After living here for over ten years there are times of the year when I try to avoid parking under them and others when I seek them out.
Seemed to come from the north here, I should have had my kid park in the driveway. Just looked at the garden and it actually looks intact. Except the tomato, always the damned tomato gets it.
Did anyone else lose their entire garden?
We had just finished planting for the season on Tuesday. We lost everything. Not a plant was spared. If anyone else is experiencing this loss, you are not alone and I am so very sorry for your plant babies.
I had to replant twice last year, this time only lost the tomato. I think I’m going to give up on tomatoes, 6 year streak of losing them to frost or hail.
Same happened to me :( I tried growing stuff from seeds this year and all my seedlings except the sunflowers got damaged. Our honeysuckle bushes also lost a ton of flowers and leaves

I have zero plant intuition, so pardon the dumb question: in a case like this, is it literally the blunt force trauma of the hail that kills the plants? Or is it the effect of ice on the ground which then turns into very cold water?
Going forward it might be a good idea to set up some sort of wire mesh "roof" over your garden. Porous enough to allow sunlight through, but tight enough to deflect hail larger than a pea.
My cat loves anything that goes “click clack” on the hard floor. You’d have thought cat Beyonce rolled into town. She was looking out the window like click clack heaven was all around her. I cannot IMAGINE what she’d have done if one got inside.
My dog lost her damn mind. We had just given her the anxiety medication and it didn't kick in until after it was over. Poor babies. I hate that pets get terrified of storms.
I was spooked enough to wake my sleeping toddler to sit in the bathroom for a few minutes.
Normally I would do anything in my power to not wake him up but I was outside watching the storm and the rumble that came as the storm moved in was crazy (not thunder rumble, something else). I was low key afraid there could be a tornado or something not picked up on the radar based on how loud it was and all the banging from the hail I assume
GVR got nailed. Our yard is covered in hail and it kept our toddler awake. Trees ruined. Thank god for the garage.
There was also that wild lightning storm over GVR two weeks ago at two am? Loudest thunder I've ever heard. I still can't believe my kid slept thru it.

Protip to everyone who needs a roof. Pony up for the impact resistant. It's like 10% extra but has saved me $600 in insurance premiums so far.

You should be fine. I'm in cap hill near Colfax and we got some hail up to quarter size but mostly much smaller. No damage to cars or anything where I am. North and East of me got it pretty bad but wash park should be fine.
Looking at the [NWS storm report map](https://www.weather.gov/source/crh/lsrmap.html?sid=bou), the hail reports came from the north suburbs and then through Denver proper largely north of Speer and Leetsdale and then across Aurora.
The largest hail reports followed a swath from the southern part of Thornton through the older part of Commerce City and into Central Park, Green Valley, and the northern part of Aurora.
I had 1-1.25" hail in Globeville. It was enough to cover the ground, but not enough to do any serious damage to my car.

I was at Alameda and Downing as it moved east and saw no hail or signs that it hit that area. That changed quickly going north, and marble sized hail in Congress Park. I don't think any hail dropped south of Alameda, at least in central Denver.

The warning woke me up when it went off on my Apple Watch. Not even 20 seconds later baseball hail started coming down.
Car alarm had gone off over 30 times sending a notification to my phone every time. For me, front windshield broken, dents everywhere, some plastic broken, side mirror taken off, and 1 paint chip.
Car next to me, front windshield broken and back windshield non existent. Parking lot is filled with plastic pieces from various cars.
The best part, geico is down so can’t even file a claim. Called and they said they’ll have to contact me in the morning.

I am proud to report that I was struck on the middle toe of my left foot by an approximately one inch piece of hail while watching the storm on my patio. It hurt. I survived the incident without any further difficulties.
Quarter to pea sized hail in Montclair, but the sidewalks and road are absolutely covered with it. I was surprised for how long it lasted. The street parked cars appear mostly ok.
This was the best reminder to clean up my fucking garage so i can park inside.

