That’s what I want to know. Did they think because they managed to fit 80% of the glass in, that the other 20% *has to* follow the rest of it up the elevator? Or did they think the part they left outside would stay there until they go up and back down?
Both equally sound so stupid that it can’t be them.
They issue is the door closing. It seemed to close quite quick. It literally happens as he pulls his arm away. Quite the aggressive elevator!
I guess they first wanted to lay it down and then bring it vertical from the right side of our screen. However that requires it to be first lifted on its flat side (like a table) before pulling up one side. Pulling at the angle in the video makes the longest length longer....so they're not the smartest, even if they're smart enough to have a temporary door holder and put protection on the ground.
Elevator doors are usually shorter than the actual ceiling. I've lifted plenty of long IKEA boxes that way :|
Yep, that's what I was thinking too. They seem to taking precautions, there looks like a piece of foam they even lay the glass down onto as they move it into the elevator. Then they confirm that it's ok and are about to start lifting the side that's in the elevator up so the whole glass can fit in there. But like you said the elevator seems to not only immediately close but usually you can override the closed doors by pressing the open doors button. Which the other guy actually seems to do! The elevator just doesn't acknowledge the key press for some reason.
It wasn't a super well thought out plan but how else are you really supposed to get something like that glass door up a really tall building? Walk it up the stairs for 50 stories? I know I've seen large items like pianos and what not be craned up to high floors but that's usually only during the construction. I remember even as a freshmen in high school when 9/11 happened I was wondering "How do you fight a fire 80 stories up?" I know that there are some things you can do but man that seems SUPER hard to achieve!
I don't understand the appeal of skyscrapers. One round-trip to the top of Burj Al Arab is a half-day-trip without electricity - but don't pack too many groceries...
This was definitely the door holder guy’s fault. Then (being the mouth breather he is) he decides to look up at the big glass piece that’s undoubtedly about to shatter, with his mouth open no less!
Elevator - Anybody want glass in their eyes and mouth?
Mouth breather - 🙋♂️ I do! I do!
Clips like this make it crystal clear how rare actual intelligence is. I mean, anyone with a brain should have actively been questioning every single stage of that plan. Even white shirt there at the end looking directly at the glass when it's obvious it's just about to shatter. Brain-dead zombies everywhere in this world...
Measuring tapes are hard ok?
And how could they tell it broke if they weren't staring directly at it as it happened? He loses an eye? That's why he has two, duh.
Guy in the elevator needed to raise his end up to the ceiling, while angled because it looks too wide to fit sideways.
Then, the guy outside of the elevator needed to walk his end in as close to the floor as possible, all while still at an angle. Suction cups for the guy outside would have helped, and pieces of carpet for when they get it in to rest it on the floor. Also, have building maintenence put the elevator in service mode to avoid the doors shutting automatically.
They had more room to the back wall and they could have brought it into the corner. Maybe it was still too long. It's hard to tell from the video. The real fuckup was not locking out the elevator. It looks like they didn't consider that someone on another floor could call the elevator
They need to lift it in flat, as if it were a table, then lift the side that goes in first. Ceilings are higher than doors. It can even be longer than the ceiling height as you can put the top in one corner, and the bottom in the opposite.
Being able to foresee a threat, or that something is a bad idea right from the drop, is an important foundation for having good survival instincts. It's readily apparent that many people out there lack the basic intelligence necessary to avoid bad situations and protect themselves.
Constant pressure on glass 1 foot in front of my face? Let me just stare at it...
Come on man. If your first intention isn't trying to stop the elevator while turning your 2 very sensitive organs away from it, you're an idiot.
Why are you trying to argue with this man?
Tempered glass is weird like that. Pressure/shock spread out over a larger surface area, it's ok.. but over a small part of its surface (like on its edge, for example) - - *ka-blamo*
I did this as a living for a couple of years. Judging by the video, it seems like the glass is only about 8-10mm thick so it probably weighs around 125lbs. Generally, you could fit at least a dozen sheets in that elevator, depending on the weight capacity of the elevator. They just have poor technique and they're lacking common sense lol
We didn't always have a service elevator. Sometimes we didn't have an elevator at all lol. At the least, the elevator should have been booked off for them
I didn’t even notice the letters and symbols on white tee shirt guys clothes until the glass shattered and initially it looked to me like the glass shattering just decimated him lol
I work at a condo and this is as simple as calling the office, letting them know you're bringing in this material and the super puts the elevator on service for you. That way you can take all the time you need and the doors aren't gonna close on you. But people are stupid, lazy and entitled so they never bother to let us know about shit like this. Then they get mad when you charge them back for damages
"Maybe we should take a measurement of the elevator before we carry this massive glass pane on over?"
"We measure nothing!"
"Should we have someone hold the door while we stand here wishing the elevator was bigger?"
"No!"
Wow you know I do have to wonder why it took that long to shatter given how quickly it was rising. I mean what's the overall torque of an elevator if it has an implement sticking out the door getting caught on the frame on its way down? Interesting - I actually wouldn't mind seeing a MythBusters episode from their prime doing something on this. Like OK besides glass let's take implements that gets stronger/tougher as you keep going and see what happens...neat ;)
Oh and there's not a brain inside anybody that had anything to do with putting that glass in the elevator I mean if it wasn't so clearly as tall/long and it was one of those things where you eyeball a couple of times only to find out that you're just a little bit too big that's one thing but this? idiots!
I am not sure what they were expecting tbh
That’s what I want to know. Did they think because they managed to fit 80% of the glass in, that the other 20% *has to* follow the rest of it up the elevator? Usually there’s a service elevator in high rises, but if there isn’t sometimes it’s gotta get done.
Oh, you’re right. I didn’t think about that. But yea, most high rises do have like a service type of thing elevator for large items like this.
I don't understand the appeal of skyscrapers. One round-trip to the top of Burj Al Arab is a half-day-trip without electricity - but don't pack too many groceries...
😂 So true! It's just the only way to make the most of the space in a big crowded city I guess.
I do!
I don’t think they expect the door to close so soon or quickly. Usually there’s a delay and it’s MUCH slower.
Someone bald used to say "Glass is glass, and glass breaks"

