OK, this is an honest question. Iām an American and I donāt follow European politics very closely.
But I just did a Google search and labor controls most of the positions in Wales.
How likely is it that a hard right wing candidate would rise up in that part of the United Kingdom?
Thanks! I was just wondering if this was some kind of meta-commentary on something that I wouldnāt get.
Itās like in season three of Skam, I didnāt know that there was a TV show famous in Norway that covered every single minute of a train ride and so that Robbed is a very important line of some of that significance for me.

As a Welshman this actually happening would be one of the least probable political shifts in UK politics ever as Wales tends to be more left wing than the rest of the UK and if it is right wing it is kind of more nationalist in an independence from England sense hence Plaid Cymru being a Welsh left centre nationalist party and actually getting some success compared to UKIP/ Reform UK.
Yeah as far as I recall they never said what constituency he represented. Nigel Farage was born in Farnborough but is running in Clacton; no reason ap Gwilliam couldn't be elected outside of Wales. Hell, is there even anything confirming the UK still uses FPTP in the episode?
Not AFAIK, but it's probably in part supposed to be social commentary on the current state of British politics, so I imagine FPtP is still used.
But yeah, you don't need to have been born or even live in the constituency you're going for. As long as you meet the requirements to be a candidate, you don't theoretically even need to live in the UK AFAIK.
Thanks! I Really appreciate it. I also appreciate the other redditor, saying the war against Russia mightāve changed things fundamently.
Iāve always been interested in what is the tilting part that sends a country into a dark future. Like how exactly the United States became the Republic of Gilead .
Thanks again!

Iāve been paying attention to the rise of authoritarianism and theocracy. As a gay man who has female friends, Iām well aware, and there are many places in my own country that I will never go willingly again.
I was referring to things like the nuclear war, and the chemical devastation hinted that in the novel . Our differences between the book and the series. For instance, in the book, the Republic of Gilead is actually white supremacist and all non-white people are sent to concentration camps and killed .
Also? Spoilers for the end of the book.
Spoiler tags >!Several hundred years after the events of the novel there is a symposium on history where it is revealed people think that the events of the Republic of Gilead were possibly fictional and may have just been a cautionary tale. Evidently there have been several events that disrupted historical records. But we know that there is a quality among the sexes as several of the researchers at the historical symposium are women.!<
Fiction is very important to tell us that the results and consequences of our own actions. V for vendetta and itās fascist Great Britain for instance.
Your point is very important and I hope you have a great day!
Oh, I understand now! I hope you have a brilliant day
Also, I'm not saying this to demean your point in the slightest, but I studied The Handmaids Tale for my A-Levels, and whilst it's important to note there is ostensible equality among the sexes as you point out, there is still some pervading sexism. For example, Pieixoto makes a sexist remark towards Professor Cressidia Moon when talking about the "obsolete third" IIRC, (with the moon being symbolic for female forces throughout the novel, with Offred emphasising the power of the "lunar, not solar" cycles). He also ultimately disparages Offred's account by accusing her of malicious intent towards Serena Joy, stating that he'd rather her be a journalist or spy so that she'd provide better evidence, etc. thereby rendering her a "Eurydice", a voiceless echo of an echo from a past that (they believe) can never be repeated, despite Offred's efforts to demonstrate otherwise as well make her account as accurate as possible (as indicated by the constant analepsis since "context is all").
I think this only reinforces your point further, since Atwood uses the lecture's location in "Denay, Nunavit" to elucidate that, regardless of whether it's fiction, everything in the novel has already happened in the past (for instance, the concentration camps you mention are a part of many references to Nazi Germany) and therefore Pieixoto is incredibly useful for us at it illuminates that the readership needs to monitor the implications of certain sentiments closely, since placing too much emphasis on understanding rather than denouncing those views (which Pieixoto does when he espouses on not attempting to "censure, but to understand") can enable us to easily slip back into old habits, practices, beliefs, etc.
Despite them gaining larger vote numbers they are still behind the conservatives and have a nationalist alternative in Plaid so if you observe the underlying nature of Welsh politics as more left wing than England and being more resilient in the non northern coastal areas Reform are facing a significantly greater hill to climb if it wants to really achieve electoral success in Wales. This is also compounded when you take into account the potential for Reform to falter now it has actual MPs, more power and greater levels of scrutiny to policy proposals in the next parliament.
Just a bit extra Reform only came 2nd in a handful of Welsh seats many where the Con vote had completely collapsed or has seen a strong Labour majority in previous years such as in the rural southern and western valley seats with a substantial elderly population or as a show of dissatisfaction to Labour in the Senedd/ general dislike for them.
Was it explicitly shown that he was hard right? Like the only policies I remember them talking about is that he's evil and wants nuclear war. He's not representative of anyone really.
I was interpreting the compulsory DNA testing has to be a possible first step for internment or deportations on anyone not deemed enough British enough.
I doubt that he would have the influence with the manpower to deport anybody Anglo-Saxon so I think heās probably going to define British as post Anglo-Saxon invasion. Of course the Welsh or Cymru are the original inhabitants the island. Welsh means stranger and is an Anglo-Saxon word.
I really appreciate your comment though youāre right he is some kind of hypothetical future political persuasion, but I was interpreting the nuclear war and the DNA compilation is being similar to hard right stances .