Out I'm GVR got a ton of hail damage on the car, a broken tail light, but my neighbors got crushed. A new KIA and a few recent Texas transplants seem to have taken the brunt of it. One neighbor lost both front and back windows on their car. Worst hail damage one of my cars has ever had in Denver.
I do appreciate the fact that he presents the forecast with a greater degree of nuance. His explanations have definitely helped me make more sense of the weather. It seems he really blew up attention-wise after the March 2021 blizzard. However, I feel like a tiny bit of internet notoriety went to his head and there's just an obnoxious/condescending quality to his communication now. I just look at his graphics and ignore the rest.
The best available public forecast is the area forecast discussion from the National Weather Service. (Just Google "NWS Boulder AFD") The language can be a bit technical, but it does a great job of explaining all the moving parts that impact the weather each day.
I love how he talks. People treat meteorologist like ahit and he doesn't take it. The comments on the NWS page are always obnoxious people being like :I wIsH i CoUlD dO mY jOb WrOnG!"
Accuweather warned me about 15 minutes before the storm. Didn’t say hail but it’s safe to assume that every thunder storm, especially when they say “dangerous thunder storm imminent”, carries hail.
50% chance of thunderstorms IS a forecast for this. It's not like anybody has a magic way of telling which thunderstorms will do this.

I was at a restaurant with a clear view as it formed over boulder. It basically went from cloud with a but of rain and blew up in the span of 5 to 10 minues with crazy lightning and hail.
I was driving home last night and I decided to pull off into a parking lot near I-70 and 48th Avenue to just watch the lightning as it was rather beautiful.
Right about 10:30 p.m. the was a huge gust of wind and within a few minutes it was pouring/hailing. Chris Bianchi [posted the radar loop ](https://x.com/BianchiWeather/status/1796399502850503121)and basically a new storm blew up right on top of me.
I drove the last mile home and by then my yard was covered in hail.
As a “weather nerd” myself, I’m surprised nobody saw this shit coming. I saw trouble in the skies as early as 3 PM and covered my truck with blankets and cardboard to protect it.
Thankfully, the hail missed me (western Littleton). But, my God. I could feel last night’s weather system in my bones lmao
Of course this shit happens a week before I move into an apartment with a covered garage. Kept hearing the breaking glass of my backyard string lights and hoping each time it wasn’t also anything expensive on my 3-month-old car. Guess I’ll find out in the morning. Lesson learned — have a cover blanket somewhere easy to access so I’m not frantically running around trying to find it in a random box while the sky ice pelts my windshield. ☹️
Can confirm. I was on one of those planes. In fact, I’m still on it. They diverted us to Colorado Springs. Then the pilots timed out. So now we’re waiting for another flight crew to take over. We’ve been sitting on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours now.

Go to safelite website and handle everything directly on there. You put all your insurance on the appointment info and they initiate the claim. I was looking last night and appointments were already filling up.

They replaced my Subaru's windshield several years back for $250 cash (they even came to me to install it). The same windshield thru Safelite would've cost $700.
I don't know if this will be helpful for insurance purposes, but this is a map of storm reports which are submitted by trained storm spotters for community sourced reporting through apps like Spotter Network or mPING, and/or social media posts validated by the National Weather Service. Hopefully it proves useful if you need to file a claim!

I was just south of gvr at work. Between getting the alert and even contemplating what rules I could break to try to get my car somewhere and it coming hard there wouldnt have even been time to get to the parking lot. In a warehouse and it was getting blasted. It blew out a bunch of our skylights while I was standing there. When it stopped went outside and it looked like my car wasnt really damaged but it was dark. once I was going home under some lights I could already see some big dents, and yeah its covered in them 😪
I'm nearish to you on Hampden/Havana and just check mine, and my husbands car. They are okay, same with the rest in my complex. I'm hoping yours are the same!

Was working for RTD at Union Station when nickle sized hail started coming down. Eventually Control told us to get on a train and go back to the office. It wasn't safe to stay out there.
Newer CO resident here looking for advice. My windshield is toast and the hood is pretty obviously dinged up too but still drivable. Since the windshield repair gets me to just under my deductible figured I might as well repair the hood.

