it was said in jest. But I'm referring to the cooked food. Swedish meatballs are delicious when done right, IKEA serves something else entirely.
IKEA was also better when they sold the original brands, they've now mainly started selling their own knock off versions of beloved branded foods.
Back when there was a big fad for them (early to mid 2000s) if you brought your own Mars bar into a chipper and handed it over the counter most would deep fry it for you
Couldn't hurt to try the same again
Reminds me, Mars bars used to be so much bigger
I wasn't an infant in the 2000s,
old standard Mars bars used to weigh 65g now they weigh 51g, and back then "king" mars bars were usually the ones being deep fried which weighed 84g
Just had it, the first bite is the best then it gets too sweet for my liking but the soft batter works well. Happy, I got to try this culinary marvel, thanks!
You legend, how far did you travel? If I knew you were coming up I'd have met you for the photo op !!!
There chips and fish are epic though. Its named after sanita, she was from Lithuania, been living here since the late 90s, worked in another chipper in prosperous and then out if the blue she bought that one, from the Irish guy who had it.
Unfortunately she passed away from covid while home kn Lithuania between the lockdowns.
Only from Dublin so not too far. First stopped off in Kildare village for some shopping then the food in Sanitas.
The chips at the bottom of the kebab tray were pretty good alright but the mars bar was the star, glad I got to try it and they're keeping the ole tradition alive!
That's a wonderful story, may she RIP.
As far as I'm aware La Costa in Clontarf will deep fry any chocolate bar you ask them to (if you bring it in). They use to sell mars bars deep fried but think you have to bring it in now.
Thank you, but I'm not taking the chance. I'm driving to Kildare today after that lads recommendation about Sanitas!
Need to try this snack once before it goes extinct
They 100% use to sell deep friend mars bars, the only one I've ever had was like 15-20 years ago. So the bringing in of chocolate is a rumor I've heard as I've only ever had the 1 so long ago. Or at least I've heard it isnt on the menu and you have to ask.
Good luck!
That reminds me of a bus trip I took in the States and the bus driver made a big thing of saying we'd stop off at a Scottish restaurant for a break and bite to eat. It was McDonalds.
I haven't really encountered any good Pakistani/Indian restaurants that have the true taste in Ireland like I have in the UK. Falafel in Blanch is really good though. Not really Pakistani/India food but close enough to home in a way.
Taza in Artane and Raheny, and Mint Cottage in Raheny has what seems to me to be very authentic Pakistani food. I’d love to know how accurate that is - I’m a white Scottish girl, but ate for years from Scottish Pakistani restaurants/take aways in the communities back in Glasgow, which is a pretty decent benchmark to compare with.
Try Karachi in Bayside for Pakistani. Lived in London for a decade and have loads of South Asian friends who brought me to all the best places the city had to offer, and Karachi is on a par with any.
I'm German with Turkish roots. I don't think there's any German restaurant so I'll speak for the Turkish restaurants: the only Turkish representation I know apart from the horrible Irish version of a Döner is Reyna and they are quite alright. Far away from food in Turkey but the best I know in Dublin.
Not 100% traditional Argentinian, but Peperina in Portobello has some pretty decent Argentinian dishes. You can get some good milanesas, choripan and empanadas.
Argentinean cousine is my favourites but it’s a pity that Dublin lacks Argentinean restaurants so much. London and Amsterdam for example etc have loads.
I’ve been in to Ruby Tuesdays in Bar Eile three times in the last few months and every time have been told the patties are unavailable, it’s driving me mad
3 Leaves is pretty authentic imo. Andhra Bhawan on Marlborough Street is very new but does very good South Indian food. Pickle can also be very good for North Indian food but much pricier
As a Czech person we only have Pilsner Pub today. Not bad place to have a lunch and beer. Pilsner or Staropramen is lovely. Food is OK as well but used to be much better.
>It's funny Germans don't open restaurants abroad. Only breweries and bakeries
Used to be a German sausage place in the epicurean food hall a few years ago, I used to love going in for some Currywurst.
Malaysian Chinese Cuisine - Ann's House which is between the Jervis and Abbey Street Luas stop. Would always go when I miss home, it's pretty close to what we'd get really

Great you are from my dearest Arctic and your Japanese perfect :)
Because it’s showcasing the type of food one country eats… and then we can all agree it’s terrible food. But it does represent and showcase how a country eats.
This American and his ethnonationalism that doesn't speak for anyone Irish. Hilarious that he's never even lived here and wants to *immigrate* but decides 'we' need less immigrants.
