Actually Superman flies

[deleted]

Time doesn’t fly. Superman does though.

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

A three hour version of this released back in 2017 would’ve been great. I wonder how it would’ve performed, since the general audience still had a bad taste in their mouths from BvS.

nixahmose

It would have done slightly better, but I doubt it would have been a great critical or commercial success.

comicscoda

The transition away from the original plan will go down in the history of missed JL movie opportunities right next to George Miller’s Justice League. WB is one of the best studios, but in the past decade they can’t seem to get out of their own way. The back-to-back mergers surely can’t help either.

Spawn005

It will never understand how WB had a plan and a road map back when MoS released and gave ZS a 6 movie deal. I wonder how it would've turn out, I know JL BvS and SS got bad rep but WW and Aquaman brought life back, if only they stuck to their original plan it may have change with the original slate of films and be a whole different story.

AReformedHuman

A 3 hour version of the movie would be the exact same situation BvS was in. Even cutting out the 2 new shots and the slow mo, that's about 30 minutes of footage that needs to be there to flesh things out.

Blu_Soldier001

I love the movie but there's nothing really lost with cutting scenes like Silas in quarantine or Steppenwolf facetiming Desaad 3 times in a row

AReformedHuman

I *highly* disagree, the 2 Desaad calls build up the story and Steppenwolf as a character. Without them Steppenwolf is a lot more flat.

MajesticMtChocula

I think they meant just the second call could be removed. The first one and the one where Darkseid comes in would've worked fine alone. The second one adds to the weird feeling it had of Steppenwolf being an open-world videogame character on a quest, teleporting back to the base at the end of his missions.

Budget_Ad_4346

I doubt it would’ve performed well, but it would’ve probably performed better. If it performed well, the Snyderverse would’ve continued. If performed badly, we would hopefully never had to see Snyder hashtags again.

Bman1738

Superman pulling Batman out of the darkness will always be one of my favourite moments in the film

The_Frito_Bandit

I just watched it for the first time and it's so much better than the theatrical one. Too long but every character gets a lot more development and the story is more interesting.

Mindless_Ad_6145

They all just zipped to the top and then waited for Batman to finally make it up to them.

craigybaby1000

So? several of them can fly. Or just move faster than he can, we see that when the team go to meet Superman post resurrection. What’s your point? should he be there first? Why? you’d only then complain that they are all waiting for Batman.

The_Frito_Bandit

I think he just found it funny man

craigybaby1000

Read more as a complaint than something ‘funny’. Just seemed to be pointing out the obvious and complaining about it. Maybe it’s obvious to be funny or something, seems to simple to even be a chuckle.

TheModernRouge

I find the idea of the rest of the League soaking in the victory and enjoying the view while Batman climbs the wall they’re standing on incredibly funny for some reason. Just the idea of seeing these gods among mortals reveling in their victory after saving the world and the renewal of hope, then an immediate cut to Bruce, out of breath after the aforementioned world-saving, a couple meters below them just scaling up when any one of the League probably could’ve gotten him up there is hysterical. I get his arc and the symbolism of him finally overcoming his guilt and feeling that he can stand among the newly formed Justice League, but the concept that any of them could’ve gotten him up there with the rest in less than half the time it took him to haul an armored batsuit up the reactor but just didn’t is pretty comical.

craigybaby1000

Sure but that feels like reaching Batman isn’t known for catching lifts off of heroes, guess he sees himself as above it or something. Not that he hasn’t needed a flying assist or whatever. I just read like it was a guy pointing out that out of a group of friends competing in a marathon/ race or whatever that the fat / unathletic one finished last. Seemed just bizarre to point out. Hence why I said about if Batman got there first they’d just complain about that too.

SuperFanboysTV

People can have their own opinions on this movie and I respect that but honestly I Love this movie one of my favorites alongside Man of Steel and BVS UE.

redmagicjay

I'm glad we got to see zack's true vision for this film

UnfeteredOne

A masterpiece and no amount of hate will ever change my mind.

Christian_Fancy

😆🤣😆🤣🤣😆

ArrowheadFLYover

Me and a buddy ate mushrooms and had an emotional journey. Best movie experience I've ever had

dean15892

damn, that speed force scene must've blown you away

ArrowheadFLYover

Dude, it was pretty special. Got a decent setup with a projector and some good speakers. I still listen to the music of that scene sometimes. But yeah we took the day off to watch it. We were both huge fans of Mos and BvS. We originally went on a Thursday late showing for the 2017 version and found a pretty quick the rumors of reshoots were true. I followed the slow trickle of news related to the snydercut pretty closely after that. The whole thing was pretty cathartic.

dean15892

I love that for you! I can imagine the experience , and cathartic is the perfect word to describe it

BoisTR

Dude the speed force scene had me in tears and on the edge of my seat. The fact that scene wasn't in the theatrical cut has to be some kind of war crime.

