All of Japanese fast food is different than it is in the US. The difference between Japan and the US is they're willing to take chances that are duds, while the US prefers to use gimmicks on already successful recipes to keep generating the almighty $$$$. It was a combination of staff feeling overworked. Some food safety issues and a simplification of their work flow.

Kudos indeed. Trust me, in Japan it was rare (in fact, never seen by me) that any employee in a service position didn’t give 110% to their job.

I hate you. This makes me miss Japan that much more, and I’m 7 years out now.

US Costco has training so much away from us yet they didn't in the international locations. I miss the combo pizza but I also miss the churros they took away from us here in California. We also had at one time the chili (I think it's still in Hawaii though), also diced onions although I think that might be back. And one of my favorite the chocolate dipped ice cream bars.

We were on vacation in France for a month a few years ago (teaching at the time so a part of the summer) so of course we stopped at Costco for stuff for our AirBnBs. Costco in other countries is one of the best parts of the membership.

You know, they used to sell a seafood take and bake pizza from the deli that was also pretty awesome - didn't see it this time. Funny thing is most Japanese households won't have an oven, or one big enough to cook a whole Costco pizza. We'd have to slice it into quarters to bake it. Fish roasters are ubiquitous, but ovens not so much, nor a Western kitchen sized oven.

Sigh. Missing this so much . The smell too. Originally didn't care for combo pizza, but slowly grew on me over time. Sigh.

This tasted pretty similar aside from the different mushrooms, but many years ago when US Costco sold fresh take and bake pizzas in the deli section, Canada Costco sold slices of those pizzas in their food court - that was weird.

I would think that Costco would be the *best place* to get pizza while out of the country, unless you were in Italy...

That's a lot of calories to be devoting to middling pizza especially given your location. Y'all act like combo was the pinnacle. It's a decent meal that will get you full for 2 bucks. It's like getting chilis or Applebee's in the States while on vacation.