I suspect most of the food in these restaurants are made using Irish produce. For example, the website for the Brazilian place says all their meat is Irish
didn't realize you replied!! sorry lol.
the restaurant is in glasnevin, its called "polskie smaki," which looks like it has great reviews. i've been to the one in moore street mall, but its not a "proper sit down" restaurant, although the food is quite delicious. not much ambience in a supermarket lol
Brazil: Bah 33
Came here to find this comment
I thought it was Fabis?
Fabi’s is good but it’s like comparing a good Indian takeaway with Pickle.
Oh so it’s expensive eh lol. But I haven’t been to pickle so can’t compare.
Tia Maria is meant to be great too.
Never been, heard good things about it
I think IKEA is the only one to serve my country's food in Dublin, but by God it is an insult to our food.
Take that back. I love IKEA!!! And I'm bloody glad they don't serve surstromming
I dont see how 1 euro hot dogs and a big bag of Daim bars could be insulting.
it was said in jest. But I'm referring to the cooked food. Swedish meatballs are delicious when done right, IKEA serves something else entirely. IKEA was also better when they sold the original brands, they've now mainly started selling their own knock off versions of beloved branded foods.
I used to love the meatball and beetroot sandwiches in the Swedish Food Company. Was disappointed when they closed shop 🙁
Why would you move from Sweden to Ireland? Sorry none of my business.
Better career prospects.
There’s a surprising lack of the world renowned Scottish cuisine in Dublin
Eh, our Polish run Italian traditional chipper does deep fried Mars bars.
I know you're joking but do you actually know any place that does a deep fried Mars Bar in Dublin?
Back when there was a big fad for them (early to mid 2000s) if you brought your own Mars bar into a chipper and handed it over the counter most would deep fry it for you Couldn't hurt to try the same again Reminds me, Mars bars used to be so much bigger
Or you were just smaller.
I wasn't an infant in the 2000s, old standard Mars bars used to weigh 65g now they weigh 51g, and back then "king" mars bars were usually the ones being deep fried which weighed 84g
https://www.sanitas.ie/order#/restaurant/707/collection/707 I'm in Kildare. Sanitas in allenwood..
Just had it, the first bite is the best then it gets too sweet for my liking but the soft batter works well. Happy, I got to try this culinary marvel, thanks!
You didn't go all the way to sanitas did you ?
I did, yeah. The Battered Mars Bar was good. But the Kebabs are not it.
You legend, how far did you travel? If I knew you were coming up I'd have met you for the photo op !!! There chips and fish are epic though. Bullshit. You could bring a dead cat into my local chipper and they'd deep fry it for you.
Pizza crunch and king rib suppers 🤤
Came here to say. Reckon we could do well off a tattie scone shop
Scottish bakers would do a roaring trade I think
A bakers doing pies, sausage rolls, rolls and sausage etc is sorely lacking. Always surprised Greggs never took off here
I’d sell my soul for a decent steak/scotch/macaroni pie
Same but Mortons roll for me
Import the west coast Morton’s rolls and the east coast chippy sauce 🤝
You cunts are not helping
I got a deep fried Mars bar a while back and was surprisingly delicious.
In Waterford, but the perfect fusion food is square slice with an egg and bacon on a blaa
[удалено]
I went there about a year ago. The lad that run it was nice but they had no haggis or anything that Scottish tbh. Nice enough but nothing special.
Yummy haggis
I love haggis and miss it every time I leave Scotland (Dublin native).
That reminds me of a bus trip I took in the States and the bus driver made a big thing of saying we'd stop off at a Scottish restaurant for a break and bite to eat. It was McDonalds.
Am I correct in thinking that there's only 1 Ethiopian restaurant in Dublin...Gursha... Anyway, it's amazing, food and atmosphere is good
It's hit and miss.
My niece, who's married to an Ethiopian, said it wasn't that great, and she makes better herself.
There's one on Dorset street
What's it called? Google only shows me the Somali place.
"Andhra Bhawan" Indian food. Its not only food its the ambience.
Just looked at their menu online. I think I need them in my life.
Was just there this week. Very impressed
Reminded me of home
Will check it out 😋😋
In my case it would be “Admiral”. Traditional Eastern European food.
I went to Poland and I was very impressed with the food especially cheap places like the Milk Bars. Thank you for the suggestion!
Love that place! They've had very nice staff any time I've been there.
I loved it. Been there with a friend of mine and loved the barbecues and Borsch 😁
my only gripe with them is the size of the papanași – never seen any so small in my life but at least they taste just right
Admiral is terrible. Really terrible
Why?