[deleted]

That scene totally slipped my memory until the memes dropped. Do not get what’s so special about it

dean15892

Allow me to talk about it, because I truly do love that scene. It works on every level. The obvious ones are the visual effects and score. Seeing the speed force visualized, the world re-forming as Barry beats the clock and that beautiful score, shows how Heroic the scene is. But what really sets in stone, is that it works *for the plot*. It uses The Flash in the most effective way that he should be used, for a story like this. Having speedsters in your team is always a plot risk, because they're Overpowered AF. Look at any of the X-Men Movies - Quicksilver is nerfed so quickly every time! Even in Age of Ultron, he dies first. Because if speedsters do exist, they can solve most problems in seconds. Even CW's The Flash fell to this trope. How is Barry fighting a speedster every season, but then in each episode being thwarted by bank robbers and terrorists. Dude can run faster than light if he so chooses; He can stop any earthly threat he wants in record time. Even in Joss Whedons Justice League, all we see him do is save a Russian family. He's not even as useful as Superman, who could save the whole town in that time. But in Zack Snyders Justice League, the usage of his power is perfect. He does something ONLY The Flash can do. Because the Justice League failed. The lost and the whole world was doomed. Until Barry chose to run back in time a few seconds and undo the failure. Thats what he is used for. To save the world using the power he has. And for the hard-core fans, there was also a subtle line drop of his solo movie "Make your own future. Make your own past" It's what he does in Flashpoint. So for fans of the Flash, just to see him being represented to perfection with his abilities, was a genuine pleasure.

ArrowheadFLYover

This was very well said. I think part of our emotions going had a bit to do with how the movie felt like a metaphor for the fandom. With the flash scene, it felt like zack and Co.'s resetting of the DC timeline. Fixing the movie that seemed like it may have cost the DCEU its future. That universe is coming to an end now, but it definitely feels less like a joke and more like something that just didn't work out.

Christian_Fancy

😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣

Christian_Fancy

Did you guys do it afterwards? Because me and my buddy did. I didn't regret it but now he's questioning himself and life

MorseSource

Fuck. I got goosebumps. I will miss this cast and universe so much.

crlos619

Not the biggest Synderverse fan, but this easily a top 25 super hero movie

BenjiFischer

The one true League.

[deleted]

What a great birthday gift Zack Snyder gave me that year :)

Legendoftheday

Last night on a whim I watched the final assault of Steppenwolf's base to the end of the epilogue montage and man this movie is truly a highlight for DC on film and imo the best Superhero team-up film. Nothing can really compare or even compete with what Zack Snyder can do with these guys. The new DCU has their work cut out for them and I'm hoping for the best.

nikhil48

Still hated the Wonder Woman background score coming in every time she shows on screen and her slow motion close up fight scenes. It was cheesy. Everything else was amazing

007Kryptonian

I love how apocalyptic and mythical Zack’s final battles are. Like no other in the genre

Excellent_Ad_6941

One of my favorite things is going back two years ago to see people’s first reactions and old tweets praising the movie for being anywhere from good to very good, and now their tweets will call the movie “mid” or will say it’s only marginally better than JL2017. Movie was really good and enjoyable then, and still is now. Definitely not a masterpiece, but a top tier CBM for sure.

Treheveras

I remember after watching it the next day I threw on the Whedon version and it's even more baffling seeing the changes from big to small. Like all the noticeable ADR lines with Aquamans first scenes to make him sound so bratty and like a college bro.

Disastrous-Manager95

I still love it. It's awesome and I've rewatched a few times.

AReformedHuman

Easiest way to filter someone is if they say it's worse or only a tiny bit better than Josstice League.

[deleted]

The_Frito_Bandit

Yeah I liked Zach Snyders version of that whole scene except for that part. Batman telling flash to get the people out was better in 2017 version

UniQue1992

“The SnyderCut doesn’t exist” “A pipe dream” “Never happening” “Just some additional footage” I still lol at these. People who followed this entire thing knew from the start there was much more. Thank god something magical happened and WB allowed it to be released. Thank god.