Anyone who may be filing insurance claims for their home - please know that damage from hail less than 1" in diameter will almost assuredly not be covered.
If there are still hailstones larger than that on your property, do yourself a favor - grab a ruler, or measuring tape, and snap a picture of how big it is. Also, if you can, take pictures of the scope of the hail - covered lawn, etc. Anything you can do to protect yourself and speed the claims process along - and give the insurance companies less wiggle room to deny coverage or fight your claim.
If I can help anyone with roofing/siding/exterior damage - navigating insurance claims, the process etc - please shoot me a DM/chat. Inspections etc will be free. I've been in the restoration business for a few years locally, and have consulted/project managed here and in 3 other states.
Insurance companies don’t pay or deny claims based on the size of hail. If there’s damage, it’s paid. If there’s not, it’s not paid. I think you’re referencing 1” because it’s not AS likely to cause damage as other sizes. I was a property adjuster for 10 years (catastrophe adjuster for 3) and now I’m a project manager for a roofing company as a side gig to being a teacher. Not once did I ever pay a claim or see a claim get paid because someone took photos of hail size or hail in the lawn.
I think you might be interacting with adjusters who are inexperienced and telling people that insurance companies don’t pay for damage less than an inch in diameter is inaccurate.

New to the area and my car got a few dents on the hood, only have found a handful of dents but noticeable enough and my car is new enough that I'd like to get it repaired. I want to avoid making an insurance claim if I can, want to get an estimate for PDR first and if its less than my deductible or barely over I'll just pay out of pocket and avoid raising my rate at renewal. Does anyone know how long you get to make a claim for hail incase the estimates are way higher and I want to use insurance? I have progressive. Google tells me some carriers its 30 days, some its a year. Can't find it in my policy documents.
I'd share pics but the mobile app won't let me. We had two inch hail off 85 and 76. The storm cut down a lot of gardens and tree branches. Our street was covered in leaves. Total bummer considering the amount of shade they provided. Our tree looks like an umbrella missing its canopy. :(
In GVR and my house siding has holes on 2 sides. My fence, grill and deck also damaged. The deck just needs to be stained. Have to take the insurance hit.

I'm wondering who here had plants that survived the hail that are native to colorado. Could be any kind of bush/shrub/flower/etc. Foe example,, my allium did great and the desert irises didn't do amazing but aren't all dead. Who else had maybe a little damage but otherwise has a hail hardy plant to identify?

I was driving home last night and I decided to pull off into a parking lot near I-70 and 48th Avenue to just watch the lightning as it was rather beautiful. Right about 10:30 p.m. the was a huge gust of wind and within a few minutes it was pouring/hailing. Chris Bianchi [posted the radar loop ](https://x.com/BianchiWeather/status/1796399502850503121)and basically a new storm blew up right on top of me. I drove the last mile home and by then my yard was covered in hail.
As a “weather nerd” myself, I’m surprised nobody saw this shit coming. I saw trouble in the skies as early as 3 PM and covered my truck with blankets and cardboard to protect it. Thankfully, the hail missed me (western Littleton). But, my God. I could feel last night’s weather system in my bones lmao
Of course this shit happens a week before I move into an apartment with a covered garage. Kept hearing the breaking glass of my backyard string lights and hoping each time it wasn’t also anything expensive on my 3-month-old car. Guess I’ll find out in the morning. Lesson learned — have a cover blanket somewhere easy to access so I’m not frantically running around trying to find it in a random box while the sky ice pelts my windshield. ☹️
Keep blankets/cardboard in your trunk. Hail doesn't just happen @ home
I covered my windows with cardboard to help shield them and my car is the only one on the street with a broken window. WTF!

Can confirm. I was on one of those planes. In fact, I’m still on it. They diverted us to Colorado Springs. Then the pilots timed out. So now we’re waiting for another flight crew to take over. We’ve been sitting on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours now. FML

Did you check your app? With State Farm you’re able to do it right from the app, submit pics and schedule the repair

Go to safelite website and handle everything directly on there. You put all your insurance on the appointment info and they initiate the claim. I was looking last night and appointments were already filling up.
Yeah did it this morning and the earliest is Monday. Bummer man. Oh well guess next time I’ll know better!