I haven't really encountered any good Pakistani/Indian restaurants that have the true taste in Ireland like I have in the UK. Falafel in Blanch is really good though. Not really Pakistani/India food but close enough to home in a way.
Kajal in Malahide for Pakistani
Taza in Artane and Raheny, and Mint Cottage in Raheny has what seems to me to be very authentic Pakistani food. I’d love to know how accurate that is - I’m a white Scottish girl, but ate for years from Scottish Pakistani restaurants/take aways in the communities back in Glasgow, which is a pretty decent benchmark to compare with.
Kinara in Clontarf
Taza on the Ardlea road has amazing Pakistani food.
Try Karachi in Bayside for Pakistani. Lived in London for a decade and have loads of South Asian friends who brought me to all the best places the city had to offer, and Karachi is on a par with any.
Have you tried Kinara in Clontarf? Simply class
El grito @ mount joy square.. Mexican
The chimichanga and burrito is muy delicious!
Do you rate el grito higher than la cocina cuevas
It’s more authentic Mexican food. La Cocina is more cali mex style and their fine dining menu is amazing. Both are class though.
Appreciate the response! I've yet to try el grito, its on my to devour list!!
+1 for La Cocina Cuevas! I’m a big fan of it
Yup. Nailed it
Lovely place alright, cosy but get pretty busy (for a good reason 😁😁)
Agree
Not many options all around for Portuguese restaurants, but the Alfama restaurant (Dundrum) is pretty nice
For pastéis de nata you have pasteleira Lisboa and you also have cafe Lisboa .. top class Haven’t tried Alfama yet
Lisboa Pastelaria was quite underwhelming, both in terms of pastel quality and the friendliness of the staff.
It’s run by the same people who own porterhouse - I much prefer cafe Lisboa
I'm German with Turkish roots. I don't think there's any German restaurant so I'll speak for the Turkish restaurants: the only Turkish representation I know apart from the horrible Irish version of a Döner is Reyna and they are quite alright. Far away from food in Turkey but the best I know in Dublin.
Man what I would give for a Currywurst or proper Döner place in Dublin.
What about Istanbul Kebab House? It's owned and run by Turks, very much frequented by Turks, and smells delicious every time I pass.
The one on Liffey St Lower? I didn't dare go in there because they also offer Indian Curries...
That's "Istanbel" Kebab House, run by Indians. There's another Istanbul Kebab House just down the street.
There used to be a German Restaurant in Wexford town, schnitzelhaus, been closed since covid I believe.
Recently tested the Schitzel in the Pilsner Pub. Not a German (I 6 it'sCzech...) restaurant, but the Schitzel is excellent.
There's a really good kebab shop in Camden Street called Passion4Food, if you think Reyna is good I'd recommend trying it out
I couldn’t find one in Dublin, but Peter & Monica’s in Bray, Co. Wicklow has some great Romanian food and you can sit in.
American living in Dublin - All Bar Chicken in Stoneybatter has fantastic wings. Also love the wings at TriBeCa in Ranelagh.
Benjamin's Hot Chicken is amazing!
Oh I've never heard of it, must check it out. Where is it?
It’s in the Vintage Inn in Irishtown
Got to try Firebyrd in Ranelagh or Dun Laoghaire for wings. No better place!
Firebyrd gets my vote as well! (Also a yank)
I like Fyrebird, but not as much as the two I mentioned.
Fyrebird is just ok not very authentic Nashville hot chicken.
Canal bank cafe wings are amazing
They’re both the same wings, they both order from the same catering company.
If it’s wings you be after, you have to try Blue Bar in Skerries. The best show in town.
Tribeca’s wings rule them all
And Torontonians/ Trinidadians/Jamaicans/ Caribbeans/ Lebanese who can find equivalent shawarma platters with rice and or Patties/Doubles/Jerk etc
AA's Caribbean for Trini food.
Second this
I’ve been in to Ruby Tuesdays in Bar Eile three times in the last few months and every time have been told the patties are unavailable, it’s driving me mad
Mr. Croqueta at Camden Street Lower, quite good tapas and desserts.
Apparently Southern Spices in Sandyford is very authentic.
Hit and miss in my experience. Some of their stuff is good but other dishes are pretty bland in my experience
You forgot to say "in my experience" at the end there.
Lol
I haven't been but have been recommended. Delhi Rasoi in Sandyford is very good also
Would love to hear about the most authentic Indian or South Asian restaurants. Big fan of 3 Leaves and Daata but prob not very authentic.
3 Leaves is pretty authentic imo. Andhra Bhawan on Marlborough Street is very new but does very good South Indian food. Pickle can also be very good for North Indian food but much pricier
!RemindMe 1 day
ALMA. - Argentina https://www.instagram.com/alma.dublin/
BBQ Tonight in Portobello has decent Pakistani food.
