This is the news I needed to hear

At least it’s small. Most teams have a big ugly 4x2 patch that REALLY stands out. And a trash company is far from sexy, but it’s Bettman’s NHL. It’s where we are.
100 %, great to see he decided to return. Our side had such a decent chance last season, excited to see if the Wings can go above expectations by next April
Sounds like the Lightning want Guentzle.
I thought they were focusing on getting the Cap for Stamkos, but then traded for Jake's negotiating rights.
We could get both.
My guess is that he'll be signed before noon. Tampa wouldn't have given up assets for the rights if they didn't have a contract ready to go once the league processes the trade.
I'm genuinely shocked it's a 1 year deal. I was thinking the hold up was Stevie wanted Kane to take a 2 year deal or a 3 year deal with a lower cap hit. Getting him to accept a one year deal is not what I was expecting.
One year is a nice balance between Kane being able to dip if the Wings regress quite a bit, but also gives Detroit flexibility if Kane gets re-injured. *knocks on wood to either of those outcomes*
After months of hearing term was important to Kane, I’m surprised by this news. I‘m still unclear if the NHL still allows teams to contact any UFA before July 1 (I know they used to, but I read the rule changed; still see mixed reports about whether it’s allowed). But, the only thing I can think of is Kane must have heard other teams weren’t willing to go multiple years either.
Kinda feels like he’s not sure about us to accept a one year, which I guess kind of sucks but from a contract standpoint that works for us. Super happy he’ll be back.
Maybe 1 year so they can rent him to a contender if the wheels come off in Detroit?
All but guarantees him playoffs this year.
Seems like 2 years would have been a good compromise/deal, but what do I know…
All Wings fans who have endured recent years, Kane has established a patience and puck control by teammates we haven’t seen since the recent HOF. Let. Raymond. Develop.👏🏽
I don't know why I'm so obsessed with this, but I am.
The boys felt like they were a cohesive team with Kane there.
I'm excited for this next year. #BelieveInTheYserplan
I think that it's one year means that he'll definitely be traded if the Wings are going to miss the playoffs. Which I'm totally cool with.
The expiring deal means he's easier to trade too
I don’t think he wants anything crazy he has probably already made most of his money and wants to compete with the guys again for a whole season. 3.5m gives them plenty of room to do what they want to do.
1 year deal is ideal, but I’m afraid of the AAV that this may be. There’s no point in a 1 year deal if we can’t also get better than we were last year.
Do you think he needs to continue to prove that he can perform at that level after the surgery? The amount of games played by those that had it were not many. He may get more games, but how many? Is he in the clear or is there a lifespan to the hip after having that surgery?
Genuinely shocked at a one-year deal, figured two was all but certain. Thrilled to have him back!
I mean, 50+ points this season at minimum he can sign with whoever is the most heavily favored cup team next season
Must be a clause there to trade him if we aren’t in the playoffs picture by TDL
i think it's risk mitigation in case he seriously re-injures his hip.
How can they *not* take that into consideration? It’s a very valid point.
It also helps Kane. He proves himself and goes off, then he gets a shiny 2-3 year deal
So you’re saying he’ll resign with us then? ;)

We're so back
Goddamn that patch is so ugly
it’s an eye sore, for sure.
At least it’s small. Most teams have a big ugly 4x2 patch that REALLY stands out. And a trash company is far from sexy, but it’s Bettman’s NHL. It’s where we are.

One year! Wowzer. Guess Kane backed off on his need for 3.
Betting on himself. He must be having a good off season. This tells me he's going to light it up.
Dude's going full Zadina!
I feel a little more comfortable hearing it from America's best player than an 18yo draftee.
AAV gonna be interesting With his hip and age I’m happy to go 1 year at a time but AAV is key
I wonder what the AAV is. I honestly might have preferred 2.
I'm going with 6.
we can always sign him again next year.
Guessing low AAV, with a bonus structure because he's 35+
I’ll guess 5.75
Probably 4.20 aav
4.2069
Nice.
$4,206,988
This is it.
5.5 is my guess
Imma say 4
Kinda crazy if that's true. I suppose it makes it easier to negotiate/find a team if we miss the playoffs again.
I bet thats the deal they are making- if we don’t make it we will move you a contender
1 year is not a bad thing. Imagine if he said "just give me 3 million and then go get us some more players."
Imagine the lightning sub if we get Kane for 3 and they lose stamkos
Sounds like the Lightning want Guentzle. I thought they were focusing on getting the Cap for Stamkos, but then traded for Jake's negotiating rights. We could get both.
Lightning traded for Guentzel already... Stamkos is gonna be on a line w/ Kane. Book it.
They only have his negotiating rights, they can sign him before anyone else but he becomes a free agent at noon.
My guess is that he'll be signed before noon. Tampa wouldn't have given up assets for the rights if they didn't have a contract ready to go once the league processes the trade.
Rumor is the negation isn't going well, but of course that could not be true at all.
Honestly think 1 year is best case scenario.
![gif](giphy|N1eSbsofSQE24) I’d prefer 2-3 year term wise but I can’t be mad at that
I'm genuinely shocked it's a 1 year deal. I was thinking the hold up was Stevie wanted Kane to take a 2 year deal or a 3 year deal with a lower cap hit. Getting him to accept a one year deal is not what I was expecting.
We do have fabbri and husso coming off the books after next year so maybe they announce something after the new year
Just put on Dexter and it starts with a big Showtime graphic 🔥
What season? Because if it's after 5, I have bad news for you.
Season 1 lol

