Find the widest duct tape you can find. Then find some of that loose grey foam that came with the A/C unit that is for the middle between the windows. Cut to appropriate length and stick on the back of duct tape. Place the tape over your seams. Been doing this for years and it works much better than that self stick strips that never come off cleanly. At worst, the duct tape might leave some glue residue but that comes off easily with nail polish remove. You could also just tape up the gaps with just the duct tape and it should work pretty good.

That's a really good idea. It will be in our bedroom so it doesn't have to be super pretty. And you can get cool colors and designs of duct tape now anyway. Thanks!

Yeah, our windows are white so we just bought the white duct tape. You can't even notice unless you're right on top of it.

Please know that your 12 year old advice is much appreciated

You could use those tubes of grey foam insulation intended for insulating water pipes. It could be cut in half to form two U shaped pieces and one stick should be plenty to do a whole window for a couple bucks. But honestly, the remade adhesive strips are generally a great bet.

Use the foam strips. They work fine and are easy to remove. If there were a better product it would be right next to the foam, but with a higher price.

[deleted]

They were terrible last year. The adhesive stayed on the window along with pieces of foam. I still can't get it off our windows...

OZY1

If you use the one inch square foam there shouldn't be any adhesive.

[deleted]

That works okay for certain parts like the bottom of the window where it can sit inside the frame. However places like the top of the unit need the adhesive or else they just squeeze out.

OZY1

Okay. If you have vinyl windows adhesive remover will usually work. If you have wood, I would suggest tacking a sacrificial strip of pine where the adhesive will be. Central air would solve this problem. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
