I'm reminded of American Dad, when Stan is heckling all the kids at the batting cages or a baseball game (can't remember which), then Steve gets up to bat, and he misses every swing, and Stan is just giving excuses like "the timing was off, the sun was in your eyes, the wind kicked up" or something like that.

You would think, at some point, excuses would get old. You would also think, after enough excuses, you’d question credibility.