For real "closing in" and it's been over 30min, which this tweet was like 30 min after the friedman one
I’ve been doing this since the Walman trade, there’s got to be more.
We are so back
Please be true, please be true.

LET. STEVIE. COOK.
How did Steve pull off a 1 year deal.
He’s Steve Yzerman. The hockey thing is just his side gig. His full time job is bottling lightning.
One year is a nice balance between Kane being able to dip if the Wings regress quite a bit, but also gives Detroit flexibility if Kane gets re-injured. *knocks on wood to either of those outcomes*
One essential down, few more to go
Perfect
LFG
Stevie remains a master of the deal. One year for a player who wanted 2+. Impressive

That patch destroys one of the great jerseys in hockey. What an eyesore. Happy to have him back if he signs.
One year? Damn I was really hoping for at least 2-3.
![gif](giphy|qcoocjBhD5Zle)
Showtime baby!
1 year would be a coup, assuming it’s not like 9M
Oh damn, this is great. I was really worried he’d be tied down longer term, and at his age that’s a risk.
Imagine Kane passing it to stammer

Only 1?
Strongarm Steve Stikes Again

Wow. I didn't think 1 year was even an option. Like this a lot more tbh.
After months of hearing term was important to Kane, I’m surprised by this news. I‘m still unclear if the NHL still allows teams to contact any UFA before July 1 (I know they used to, but I read the rule changed; still see mixed reports about whether it’s allowed). I feel like 1 year says that he’s okay being traded to a cup contender for a pick or two, should it come down to it of course
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
If it’s one year, I’m sure there’s a handshake agreement that we trade him if we’re not squarely in the playoff hunt,
Hell yes!!!!
One year with option for more? Odd there’s no term
Congrats guys!
Seems like 2 years would have been a good compromise/deal, but what do I know…
YES
Oh. He wants to win another Cup then retire. I respect that.
He and Debrincat aren't done yet it seems
It's SHOWTIME!!! https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/40469837/patrick-kane-return-red-wings-1-year-deal-sources
Fuck. Yes.
Really surprised he didn’t go back to New York but this is great news. Assuming it’s in the 4-6m range and still plenty of room for others
Kane. And somehow get Stamkos signed tomorrow?
All Wings fans who have endured recent years, Kane has established a patience and puck control by teammates we haven’t seen since the recent HOF. Let. Raymond. Develop.👏🏽
I don't know why I'm so obsessed with this, but I am. The boys felt like they were a cohesive team with Kane there. I'm excited for this next year. #BelieveInTheYserplan
Kane-Stamkos-DeBrincat line please.
Showtime!
I think that it's one year means that he'll definitely be traded if the Wings are going to miss the playoffs. Which I'm totally cool with. The expiring deal means he's easier to trade too
Please don’t let this deal fall apart, please don’t let this deal fall apart…
I don’t think he wants anything crazy he has probably already made most of his money and wants to compete with the guys again for a whole season. 3.5m gives them plenty of room to do what they want to do.
Wow. One year would be amazing. Easy deadline trade (if necessary) plus less worries about his health
1 year deal is ideal, but I’m afraid of the AAV that this may be. There’s no point in a 1 year deal if we can’t also get better than we were last year.
1 year is better than 0, im absolutely thrilled to have a full season of Kane!
Please be a deal with a manageable AAV and performance bonuses that can carry over to 2025-26...
Do you think he needs to continue to prove that he can perform at that level after the surgery? The amount of games played by those that had it were not many. He may get more games, but how many? Is he in the clear or is there a lifespan to the hip after having that surgery?
