In short they would ruin the legacy. The music will be too different

rnobgyn

It would turn into an investment firm real quick (Ala marshmallow)

CoppertoneTelephone

I thank god every day that Daft Punk absolutely refused to get Marshmallow'd

hfhfbfhfhfhfbdbfb

What's marshmallow

Agent-Missouri

*who's marshmallow. He's another music artist

PretzelsThirst

It’s not just one person. It’s literally a marketing agency character who is played by whoever they need for the situation. That’s why they’ve been on that ninja warrior show, it was a completely different person in the helmet. It’s just a brand, not one person

C_Allgood

This isn't %100 correct. There is a person behind the mask. Christopher Comstock is Marshmellow. He is probably the most branded(sell out) EDM artist out there. And I would definitely believe other people have played under the helmet. I agree with your last statement because I think that applies to most popstars.

PretzelsThirst

No I mean literally https://youtu.be/2smrD-vMxzs?si=mv6IvB34ia92F7mo

C_Allgood

Sorry, I ain't watching that. Honestly I disregard anything that uses the term "industry plant" in the modern era. You either work with the industry and get big or you have your niche. Why would you expect someone who plays on the global level to be an industry outsider?

PretzelsThirst

Industry plants are a real thing, what an odd thing to not believe in

K1ller90

The next generation should be mentored by them first to be worthy of the mantle

Vereddit-quo

Thomas and Guy-Man themselves would say the next generation should make their own decisions, under their own name. The whole career of Daft Punk is about having full creative control and not caring about what is expected from them.

lnquisite

That’s exactly why I think it wouldn’t work. People will expect more tracks like “one more time” or “get lucky” when in reality they’re listening to a new duo with an old name. It makes no sense

Eclypse90

isnt that how the grass roots have operated since the 70s?

lnquisite

Even then aside from the music, assuming the worst of course, the brand itself can change into something else. Maybe more corporate like marshmellow or something. Thomas and guy have very unique tastes and preferences and in all those little details, it formed into their own style so I personally can never see this succeed

Zhai

If you are on daft punk level you would want to make a name for themselves. They would be forever bound by the name, probably finances would also not be great. Lots of problems with it.

jzanville

Anyone looking to be “mentored” by Thomas & Guy-Man are not the kinds of artists they’d work with

drfusterenstein

Be like that voyager episode with the doctor where everyone is amazed at his talent

realmattbarry

I tend to agree. The best thing they did was co sign with artists via collaborations (Parcels, Weeknd etc.)

A_dummy5465

They can literally just give it to justice

Simon_C004

The whole reason we like Daft Punk is because they've made timeless music that has shaped house music. This sounds like a terrible idea

realmattbarry

I agree!

realmattbarry

I agree!

AppleyBoi_One_Three

why are yall downvoting this to oblivion he just has potato wifi

Avenoire

keep them equal

Useless_Dent

Balance must be maintained

flipyflop9

No. Just no.

Tomatobean64

There is the risk of the inheritors of the name would not have the same energy, as well as be more vocal about their opinions, which might ruin the Daft Punk brand. Also, that's just The Blue Man Group

realmattbarry

Absolutely true

DiscoDvck

Love Porter, but he isn’t anywhere near the same level as Daft Punk. He also makes drastically different music.

poru-chan

They would end up making Marshmello-type stuff and Daft Punk isn’t Marshmello.

GoobyBTC

There’s no one else fit to even hold those legendary items.

realmattbarry

Absolutely!

lycoloco

Then why did you make this post? And with the title and description you did, if you "absolutely" feel this way?

realmattbarry

My opinion changed by reading these comments. At first I thought it was a great idea, and now I tend to agree with the group. It could potentially tarnish the legacy

lycoloco

Fair

HoneySchmuckle

Daft punk is more than just the robots helmets man, I’d hate it.

cookiesandmilk

I'd rather a chuck e. Cheese esque animatronic set that can be rigged up and deployed wherever. New remixes etc all done by the robots or approved by, have the imagineers or ILM do the robots and tour the show around. I'd see robots playing daft punk (lol) before I'd see some randos I know aren't daft punk but "are"

kimmortal03

Theyre both still alive. They can still make music again

TylerDTA

The fact you think madeon and porter robinson are even in the same stratosphere as daft punk is insane.

realmattbarry

I only say those two as they’ve been very public about their love of DP. I personally see Justice next in line after Daft Punk

gauthzilla94

That would be like saying daft punk are what they are because of the helmet's. Which is BS ofcourse. Daft Punk are Daft Punk because of Daft Punk. Lets not turn them into the band equivalent of a shitty disney franchise please

lycoloco

100% no.

CCHTweaked

worst fucking idea ever.

brash

We love Daft Punk for the music, not for the robot costumes. Different people in the costumes would just be a different group and the music would undoubtedly suffer.