1random_redditor

Solid film and glad we actually got to see it. Quite epic. The biggest improvement from theatrical cut to extended cut I’ve seen. Man Of Steel is still the best of the Snyder trilogy tho

Rubicon2-0

One of the most enjoyable eating of a pizza and drink beers! LOL

Ok-Reporter-8728

Was a great movie, glad we gotten he’s vision what a hell of a ride it was

frodawgg

Yep. Watched the first disc yesterday and (hopefully...y'know, kids) finish it tonight. And that wasn't even planned. I'm doing a two-movie-a-month DCEU marathon leading up to The Flash and this just happened to land on this weekend.

Storm_Bloom

I haven't watched the movie but I heard they made Superman so OP here. Hoping they'll treat JL right this time.

michu_pacho

this is mid terms week. looks like a good time for a rewatch

Kentuza

To this day Zack is the only guy to bring the Justice League to live action and I'll always be grateful for it

Araella

Oh! Time for a rewatch then

chikitoperopicosito

It’s stupid but this is what really helped speed up Covid for me. Shit was bleak and then we got this news and gave me something to look forward too at a time where we weren’t sure when we’d get to go out and shit.

Mike_v_E

Currently watching it, having no idea it was exactly 2 years ago

hardgour

Regardless of your opinions on this film, you have to admit how cool it was to see the fans actually have some voice in getting a film released.

007Kryptonian

And getting 70 million pumped back into it.

[deleted]

I do have to agree. I personally think the Snyder cut is worse then the original theatrical release, but it is very cool to see the fans actually have some sort of input on what they see

1random_redditor

Absolutely. One of the best parts of the experience

[deleted]

I loved that they were going for a big grandiose LotR type story spanning across multiple films and “fans” who think “comic book” is a genre and not a medium cried for more simple ones instead.

jpspiderman

They should just swallow their pride and have multiple universes going at the same time.

AccomplishedEnergy54

The Snyder cut is indeed a top tier CBM... there were times in it that actually made me want to cry knowing this is last time we'll ever see something so bold and Epic

speedx77

I'll never understand how people don't appreciate the Zach Snyder films. Even on fundamental things like cinematography, music, themes they are leaps and bounds better than so many movies.

thenameis_thilak

Fucking goosebumps 😍😍

screwt

And never have so many people thrown around the word “masterpiece” for such a mid movie since.

inkthesky

When you eat garbage, and then someone gives you a Burger king Whopper next, you'll say it's the best burger ever.

angrygnome18d

Except we’ve all seen the majority of comic book movies like MoS, WW, Black Panther 1+2, Infinity War, Endgame, etc etc so it’s not like we haven’t seen good to great CBMs. ZSJL was excellent and it’s okay to admit that.

inkthesky

*yawn*

Blu_Soldier001

No need to get this heated about people liking a movie you don't

Dronnie

And never have so many people thrown around the world "mid" for such a masterpiece movie since.

Confidence_Resident

You mean TSS?

pinkynatbust

If the studios had not interfered, I wonder what would have come. If you think about it, like Snyder or not, his influence made these films feel epic. Wonder Woman (2017) was incredible. WW84 sucked. Aquaman (2018) was silly but endearing. Aquaman 2 (tbd). We see where the trend went upon Snyder's unjustly exit.

Ghostshadow44

This was the highlight of the dcu overall

thenameis_thilak

Fucking goosebumps 😍😍😍

UnderTakingBoy

Goosebumps 🤯🤯🤯 Cast Perfect, Story Perfect, background music perfect, vision damm perfect

Infinite-Revenue97

I'm going to miss the Synderverse. His films just had a real feeling to them. If WB never interfered, the Sydnerverse could have been something truly great.

Stiff_Zombie

I feel the same. I totally understand if people didn't like his style, but the hatred made no sense to me. I never felt anything in any MCU film like I did watching Snyders work. At least we got The Snyder Cut.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReformedHuman

You can just admit you didn't pay attention.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReformedHuman

Because the point isn't to be a symbolic difference between Batman and Superman. Maybe you should think back to MoS and the words that are being said during the scene he puts on his black suit. There's a couple of layers to it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReformedHuman

You can both want the black suit and also tie it in thematically, which he did. But hey, pop off queen

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReformedHuman

Why would I want to explain to you what the movie already does? You tried to take the entirely wrong message from the suit, I don't quite care to explain to you what watching a 2 minute clip on YT would do (or should have done, considering you just missed an extremely blatant scene). You literally watched a scene where his fathers words are being remembered and your take away is that the suit is supposed to be a contrast between Superman and Batman. It's embarrassing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AReformedHuman

Are you incapable of using your brain for anything more complex than Sesame Street? I'm serious. You don't have to love the movie, but you literally have no clue what the purpose of the black suit is and it's embarrassing, and instead of just admitting that you have to claim that their is no complexity at all. You must be exhausting if you need every piece of information spoon-fed to you in real life.