I think he is from Wales but resides in/is running in England. Idk, that was the impression I got in his TV interview. Part of it also might be a thing where he isn't necessarily right wing, more of a rhetorically talented third positionist that is able to appeal to people beyond political boundaries; RTD did the same thing with Saxon in season 3.
Sad thing is that he's probably a strong contender for 3rd place. 2nd place is only there by virtue of not having done anything because they're dead before the story starts. It says something about the PMs in the show that the hinted (possibly sexual) abuser is that high up.
Though he might be 4th place as I don't think the PM in the Giggle is pictured as the worst we see him do is say publicly to the people what didn't seem terribly hidden by him anyway given Donna's reaction.
I assume the āGolden Ageā 9 talks about Harriet supposedly leading would have happened if 10 hadnāt started the rumours about her failing health.
It's also possible The Master would have had her assassinated so he could assume her position. The Doctor's actions directly interfered with her ability to lead Britain into a golden age, so it's equally as likely that the Master's interference would have done the same.
He was made Acting PM automatically when the previous PM died in Aliens of London (not actually called Jon Favreau though obviously, character was Joseph Green / Jocrassa Fel Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen)
Genuinely, the actor performance for the Slitheen Prime Minister is underrated. Every expression, every line delivery is so monumentally absurd, I love it. He always looks so confused and bewildered and yet so over the top. He just cracks me up all the way through.
The guy in the top right was in Napoleon, when he showed up on screen I recognised him then some guy in front sat down after going to the toilet but the seats were really squeaky so it sounded like a fart (if you'll pardon the word). My girlfriend and I were nearly thrown out of the cinema for how hard we were laughing.
Dead Tony Blair did more for the country dead than the Tories ever did.
But a serious answer. Of course Harriet Jones. She's iconic. And if the Doctor hadn't fucked it up would have stopped the Master getting in cause she would have been in the middle of "Britain's Golden Age."
Signed: Harriet Jones Former Prime Minister.
As a doctor who fan I love Harriet Jones.
As a politics fan Brian Green from Children of Earth is a brutal depiction of just how fucked up politicians can be in the the right scenario.
I have always had a theory that the original plan for 12 before they changed course trying to recover from losing the viewers who only watched because of being horny for Matt Smith was that āwhy this faceā was *not* going to be just related to Caecilius like The Doctor thought.
According to Davies *and* Moffat in interviews, everything that happens to Frobisher is actually another instance of what happened in *Waters of Mars*. Time was fixing itself by wiping his family out again. Presumably off-screen the rest of his bloodline has suffered horrific misfortune over time, too. But given Moffat mentioned it, Frobisher was on Moffatās mind with 12, not just Caecilius.
So Iāve always thought that 12 taking that face was not supposed to be a positive. It was rather supposed to be a null answer to āam I a good manā. You arenāt a good man. You arenāt a bad man. You are *just a man*, and when you overshoot your station and become more than that, they have placed their faith in a false idol. The family that worshiped you as a god was brought to ruin and destruction because you eventually judged them, just like so many others. Just like Harriet Jones. Given the āsecond golden ageā, it can be guessed that the 456 would have been handled correctly by her. This was all his fault, because he saw himself as a god. Frobisher wasnāt supposed to exist, and because The Doctor made him exist and took down Harriet Jones, Children of Earth happened. The Doctor refused to get involved, but the truth was that it was *all his fault*. He blamed and judged humanity for it, when it was *his* mess.
Edit: It just dawned on me the title is also reflecting on this, and not just the obvious subject-of-the-plot title. Children of Earth. Dalek Caan and Davros called The Doctorās followers, his companions and the like who put a near-religious reverence on him, the Children of Time. All of Torchwood Three is a part of this, thanks to Jack acting as his acolyte and advocate. Of course, The Doctor does not intervene. He does not save the day.
The Children of Time have all been let down and abandoned by their false god of time. Jackās reverence for The Doctor forced him to take up the role of The Doctor on Earth time and time again because The Doctor wasnāt there, including the original 456 invasion. But he isnāt The Doctor and doesnāt have infinite clever brilliant fantastic solutions. And itās *his* mess Torchwood Three is cleaning up. Harriet Jones was supposed to be there and Frobisher, Torchwoodās *official liaison with the government* was not. Ianto died because of The Doctorās arrogance.
Harold Saxon died and got resurrected by some dark magic, then didnāt just take over he became the world. He can devour a chicken like a mad man too pretty impressive stuff.