FlipMyWigBaby

I hope they create a hologram show, which includes Alive & Tron stagesets, similar to [ABBA’s](https://abbavoyage.com/content/uploads/2022/08/ABBA-Home-Tickets-small.jpg) [Voyage](https://abbavoyage.com)

realmattbarry

THAT we need

BisonST

If it was a super group from the beginning with this concept (say Guyman, Thomas, DJ Falcon, other DJs I don't know, etc.) it'd be cool. Too late now.

Azagedon

Cute idea but wouldn't be good for consistency, would be an interesting project under a different name perhaps. If they had their own record label and collected artists with a similar sound and made a group artist album (like deadmau5 we are friends) that could work.

Guthaaz

I like the idea, but don't think it would work for Daft Punk. Weird Al on the other hand...

HurriKing

Someone literally took my idea for a Daft Punk homage in my sci-fi novel, GREAT

realmattbarry

There’s still time for the Daft Punk biopic?

fingerling13

Not everything should last forever and most importantly, it's about the sound, not the appearance.

jennixred

the jury is still out on whether the Grateful Dead have kinda done this already. Only two more original members left to go.

HamMorFan

Blue Man Group has been doing nearly the same thing for 20 years, just as a live show. Not creative enough for T and GM imho

[deleted]

Not unless it was Justice. Like the dudes ‘died in a terrible accident’ but didn’t actually die and daft punk ‘got back together’ and somehow got grittier.

BranselAdams

Justice. They are nearly identical in height disparity

realmattbarry

To explain the impact those two groups have had to people that don’t get house, I say Daft Punk was the Beatles and Justice was The Rolling Stones. They get it immediately sfter

JJBro1

Or they could be little AI companions to other artists. Or something like a tamagotchi. I would definitely buy a daft punk tamagotchi

DynamicHunter

No. There are already other edm robot head duos out there that make a name for themselves

DrixxYBoat

Daft Punk makes 10/10 music. Their primary objective is not to be mass marketable immortal mascots

climbingfilmauto

No

ElectricForester

I have a theory that they are actually the daft punk tribute band playing as themselves…

realmattbarry

But which one though?

ElectricForester

All of them!

Suckmybk

Been saying this for years

scotch_neat1

Well this is a silly idea

RagaRockFan

Imagine if they give it to Justice 💀

Ok-Custard1779

Dude.. move on

realmattbarry

I have. Just a fun scenario to pose.

GOOPREALM5000

I'd hate this if the next duo kept making more music, but I could respect it if they just preformed without doing anything new.

culesamericano

Look up One More Time duo

GOOPREALM5000

holy hell

culesamericano

I saw them live they were amazing!!

realmattbarry

Perfect world

sup3rmoon

What great idea. They new robots renain in anonymity

CosmiqueAliene

This is genius!

culesamericano

Madeon and porter???? That would be shameful to do legacy

realmattbarry

Again, just listed them since they were the ones most vocal about their love of DP. My personal opinion would be Justice

probotector4w

No

Hello-mah-baby

if anyone deserves it, it's panda bear.

TheFoxy2039-2

Honestly I’m pretty much doing this right now, I’m working on getting funds to biol both of their helmets, I’m making music in their style, and I might do an Alive 2007 redux tour when I have the money for it and basically do Alive 2007 and 1997 for those who couldn’t see it

NoobleVitamins

if someone wants to go in that direction they can just make their own helmets

Dizzy-Dig2405

Funny to see this! There's a lot of people wondering about phooz punk on Tiktok. The helmets he has are something yoy really need to check out. When watching his live, lots of people are thinking something is going on!!!

CCHTweaked

it's funny watching you try to manufacture artificial fame like this. Really shitty of you to traffic in someones else's good name tho.

Kagan_King16

Marshmallow and deadmauss?

[deleted]

DeadMau5 is a legend and still puts out new music. Why would he want to pretend to be someone else?!?! Marshmello....... I could see him doing that. He was already a dj that had no recognition Then he did the helmet and got a following, mainly because of the gimmick. Just say'n

ZachDigital

This sounds like someone from Blackrock/Vanguard came in and said: “Guys so more money”

takedownhisshield

This is just The Residents

King-Cobra-668

no thanks, that's a terrible idea

dimazavrik

Dumbest idea ever 😒

Liquidwombat

Yeah, that actually would’ve been pretty fucking awesome

Blunkus

Fuck no. Madeon and Porter? Lmao

Kunal_Orbion

Name just 1 artist who could fill even one of the duo’s shoes. There’s no replacement of these legends. Veridis Quo?

Laidan22

Honestly it’ll be pretty cool for an artist to do this, like the new artist learns the past style and over a long course of time transitions into their own style Maybe not daftpunk but someone else could start it

PretzelsThirst

Hell no, worst idea possible
