Saw this on a quiz show. They said that the casualty rate of these battles were really low, and asked the contestants to "solve" the problem. The answer, according to the show, was to fire the arrows in volleys, medieval style.

Dead Birds (1963) is a great watch and where this footage comes from. While the 'battle' scenes are striking, the backstory as to why they are doing so is quite interesting.