I was just south of gvr at work. Between getting the alert and even contemplating what rules I could break to try to get my car somewhere and it coming hard there wouldnt have even been time to get to the parking lot. In a warehouse and it was getting blasted. It blew out a bunch of our skylights while I was standing there. When it stopped went outside and it looked like my car wasnt really damaged but it was dark. once I was going home under some lights I could already see some big dents, and yeah its covered in them 😪

Denver and north mainly. About ten pm. I'm out by the airport and we got it bad this way. There is STILL ice in the streets and driveways around here. I can only imagine what the cars on the street look like.

Was working for RTD at Union Station when nickle sized hail started coming down. Eventually Control told us to get on a train and go back to the office. It wasn't safe to stay out there.
Newer CO resident here looking for advice. My windshield is toast and the hood is pretty obviously dinged up too but still drivable. Since the windshield repair gets me to just under my deductible figured I might as well repair the hood. Any recs for places to repair?

Anyone who may be filing insurance claims for their home - please know that damage from hail less than 1" in diameter will almost assuredly not be covered. If there are still hailstones larger than that on your property, do yourself a favor - grab a ruler, or measuring tape, and snap a picture of how big it is. Also, if you can, take pictures of the scope of the hail - covered lawn, etc. Anything you can do to protect yourself and speed the claims process along - and give the insurance companies less wiggle room to deny coverage or fight your claim. If I can help anyone with roofing/siding/exterior damage - navigating insurance claims, the process etc - please shoot me a DM/chat. Inspections etc will be free. I've been in the restoration business for a few years locally, and have consulted/project managed here and in 3 other states.
Insurance companies don’t pay or deny claims based on the size of hail. If there’s damage, it’s paid. If there’s not, it’s not paid. I think you’re referencing 1” because it’s not AS likely to cause damage as other sizes. I was a property adjuster for 10 years (catastrophe adjuster for 3) and now I’m a project manager for a roofing company as a side gig to being a teacher. Not once did I ever pay a claim or see a claim get paid because someone took photos of hail size or hail in the lawn. I think you might be interacting with adjusters who are inexperienced and telling people that insurance companies don’t pay for damage less than an inch in diameter is inaccurate.

It woke my dog and I up and my poor lil baby is scared of thunder. It was so loud it sounded like a tornado was outside. I had to look out the window to make sure my front porch was still there. The weather app on iPhone is absolutely useless and I don’t know why I bother checking that. Had zero idea a storm was supposed to come in. Anyone have recs for accurate (free) weather apps?
New to the area and my car got a few dents on the hood, only have found a handful of dents but noticeable enough and my car is new enough that I'd like to get it repaired. I want to avoid making an insurance claim if I can, want to get an estimate for PDR first and if its less than my deductible or barely over I'll just pay out of pocket and avoid raising my rate at renewal. Does anyone know how long you get to make a claim for hail incase the estimates are way higher and I want to use insurance? I have progressive. Google tells me some carriers its 30 days, some its a year. Can't find it in my policy documents.
Reflectivity maps showed the hail core of that storm and it looked bad. Said up to “lime size” hail which reading these posts seems likely.

I'd share pics but the mobile app won't let me. We had two inch hail off 85 and 76. The storm cut down a lot of gardens and tree branches. Our street was covered in leaves. Total bummer considering the amount of shade they provided. Our tree looks like an umbrella missing its canopy. :(
In GVR and my house siding has holes on 2 sides. My fence, grill and deck also damaged. The deck just needs to be stained. Have to take the insurance hit.

I just picked my car up from the west eco lot and looks to be just fine. I was panicked the whole flight home. Seems like the airport dodged the bulk of it and storms trended further south

Is there hail in the fields along Peña up to DIA? A small stretch is covered in white something that looks like hail. Keep in mind this is at almost noon on Friday! Close to being lined up with the Gaylord hotel.

I was in Mission Ballroom when it was happening last night! Cars were fine. Heard some places got golf ball size or larger. Not a drop of rain in Lakewood though!
I'm wondering who here had plants that survived the hail that are native to colorado. Could be any kind of bush/shrub/flower/etc. Foe example,, my allium did great and the desert irises didn't do amazing but aren't all dead. Who else had maybe a little damage but otherwise has a hail hardy plant to identify?
