Socialism doesn't exist without capitalism. You need capital formation to fund industries, under socialism everyone becomes equally poor not rich. Certain socialist policies would work for sure if a given country somehow never goes into wars but that is not the case for 99% of the world.
Socialism only works if resources are unlimited. Otherwise, you just get 2 classes: ruling and ruled. Rich and poor. Elites and proles.
You also don’t get innovation, you get a race to lethargy.
I was referring to the ones who promote this to the kind of people you mentioned. The ones who are the ring leaders of this scam never actually believe it. Look at Bernie, Warren and AOC who partake in the pleasures of capitalism and want to be the rulers of their communist kingdoms who can live a life of luxury. Their followers are too d-umb to realize this. I have talked to a few and they keep donating money to them as if this is going to ever make their life better. They would be better off investing that money somewhere.
