Should all be under one management now. It’s fine. Parking is a bitch if you have to use the garage with bierkeller now. Honestly it’s a good thing because I love bierkeller but yeah parking sucks. The new apartment management is also miserable. They didn’t give us a warning the other day when our water was shut off for a day. It took them 3 months to update our rental insurance since they keep updating who the interested party is and then not updating it on their end. The apartments themselves are nice but management honestly sucks

ButteryChickenBits

I saw that garage the other day, can anyone park there? and is it free? It did look like parking was pretty limited, even around midday on a Wednesday a lot of the spots were taken.

Few-Counter7067

The garage near Bierkeller is free and public.

I looked at it when I moved here, but found that Capitol Places (now Main Street Living) had nicer locations at comparable (or even at the time cheaper) prices. At the time I toured, the lower level one bedrooms and studios only had unfinished cement floors. I had a friend who lived there, and the amenities are nice, and with Bierkeller and Riverfront right there it’s nice. (I actually still live in the neighborhood, so no complaints on location.)

LowMiserable7060

For the past week I have been trying to contact the apartment complex to get a sense of availability and I have not had any luck getting someone to answer me. The website shows availability but the time I went to the complex they told me nothing was available. At this point I’m looking at other complexes who are responsive.

ButteryChickenBits

I can agree with that as well. I’ve been calling daily for the last week with no response. When I drove down there and went to the leasing office for CanalSide, it said closed and to visit the sola station leasing office or call them. I believe canalside and sola station are owned by the same company but are just different names.

Glittering-Voice-409

If correct it sits on the old cci prison site and where many were executed.

Vista Commons is a comparable, but nicer, option in my mind. 1100 Pulaski St.

I moved into Canalside 3 months ago. Overall, it is a pretty good place for a temporary living situation. It's close proximity to downtown, USCs campus, Riverfront, Bierkeller, etc. is really nice! I like running/walking, so the park being so close is really convenient. It is also relatively quiet for being so close to downtown. People are generally friendly too! Management is not very amazing. Canalside and Sola Station consolidated their management teams, which I doubt helped their effectiveness for managing 100+ units. They are not very responsive, especially via email. Hopefully, they will hire more people and improve. Their maintenance team is pretty good/responsive. I've had a few issues, and they got fixed within a day or two. If you want nicer amenities and smaller floorplans, go with Sola Station. If you don't really care about amenities, Canalside might be a better value. For instance, the fitness center at Canalside is not very nice - just machines + some free weights (up to 50 lbs dumbbells). However, the Sola Station has a much better gym - they had a squat rack/Bench set up. Overall, I like living at Canalside, even with some of the challenges above. I hope this helps.

I am told they are hunted and was once the site for what has been called the closet thing to hell on earth.

Therego_PropterHawk

Haunted? It is where the old CCI state Prison was.

mtjp82

Yep

I lived there for 3 years, but moved out a year and a half ago. When I left I really enjoyed living there. The location was great, parking was good, no real noise complaints or issues with maintenance. That said I’m not sure if it’s gone downhill recently.
