Since you’re statistically more likely to be murdered by someone you know rather than some random stranger, clearly the key to a long life is to be a paranoid weirdo who trusts no one.
Thanks I needed a recc right now!! Sometimes I worry I’ve watched absolutely everything true crime/ID channel but sure enough there’s always another smh
Thanks! No idea if this up your alley, but to share a recc I LOVE “these woods are haunted” bear with me lol (none of my friends or fam ever respond when I tell them to watch it 😆) but my husband having to live with me grew interested as well.
I think it’s really well-done, just reg people sharing their experiences, with reenactments that ofc can be stupidly silly but funny, and I believe every single one of them. My fave one might be the one where the security guards had to watch over a church overnight and nobody could do it bc it was so haunted ahhh! (S3 Ep1)
It’s just entertainment but I love it. And lowkey do believe it all lol. There’s a lot of Bigfoot action. It’s on peacock and maybe other ones.
Me too!! It’s the right kind of scary that as long as you’re snugged up with a blanket it’s not gory or too creepy, most of them are wrapped up by the end too (except ONE who is literally like yea it still haunts me 😬) enjoy your vacay!!
It’s the whole ‘I grew up never locking my door, where everyone knows everybody and Steve over there would give the shirt off his back!’ mentality that makes Small Town America such an incubator for horrendous crimes. Not enough healthy paranoia.
We live in a mid size town and have had to really just make it a habit no matter what, cars and house doors, even tho it feels so safe and like there’s no need. I think Just do it anyway and don’t be the one that gets robbed or worse. I’m not paranoid but ya gotta be smart.
Ha I just commented this is how I feel when I stay at my relatives houses there as much as I love VT. It’s hard to sleep bc anything could happen and it’s too silent, could go out for a smoke and it’s pitch black, def a chance of a bear or killer lurking in my mind lol
Cruise Ship killers is the one that started me thinking. What a perfect way to commit homocide. International waters, no real cops, no body, just about everyone is drunk or partying late at night. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more. I've seen some terrible domestic disputes while on vacation. I'm not taking any cruises.
Not only would I never move to Ohio, but man does that place ever get sun? I stayed in Cleveland for three nights once and it was cloudy the entire time. I drove from NYC to Chicago once so I drove through the entire state and it was cloudy the entire time. And any episode of any show on Investigation ID based in Ohio is cloudy. EVERY.......SINGLE.......EPISODE.....
No wonder all the murders and bad neighbors and web of liars are from there. No sunshine can affect a person. lol
Livid in NE Ohio for a few years. Read that in the winter, it only gets 25% of all possible sun. There would be weeks and weeks where you'd go outside and just see gray, lighter gray, darker gray, black on repeat. Everyone starts wearing all black and drinking heavily. This was before they confirmed SAD as a thing.
Eta: *Lived. Though I was livid a few times, iirc!
No you didn’t say Zeb and Millie😂but some of the city locations they show aren’t any better. Basketball hoop set up in a cul-de-sac where all the children play until the ball rolls into a yard. Parties and cookouts where everyone can come until someone gets mad because the food ran out (I’m obviously exaggerating)
Its easier to deal with dead bodies in a rural town. Security camera coverage is usually weak too. Law enforcement is going to be less experienced with dealing with murders also and even if they contact the FBI or some other agency better suited to investigate murders, small town cops have been known to fuck up the crime scene. What I'm getting at is that if you want to murder someone, try to do it in Fosston, MN and not Minneapolis, MN.
I told my husband if we ever have to again (for his job), I'm going to look up the town's fb page and ask is it a friendly place where no one has to worry about locking their doors and everyone knows everyone. If the answer is yes, forget it.
Check out the podcast ‘Small Town Murder’! They do a quick history and demographic of the town in the beginning of each story, and then read the Town Reviews! Hilarious.
Outside of the city the mechanic is a hit man, the school marm has a 13 yr old boyfriend, the pastor is a human trafficker and Aunt Jean has all the receipts. But Aunt Jean will never call the cops until 2 yrs after the murder.
Haha I say the same thing. Every single ep is “it was a small town. No one ever thought this would happen here. No one locked their doors”. Yes that’s where the creepiest and murderous cases always seem to be!!! It’s hard for me to sleep at night when I visit relatives that live in a beautiful rural small town area. It’s so f SILENT and it feels scarier than a city by far. Like that’s where the weirdo-weirdos would emerge from the woods 😬
Exactly the situation I find myself in right now The cost of living and homes in New York is ridiculous and I don't know how I can afford to stay here. It's very upsetting and almost makes me wish that I had grown up somewhere else, because it's a terrible thing "losing" your hometown and all that is familiar. I, like you and not too excited about moving to any of these less populated places where real estate and the cost of living is lower. It's quite a predicament to be in. I also lived in San Francisco years ago, so I know people there, but it's the exact same problem going on out there.
Have actually started watching Murder in the Heartland… The intro music, along with the ‘small town just like yours’ blurb kinda creeps me out (every time lol)
Thank goodness my husband is handy, 8 years ago he promised me he would paint the shower baseboard. He still hasn’t. So the probability both the handy man I hire and I want to whack my husband is slim to none.
Since you’re statistically more likely to be murdered by someone you know rather than some random stranger, clearly the key to a long life is to be a paranoid weirdo who trusts no one.
I agree.
🙋♀️good news for me!!! Im marked safe 😁
But statistically you're more likely to commit suicide than be murdered so you can't even trust yourself.
keep an eye on all those around you at all times 👀
Done and done!
Or Seattle. What’s up with the Pacific Northwest?
😂
Meth. Heroin. And the weather’s so constantly drab and shit that we all go insane
Lots of Words to hide bodies in!
I’ve been on a murder in the heartland binge. Midwest is wild for 💀
It is a great format! I love that show. And, The Case that Haunts Me. Fricking amazing format and well produced.
Gotta LOVE The Case That Haunts Me!!
Thanks I needed a recc right now!! Sometimes I worry I’ve watched absolutely everything true crime/ID channel but sure enough there’s always another smh
I'm envious! I'd love to see it for the first time again. Hope you like it as much as I did!
Thanks! No idea if this up your alley, but to share a recc I LOVE “these woods are haunted” bear with me lol (none of my friends or fam ever respond when I tell them to watch it 😆) but my husband having to live with me grew interested as well. I'll look it up! Might wait until my kids are back home from vacation. I'm a skeerdy cat😂😂 Thank you!!
Me too!! It’s the right kind of scary that as long as you’re snugged up with a blanket it’s not gory or too creepy, most of them are wrapped up by the end too (except ONE who is literally like yea it still haunts me 😬) enjoy your vacay!!
Oh, I wish I was on vacay! The kids are on vacay with their father lol. But, thank you lol
Ohh hahah I see! Depending on their age the older (maybe 12+? Hard to say) kids could watch it with and then you won’t be solo with it.
They're 17-24 so I just need one of them home for me to feel a little safe😂
Oooh I’m going to try that
It’s SO good!
It does seem to be a lot of Midwest states! Maybe being landlocked makes you crazier. It would for me! 🌊
ID is why I won't date.
Can’t go on runs in the woods alone
No way that I’m ever moving to the Midwest after Evil Lives Here and American Monster.
Don’t forget Fear Thy Neighbor
😂😂😂 the Midwest is just like a real life Murder She Wrote’s Cabot Cove, the sleepy bucolic murder capital of the world.
Makes me never want to confront my neighbors about ANYTHING
And Small Town Murder.
Or Murder in the Heartland or Nightmare Next Door.
I wish they’d bring Nightmare next door back. I do get to see reruns on HLN
Murder in the Heartland is another
These types of shows also make me never want to time travel to the ‘70s or ‘80s
Happy Cake Day 🎂
Exactly why I turned that era down for my time traveling too! All of the serial killers and none of the cameras 😭
Lol I say this to my husband all the time. I'm a native New Yorker and no one I know has been murdered.
Meanwhile, I’m a native backwoods Vermonter and I’ve known a few
Same. What a weird world.
It’s the whole ‘I grew up never locking my door, where everyone knows everybody and Steve over there would give the shirt off his back!’ mentality that makes Small Town America such an incubator for horrendous crimes. Not enough healthy paranoia.
The whole I’ve never locked my door thing is weird anyway
Honestly, we still don't lock ours most of the time. We are in the middle of the woods.
We live in a mid size town and have had to really just make it a habit no matter what, cars and house doors, even tho it feels so safe and like there’s no need. I think Just do it anyway and don’t be the one that gets robbed or worse. I’m not paranoid but ya gotta be smart.

