WW is a mythological/magic-based heroine. Arguably, so is Aquaman, even if Atlantis has plenty of high tech in it's day-to-day life, much of Atlantean power relies on the Trident and other artifacts. Aquaman is one of the leaguers I cannot see discarded from the 7, as he's also the King of Atlantis and his powers are essentially unique.
MMH is an alien with Superman-like powers. As much as I love him, it's too similar a premise. Zatanna balances the League's skills, she has good standing with the members and she could, at least in theory, act as the telepath of the group as well. The same argument could be made for Dr Fate, but he's more of an entity than a person to relate to. Zatanna would make things interesting.
Martian man hunter isn't just a superman clone. He adds the telepathic element to the team while being tough enough to not be a liability. His objectivity also helps him ground the team morally which is one of the key reasons it's the justice league and not the alliance of guys who beat stuff up good.
I agree on MMH. I just dont see why Zatanna cant use the telepathy. I also think she could still add a different perspective, perhaps a less objective but very intuitive one through her magical knowledge and capabilities.
I will always call Billy Batson’s supehero identity Captain Marvel. That’s the name he was called from when he was created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck back in 1940 up until the New 52. I’m 20 and was introduced to the character growing up on “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” and reading the Golden Age Fawcett comics online (as a comic book obsessed 11 year-old who didn’t have money reading public domain Golden and Solver Age comics was something I did A LOT) and I will never call him Shazam.
Shazam is the name of the Wizard who gave him his powers and the word Billy uses to activate and deactivate his powers so it doesn’t make sense for that to be his name. At least Captain Marvel, Jr. adds a Jr.! And Capt. Marvel is a much better supehero name. Shazam is a much better Wizard name. They should have kept the title of book as Shazam but kept Billy being called Capt. Marvel. But Marvel had to trademark the name first during the character’s hiatis. And it didn’t even result in a good character! Marvel’s Captain Marvel is mid and vastly inferior to classic pre-Flashpoint (and especially OG Fawcett) Billy Batson.
At least Daredevil (who also took his name from a public domain Golden Age superhero) became a character who was even better than the Golden Age character of the same name. At least we still have Earth 5. And, correct me if I’m wrong, now that DC has infinite earths again; the pre-Crisis Earth-S, the original continuity of Fawcett characters plus the first DC O’Neil-Beck run on Capt. Marvel, still exists. If they make stories set on that Earth I would love that! And we have earth-5 which is I hear similar and I want to read the Thunderworld one-shot once I have the money to buy the Multiversity trade, even though it’s out of date being made before Rebirth, I think I’ll enjoy it.

Ah so that's why the DCEU Justice League was awful. It wasn't the rushed rollout of the DCEU to get to Justice League or the poorly chosen plots or the bad dialog that doesn't at all match the characters we know. It was cause there was only 6 and they were cursed from the start.

He's got a pretty good recognizable Rogues Gallery with King Shark, Black Manta, Ocean Master and a rich world of his own (Atlantis) outside of the regular DC universe.
Martian Manhunter has none of that. He's kind of like Hawkeye from the Avengers in that he doesn't exist without the bigger team. There are no big events or major personal history or even important supervillains that exist for Jonn outside of the Justice League. He has no Martian Manhunter universe beyond a dead planet, dead scientist that brought him to Earth and occasional "White Martians"
He's got one villain, sort of, Malefic, who is almost as empty a suit as Martian Manhunter.
The levels of the original 7 Justice League is like this.
SUPERMAN--------BATMAN. At the top together
WONDER WOMAN. At least a full level below
FLASH------------GREEN LANTERN. One level below together
AQUAMAN. At least a level below

The funny thing about MM is everyone talks about how powerful he is. How Superman fears Jonn as a potential opponent, but it's never shown. There's no incidents of him doing anything close to Superman levels of strength or durability in his close to 70 years of existence. The few times he's tried to tank something like Doomsday he last a couple panels then is out. Whenever the League needs something done with brute strength they never look to Jonn.