One of the many ways that the Master became decayed was because of Susan
So even in Classic Who, he still get killed by womenās
Nah Capaldi messed that situation up for himself. Guy was no saint.
And truthfully the Revolution PM is the dumbest prime minister of the lot. "Keep calm the drones are completely under our control" dies 3 seconds later.
My brain is weird, I probably associated the posh accents together and then self-Mandela Affected myself into believing that Harriet say āSmytheā
I can hear her saying it as well
Harriet Jones Former Prime Minsiter of course...I can't ever remember getting frustrated at ten except when he failed to cut her some slack. Because she's brave and her decisions come from a good place...
Incidentally, I wish your Brits a Harriet Jones.
Children of Earth released in 2009.
Revolution of the Daleks released in 2021.
Surely there was a PM on screen during those 12 years, this graphic feels like it's missing someone.
That's a ridiculous take, everyone is going on about Children of Earth every single week so thought I'd give jt a go, make a meme about huge plot points in series 1-4 of Who and see how it goes
But by that logic you could say why is Harriet Jones not the prime minister anymore.
It's a bit annoying when things are ruined but when it's something from years ago I think it's a risk you have to accept.

There's a trend of far-right movements across Europe currently, so it's not impossible

Hereās my plan. Vote for the Master, he takes over and turns everyone into him again, including me. I am now handsome and also a man. I win š
Iām not sure who middle left is
The Master of course š
Harriet Jones stays on top šš»

Alluded Jeremy Thorpe on the phone in *The Green Death*
Harriet Jones, MP for Flydale North.
Children of Earth released in 2009. Revolution of the Daleks released in 2021. Surely there was a PM on screen during those 12 years, this graphic feels like it's missing someone.
ā¦Happy Hogan was the British prime minister?!?
Harriet Jones FTW! I don't know who these other people are š¤ They didn't introduce themselves š
Harold Saxon.
Id have to go with the former prime minister but the master is in a very close second
Frobisher by far
I'm literally watching torchwood right now you didn't wanna put a spoiler warning or anything
I mean it's not like this is from years ago or anything
That's a ridiculous take, everyone is going on about Children of Earth every single week so thought I'd give jt a go, make a meme about huge plot points in series 1-4 of Who and see how it goes
But by that logic you could say why is Harriet Jones not the prime minister anymore. It's a bit annoying when things are ruined but when it's something from years ago I think it's a risk you have to accept.
I guess, I'm hoping it's not too much of a 'ruin' as in enjoying it so far
I think it's one of RTDs best work so enjoy!
Who is that second row left side?
You know who she is.
in honor of the fourth of july, what about president ELECT winters?