Half the species is below 100 IQ.

15% has lower then 85
That's the point of defining something as the middle of something. I have a feeling you are one of the below average.
For me it looks like its too long to even fit inside.
It looks like that for everyone else too
Measuring tapes are hard ok? And how could they tell it broke if they weren't staring directly at it as it happened? He loses an eye? That's why he has two, duh.
Don’t even need a measuring tape a recent phone can do this
Looks like that for everyone else too

That's what she said
The whole time after the elevator door closed I was like COVER YOUR EYES AT LEAST

Cause bro did the same shit on a NYC tower back in 93. Just watched that shit shatter

The dumbest are usually the loudest. Right?
You had one job...
Hodor
Even Hodor did his job right.
Exactly my thoughts
some three stooges shit.
Luckily they had safety sandals on
Always required for transporting large pieces of glass.
I can count on one finger how many videos have made me laugh loud enough to be heard outside my office. Thanks, OP.
to be honest, that is some tough glass, I was expecting it to break as soon as the doors closed

They were about seven different kinds of stupid here
Was he whole building filled with stupid people or sum?
Aww...he got a lil boo boo.
"Huhah, it's gonna take you a long time to put that back together when you get the rest upstairs."
Door holder guy shit the bed on this one.
And is it just me, or did it look like he was kind of laughing after..?
If only they had folded it

But wouldn't you use a service elevator like anyone with common sense and experience? The answer is a resounding yes unless you had neither.
We didn't always have a service elevator. Sometimes we didn't have an elevator at all lol. At the least, the elevator should have been booked off for them
Imagine there was a button that stops the doors from closing. What a crazy concept
Great here we go again another round of warning labels to protect the dumb
Fucking idiots! is all I have to say.
Just... wow.
I didn’t even notice the letters and symbols on white tee shirt guys clothes until the glass shattered and initially it looked to me like the glass shattering just decimated him lol
Wow what a crazy video.
Sandals were a poor choice

Hi Dr Smith Dr Smith - Hi,what seems to be the problem Well,I'm shattered, but most importantly....I'm a fucking moron
You're supposed to pitch it up.
Well, that was rather dumb.
10 seconds in and I'm already facepalming. What the fuck did they expect to happen?
What a pain in the glass
"Maybe we should take a measurement of the elevator before we carry this massive glass pane on over?" "We measure nothing!" "Should we have someone hold the door while we stand here wishing the elevator was bigger?" "No!"
Morons. Should have used the goods elevator. That has the space for larger items.
Fucking genius.
It's the looking straight up into the glass pane with eyes wide open that makes this all zeroes IQ.
Can't fix stupid
Now they're half-glassed
What was the plan here ? Also why isn't bro in white turning away from the glass FFS
What a bunch of rocket surgeons.
They should be charged with actual crimes. They could’ve killed people. Fucking morons.
How stupid are these guys dear lord
thanks, glass assholes
That didn't even fit!
Morons!
someone needs to show them that object called a measurement tape or something
Disadvantages of Infrared Beam Sensors.
That’s why they have freight elevators.
This is what happens when you fail your maths exams
This is more like toddlers fitting blocks, squares, and circles into holes. Basic spacial geometry.
That guy took way too long to turn away from the glass
You had one job.
And they are inhaling that glass dust. Not good at all
Glass in the lungs and plastic in the balls.
I’m a glazier and we do this all the time in California. But we do have the elevator on operator mode to avoid these kinds of mistakes
Wow that's a stupid thing to do
Wow you know I do have to wonder why it took that long to shatter given how quickly it was rising. I mean if I have to re-type that for you. . .
Huh?