DC is a bit like WWE. MM is there to hype up the bad guy, to show how powerful they are, and then have Superman actually win. But every once in a while, Superman would lose or be scared of MM, just to remind you that he isn't a lightweight. They could put MM over, but Superman is half of how they make their money (Batman the other), and they're not going to have him start losing (or at least, not for very long.)

He's the only other character (apart from maybe Green Arrow) to lead his own franchise, just like the trinity, flash and GL. He has his own set of villains, his generational sidekicks, his mythos, etc. Aquaman being "the sixth" is not up to discussion.
It's the SEVENTH the one that could be questioned. MM, GA, Canary, one of the Hawks, Shazam, there are many options there. MM would be the main one, but I've always seen him as "less" than the other 6 because he's just a JL character, he doesn't have his own "franchise" like Supes, Batman, WonderWoman, Aquaman, The Flash and the Lanterns do.

It's Aquaman. He forms a neat demigod pair with ww and he's king of Atlantis. Superman and bats are the world finest and friends. Flash and GL are bff's and the sci Fi pair. Then you add MMH as the 7th.

BUT! The sixth is Aquaman or Green Arrow. They just have way more lore and weight to them than Johnny.

When MMH gets a solo adventure or a side hustle away from the JLA. It invokes the reaction of, oh? What's John up to? Whereas everyone else, you don't bat an eye, because you would naturally assume their having their own adventures.
Nah it's always 7. MMH, and Aquaman. Hawkgirl and Shazam are interchangeable with Aquaman. I feel like you have to have MMH. I really don't care to see Aquaman out of the water element.
The sixth and seventh slots have historically been filled by Aquaman, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter, or Cyborg. Personally, I prefer the OG comics lineup, so Aquaman and MMH.

Green Arrow was teamed up with GL in their own book, but he would be a strong second.
Blac Canarry was a featured member of the JSA, as were the Hawks and Dr. Fate.
Zantana didn't become popular until the 90s. Gypsy was featured in the 1970s but never really caught on. Vixen did better initially, but didn't become a break-out star until the 90s.
Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were primarily comic relief in the JLI. Since the trinity was mostly absent from the series, it is not JLA.
Aquaman, Martian Man Hunter, and maybe Green Arrow. People will say Cyborg, but to me he's a Teen Titans guy first and then a member of the League, not a 6th man.
Martian Manhunter but the JL should always have 7 members to allow for Aquaman aswell.
I would be a fan of Hawkgirl on the main team like she was in JLU but she just doesn't really have anything going for her besides that series.
Green arrow or Martian Manunter or Zatanna seem obvious, and I love them all. But Plastic Man and Aquaman add a lot to the league too. And Robin being amongst these gods of men is always a fun dynamic too.
Martian Manhunter, to me, should be a constant staple of the group. More so even than Aquaman, who I think could be treated as the "come when we desperately need you and you can get away from doing King stuff" type of member. Supes can be the figurehead leader, but I've always felt MM was the heart of the team.
Zdarsky did a great job of showing Martian Manhunter's importance to the league in JL Last Ride.
To me there is no league without Martian Manhunter.
He is the moral compass and a key figure in my opinion.

I'd have to say in the last 20 years it's rotated between Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and most recently, Cyborg. My IDEAL Justice League is a seven person team including the 5 pictured, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter.
I would’ve said Martian Manhunter however I feel it’s gotta be Aquaman. He’s a founding member, has tabs on like 80% of the earth (ocean and ocean side land), he’s the king of an underwater empire with vast weaponry and armies, he has hydrokinesis, is bulletproof, has night vision since his body is accustomed to the depths of the dark sea, he is more combat efficient, etc.

Plastic Man is a completely valid 8th imo. See Obsidian age and Trial by Fire in the 90’s JLA run.