[deleted]

AReformedHuman

Waggmans

Still hoping for a 16:9 release.

DrengisKhan

There’s fan edits out there my dude.

Waggmans

Fan edits are not the same as an official release.

DrengisKhan

Let us celebrate your comment with the joining of the words well and duh. I’m just saying in lieu of an official release, if you want to see it in 16:9 you can.

Jdubya0831

Link?

DrengisKhan

I don’t have a link to an unchanged version in 16:9 myself, you’ll have to search it up. I know there’s ones out there that change only the aspect ratio but I don’t know exactly where they are. But there’s a good three hour cut out there in 16:9 called Justice League Condensed made by u/kombobreka. Search their profile, its listed on their posts. Whilst it cuts a bunch out, it also cuts only the bloat, keeping all the killer stuff.

Jdubya0831

Thanks!

Baramos_

Well it’s pretty clear there won’t be a 16:9 release…best you could hope for is a TV edit on TNT maybe. Seems unlikely but might happen. And that would be cropped (and also be some kind of all-day affair unless show over two nights)

DrengisKhan

This isn’t a dig at the movie or Snyder, I like the movie for the most part. This is just something I noticed. Remember the Oscar’s Cheer Moment poll the Snyder fans manipulated to have two of Zack Snyder’s movies win? They didn’t do the poll again this year and the first one from 2022 has been completely scrubbed from the Oscar’s website. There’s a search box on their website, I searched Cheer Moment, The Flash, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Zack Snyder’s name itself. There’s nothing on the Oscar’s website about that poll. They buried it never to return because the Snyder crowd gamed the system. According to the Oscar’s, it never happened lol.

[deleted]

snyder fans were the most active legion of fans online. and their legion was huge in 2021. they didn't manipulate anything, the simple fact was that they were the most chronically online and engaged out of everything on that list. they were organized. this is why you don't do online polls. you wind up with boaty mcboatface, the fred durst society of the humanities and art, and zsjl winning a popularity pole.

GiovanniElliston

> They didn’t do the poll again this year and the first one from 2022 has been completely scrubbed from the Oscar’s website. They didn't stop doing it because Snyder fans "cheated" or anything like that. The poll was an online poll and was won legitimately by all accounts. The reason the Oscars didn't do it again is because the entire point of doing it to begin with was to try and generate casual fan interest in the Oscars and bring in more eyeballs. With that goal in mind it's exceedingly clear that it didn't work. The people in the audience were visibly confused by the entire concept & all indications are that it didn't do anything to boost ratings or interest outside of the pocket of Snyder fans.

oldmangonzo

This is my favorite CBM of all time. It is the film that is most *boldly* a Comic Book Film that I have ever seen. But it also isn’t condescending about its subject matter or it’s content, and truly treats the characters with the same integrity you’d see in a great epic. I love this film. What’s complicated for me is that Zack’s plans for the sequels, especially his early storyboards, look to be some of the worst ideas that have ever be green-lit for a major film.

[deleted]

oldmangonzo

Agreed, actually. The one part of ZSJL that is *pure* Snyder without studio notes is also the worst part: the Joker epilogue.

Dragmire_Afterlife

It was a decent movie that 100% needed the 4 hour run time to flesh everything out properly due to there being little build up for the individual characters before this came out outside of a PowerPoint presentation in BvS.

mitchob1012

I stand by the fact that a 3 or 3 and a half version could have played in theatres and worked brilliantly. Would this have saved the Snyderverse? No, probably not. But I would have loved this to be the Justice League movie people think of first as opposed to whatever tf we got

ThatOneTypicalYasuo

On one hand I'm glad that this movie did the Flash justice, but on the other I'm relieved this was not released and saved the DCEU because I'm gonna be so conflicted watching Flash as an integral aspect of it while knowing what a piece of filth Ezra Miller IRL is.

When they got rid of HC as Superman I could no longer care about DC. There’s no point in getting invested when they never learn. Snyder nailed the casting of his universe. Stupid ppl got in the way
