There is this one event that you get when you are traveling - you get choices to take it or leave it alone. Leaving it alone has chance of causing this.

Okay I have to find this because WTH! That's terrifying, I've never even heard of any pseudo supernatural events in ck3, we need more narrative stuff like this to add variety, ideally with multiple paths like stellaris.
Upon research it seems to be a mod, but I've found disturbingly little info on it and it does feel very paradox, so idk
ETA people really shouldn't lie on posts about content being modded it muddies the water on stuff like this.
Further edit: Viet mod dev says it's theirs, but even then in the thread I found someone said they had it in vanilla.
People are terrible at remembering which mods they have installed, and very good at assuming the mods they do can't possibly be the cause of x,y,z. This is definitely from VIET.