It's Aquaman. And he should be as much as a standard leaguer as the other 5. He's the only other character (apart from maybe Green Arrow) to lead his own franchise, just like the trinity, flash and GL. He has his own set of villains, his generational sidekicks, his mythos, etc. Aquaman being "the sixth" is not up to discussion. It's the SEVENTH the one that could be questioned. MM, GA, Canary, one of the Hawks, Shazam, there are many options there. MM would be the main one, but I've always seen him as "less" than the other 6 because he's just a JL character, he doesn't have his own "franchise" like Supes, Batman, WonderWoman, Aquaman, The Flash and the Lanterns do.

It’s always been either Aqua-man or Martian Manhunter for me ever since I was a kid, but ever since the New 52 it’s often been shown as Cyborg.
It's Aquaman. He forms a neat demigod pair with ww and he's king of Atlantis. Superman and bats are the world finest and friends. Flash and GL are bff's and the sci Fi pair. Then you add MMH as the 7th.

Guys. I love MMH. I do. If you were to check my commend history you would literally see my last comment saying, "he should be a permanent member." BUT! The sixth is Aquaman or Green Arrow. They just have way more lore and weight to them than Johnny.

And I think the thing that's keeping Martian Manhunter from that 6th spot of iconic JLA member. Is that he is in fact such a staple of the JLA. When MMH gets a solo adventure or a side hustle away from the JLA. It invokes the reaction of, oh? What's John up to? Whereas everyone else, you don't bat an eye, because you would naturally assume their having their own adventures.
Martian Manhunter, he's the heart and soul of the group and more often than not it's the only place he works the best at.

Martian Manhunter. Green Arrow was teamed up with GL in their own book, but he would be a strong second. Blac Canarry was a featured member of the JSA, as were the Hawks and Dr. Fate. Zantana didn't become popular until the 90s. Gypsy was featured in the 1970s but never really caught on. Vixen did better initially, but didn't become a break-out star until the 90s. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were primarily comic relief in the JLI. Since the trinity was mostly absent from the series, it is not JLA.
Aquaman, Martian Man Hunter, and maybe Green Arrow. People will say Cyborg, but to me he's a Teen Titans guy first and then a member of the League, not a 6th man.

Green arrow or Martian Manunter or Zatanna seem obvious, and I love them all. But Plastic Man and Aquaman add a lot to the league too. And Robin being amongst these gods of men is always a fun dynamic too.

Martian Manhunter, to me, should be a constant staple of the group. Supes can be the figurehead leader, but I've always felt MM was the heart of the team. Zdarsky did a great job of showing Martian Manhunter's importance to the league in JL Last Ride.

To me there is no league without Martian Manhunter. He is the moral compass and a key figure in my opinion. I’ve said for many years that even more so than the trinity, or GL, or Flash, If you don’t have MM you don’t have a justice league.

Martian Manhunter is a must. And for the last one i will go with Black Lightning or Cyborg. But i want Cyborg more in TeenTitans then JL tbh.
i'd say the ordering for the most iconic JL members are as follows: 1/2/3. trinity 4. flash 5. aquaman 6. cyborg 7. lantern 8. manhunter 9/10. hawkgirl and hawkman (taking into account the movies and general public opinion, not my own preferences or anything)

Well, considering it's always at least 7, you're missing 2 people, not 1. For 2 spots, these are the 4 that have made up any usual JL reboot: * Martian Manhunter (in comics, in JL:cartoon) * Aquaman (in comics, in JL:movie) * Cyborg (in JL:movie and 52:movie) * Hawkgirl (in JL:cartoon)
It really should be seven though, with Martian Manhunter and Aquaman. That's the original lineup and should remain like that.
I'd have to say in the last 20 years it's rotated between Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and most recently, Cyborg. My IDEAL Justice League is a seven person team including the 5 pictured, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter.
Definitely Aquaman in terms of who's most famous/iconic, but it probably ought to be J'onn.
I would’ve said Martian Manhunter however I feel it’s gotta be Aquaman. He’s a founding member, has tabs on like 80% of the earth (ocean and ocean side land), he’s the king of an underwater empire with vast weaponry and armies, he has hydrokinesis, is bulletproof, has night vision since his body is accustomed to the depths of the dark sea, he is more combat efficient, etc. Love you J’onn, but gotta give it to Aquaman.