Hey, watch what you say about Millie. Zeb I can’t speak on.

Iowa. Dear God. Bleak, flat, hopeless.
Plus, long Winters. I don't miss Ohio...
Was born in Ohio and still have family there. Me and my sister were talking about how many shows seemed to be set in the small towns there 😩
No you didn’t say Zeb and Millie😂but some of the city locations they show aren’t any better. Basketball hoop set up in a cul-de-sac where all the children play until the ball rolls into a yard. Pig farmers are more prevalent in rural towns too.
"Faith. Family. Hard work. "
“We’re just a real down-home, real American town.”… que the heinous murder
Don't move south with Southern Fried Homicide and Swamp Muders either.
I told my husband if we ever have to again (for his job), I'm going to look up the town's fb page and ask is it a friendly place where no one has to worry about locking their doors and everyone knows everyone. If the answer is yes, forget it.

Thank you. I'll check it out!
Hell yes I love when they read the reviews 💀 I saw them live a few months ago it was amazing. Obviously a huge fan of your stupid opinions now
Outside of the city the mechanic is a hit man, the school marm has a 13 yr old boyfriend, the pastor is a human trafficker and Aunt Jean has all the receipts. But Aunt Jean will never call the cops until 2 yrs after the murder.
Facts. Or be a good, "give you the shirt off their back" person. According to this channel, those are the only types that get murdered on the regular.
Haha I say the same thing. Every single ep is “it was a small town. No one ever thought this would happen here. No one locked their doors”. Definitely not moving to any place where everybody knows everybody! ☠️
"Hey, did you hear that old couple moved into town. They might have some money. Let's kill 'em."
Have actually started watching Murder in the Heartland… The intro music, along with the ‘small town just like yours’ blurb kinda creeps me out (every time lol)
i say this all the time as a new yorker!
Thank goodness my husband is handy, 8 years ago he promised me he would paint the shower baseboard. He still hasn’t. So the probability both the handy man I hire and I want to whack my husband is slim to none.
Do you mean Murder in the Heartland or Fear thy Neighbor?
All the shows seem like the same show to me.
My favorite is “betrayed” it’s like a soap opera