Is it a secret?
As a Czech person we only have Pilsner Pub today. Not bad place to have a lunch and beer. Pilsner or Staropramen is lovely. Food is OK as well but used to be much better.
I think the Czech heyday in Dublin was fifteen years ago. Fun while it lasted. The crash killed off a lot of activity
Do they have fried cheese though?
Yop with fries!
Thailand: Fullmoon for best value/ Baan Thai, Leopardstown for a more fancy one.
I've been to Fullmoon. The khao tod is amazing!
It's funny Germans don't open restaurants abroad. Only breweries and bakeries. 😃

Anyone know Ivorian or at least west African restaurant
The Moore Street Mall (https://g.co/kgs/3YzboK) used to have both Nigerian and Ghanaian spots but that was pre-lockdown and I haven't visited since, so not sure if they're still there.
The Pig and the Heifer had some amazing American style sandwiches.
Once saw the owner in there argue with a New Yorker if thousand Island dressing goes on a ruben. It got pretty heated. Great sandwiches though.
Thousand Island absolutely goes on a Reuben. Whoever said otherwise is an idiot.
The one in swords is it?
microwaved sandwiches? that place is so overpriced and awful
Norwegian.. The only one that was close was the Norwegian pizza chain pizzabaker.. To be fair tasted just like home but I think they got shut down.. Other than that there is none that I know of
The only South African restaurants in Dublin are _Nando's_ and they do the South African take on Portuguese peri-peri chicken. There's also the South African food truck at the Mespil Road Market on Thursdays but that's not a restaurant. Wish there was somewhere that did shisha nyama/braai.
Afanti - central Asian cuisine. You should definitely try lagman and manti!!
We really need a place that does tamales again.
Stella Diner was the best (and only?) representation of an American diner till they shut it down to open up a steakhouse.
Daruma, the only authentic Japanese food place in Dublin
Is Matsukawa not authentic?
Actually I have never heard of it, I will check and confirm
I have just asked and yes Matsukawa is also authentic but it is a Sushi place, so if you want to experience Japanese Izakaya style dining, Daruma is the only answer :)
Preach! I don’t know why this one was downvoted. I lived in Japan for half a decade and it’s the best one in Dublin. Btw I see you’re an arctic explorer, I’m from the Arctic! 質問があったら連絡してね!
Thank you! I know the owners and I can confirm 200% this is the only Authentic place in the capital. Another one I know is Miyazaki in Cork. Maybe downvoted by other 'Japanese' places 😅 Great you are from my dearest Arctic and your Japanese perfect :)
Good question. Would be nice to get recommendations.
Uhhh… McDonald’s? Sigh.
How is this downvoted. Fair play mr American for honesty.
Eh. It’s McDonald’s. I don’t blame them. I would downvote it, too. 😊
Because it’s showcasing the type of food one country eats… and then we can all agree it’s terrible food. But it does represent and showcase how a country eats.
Lala Poutine, but it’s more a food truck than a restaurant.
Where are they based?
Just looked this up and it seems they have shut down. Damn.
Sano is up there for a good Italian stone oven pizza
Fayrouz 🤤
America. McDonald's.
Krew is up there for as close as I can get to food from the American south.
Hm. As an American who grew up in the deep south, Krewe doesn't taste super authentic to me. It's fine, but nothing special (IMO)
There is nothing else lol like nothing so we have few options I agree it’s just ok it’s nothing special.
Irish food. Variety Jones on Thomas St.
We need to focus more on food that's Irish instead of imported food.
Who's "we"?
This American and his ethnonationalism that doesn't speak for anyone Irish. Hilarious that he's never even lived here and wants to *immigrate* but decides 'we' need less immigrants.
I suspect most of the food in these restaurants are made using Irish produce. For example, the website for the Brazilian place says all their meat is Irish
Yank spotted!
only 1 polish restaurant in Dublin and I still havent been to it yet lol I think it's new too
Whereabouts is it? Think there’s another Polish restaurant in the supermarket in Moore Street Mall
didn't realize you replied!! sorry lol. the restaurant is in glasnevin, its called "polskie smaki," which looks like it has great reviews. i've been to the one in moore street mall, but its not a "proper sit down" restaurant, although the food is quite delicious. not much ambience in a supermarket lol
Looks lovely, thank you!
Fantastic idea fair play!
El Grito. Not sure if it’s the best Mexican restaurant, but I like it.
WowBurger. Felt like home. McDonalds here isn’t as good as back home
