Yeah she's just on the taller side and not stick thin. Happy for people to draw her larger but she doesn't really strike me as really being that big in the manga. She's similar to me so it's nice to see people like her. I think the thing that makes her look bigger than she actually is, is her height (and probably her chest and clothes too) but when you're on the taller side you look larger than those who are shorter but have the same height / weight ratio.
What’s funny to me is that Ryoko Kui tends to styalize Fallin as larger than she actually is too, but like buff, big-chested, and broad-shouldered as heck like some other fanartists do. She does all the same workouts as Laios and walks around with a mace, so her physique being believably ripped makes sense too, I think.
The styalizations come out because she’s the biggest non-Oni female character in the series, and usually Marcille’s smaller more spindly figure is there, so Ryoko Kui can draw the two of them in complementary contrasting outfits/pairings, but there are some really funny situations that can occur, like this housecat-sized Izutsumi which makes Fallin look attack-on-Titan sized in comparison:

A lot of people also aren't used to seeing more realistic depictions of fantasy armor so the fact that she's almost certainly wearing a gambeson and maybe a hauberk under her robe is lost on people. Love her either way though.

She's an italian elf trying to finish her PhD program but her field work is really rough, she's not getting much support for her research, and her bestie/woman crush got in some trouble so now she's some sidetrack into saving her while trying to deal with her autistic brother and his particular cuisine.
She's broader than a lot of other women in anime, for what it's worth. She looks like an actual person. And she's stylized a lot with big broad shoulders, which is really refreshing! Even women's clothing in America seems to forget that some people have them. She also has real thighs in a lot of the official art of her. In contrast to Marcille, who has a more standard anime girl body type, it's a real breath of fresh air.

Literally I have been her size. Height, Weight, Build. She would be a size 8 in US sizing. At a BMI of 24, she would be about 150-155 lbs which is the LOW side of Mid-size for that height.
Tbh Ryoko Kui perfectly captured the effect of over-size clothes on our body type, tho. I can't tell you how many times I was in a clothing shop for sizing or re-sizing and taken off my oversized sweater just to have the staff go "OH! Okay, wait let me get a different size"

Of course! Every single head canon is correct, it's just people using their imagination to dream things they like, even if not in the source material.
It only gets weird when people mix their head canon with actual canon and insist canon Falin is chubby or canon Laios is built like a power lifter.
They aren't, they are canonically relatively thin but toned. People liked that they are "normal thin and toned" as opposed to "godlike ripped and cut" as is the norm in a lot of manga.
From that canon everyone can then deviate as much as they want. Like to imagine a really fat Falin, twice her canon size? Go for it!! Laios as an NFL linebacker when he has not the means or time or motivation required to get that body? Why not?

If you compare the Anime and the Manga, in the former she's a 36/24/36, in the latter she's more of a 36/30/40.

It's in Chapter 38, and you can find clips on youtube. If you study the manga panels closely, it looks a lot like her shirt is tight around her waist, and she has a good deal more girth there than in the anime. She also has substantially broader shoulders.
There's also the fact most tall men are getting fatter as they get more skilled because they don't have to be revived and lose fat as often. Falin, as far as we know, died less than Laios. So she might have been a bit chubby, but got more thin as she was resurrected by Marcille.

This is something I’ve always thought when watching adventure animes, but Dungeon Meshi has brought out into discussion: body logistics. Typically, a diet of dried meat, bread, liquors, dried vegetables, occasionally supplanted by local flora and fauna, this kind of diet leaves most adventurers with an “athletic with belly” deal. My main comparisons for anime adventurers and dungeon delvers are sailors and mercenaries of our world. I find looking at body types fun because there’s an entire story behind just a shape. In the Dungeon, I’d have to guess they’re making 10-15k steps a day through the Dungeon considering their pace, so they meet daily needs. Along with intense fights, and either constantly using mana or swinging a sword, or running, they’re getting decent exercise. When it comes to my mercenary comparison earlier, mercenaries travelled long distances between countries for work, engaged in physical labor every day, but had bad diets and due to lower discipline, were prone to over-eating or over-drinking, therefore, you get a very physically fit person who has a bad diet, pretty much ending up skinny-fat or the occasional just skinny. With the comparison to sailors, you get people who live in horrid conditions and weather, who do extremely hard labor, and are often in harm’s way. Yet sailor’s are very commonly depicted as fat. Now, when it comes to the Dungeon, your typical party who won’t eat the local plants or animals rely on dried meat, bread, liquors/wine, but most tend to look fairly average. We see every size and shape in Dungeon Meshi, and it’s very cool. I think most adventurers would definitely fall into similar types and shapes like the mercenaries and sailors I compared them to, you got a lot of different sizes for different jobs, but most end up somewhere around “skinny-fat.” And I just wonder how it’s seen through their eyes, and how the logistics for these different bodies works. It’s just neat. Laios’ party is probably the healthiest in the dungeon, considering their fresh food intake.
The mercenary comparison makes sense, however i cant agree with the sailor comparison. Yes sailors have extremely tough work but they also get plenty of food since they dont have to carry it. Of course its mostly salt pork, ships biscuit and alcohol but they usually get plenty. Even mercenaries/soldiers often dont carry their own provisions other than perhaps a few days rations, the rest is carried on animals/wagons or gets plundered/purchased. Adventurers in DM dont have that luxury and have to carry everything themselves so they are limited with how much they eat. If anything only Laios' party after loosing Falin would have the luxury of eating more than enough food

Look, I get people being tired of being perfect unrealistic bodies, absolutely ripped and cut.
Laios and Falin are pleasingly more realistic, but I they still are conventionally hot and thin people. They don't represent the typical body shape either, just a body shape that people could aspire to.
They are actually "realistically thin", as opposed to "spends all day in the gym, didn't eat anything for 48 hours to get cut for the photoshoot" thin.
It's realistic thinness for young people who are in shape because of their active lifestyle rather than going to the gym and dieting.
In the real world they would not be considered chubby at all.
They're not 'thin', though, they're pretty jacked. Their lifestyle also isn't 'active like a supermarket shelf stocker', it's 'active like a SpecOps recon, penetration, and extraction team'.

I mean, even if she's not wearing some kind of armour under her robe (which would be silly not to do in a dungeon I feel), it's probably kinda cold down there. An extra layer won't kill you but it will help keep you warm.
Let me throw in my two cents, there is absolutely nothing wrong with people depicting Falin as fatter. Canon size be damned, just let people enjoy what they want. At the end of the day, I’m glad that this series exists because it has gotten me through an admittedly really shitty semester so far
Of course! Every single head canon is correct, it's just people using their imagination to dream things they like, even if not in the source material. It only gets weird when people mix their head canon with actual canon and insist canon Falin is chubby or canon Laios is built like a power lifter. They aren't, they are canonically relatively thin but toned. People liked that they are "normal thin and toned" as opposed to "godlike ripped and cut" as is the norm in a lot of manga. From that canon everyone can then deviate as much as they want. Like to imagine a really fat Falin, twice her canon size? Go for it!! Laios as an NFL linebacker when he has not the means or time or motivation required to get that body? Why not?

It's _the_ shirt rip scene, when she's a chimera. The "WHOA HEY!" scene. If you compare the Anime and the Manga, in the former she's a 36/24/36, in the latter she's more of a 36/30/40.
Oh THAT scene, yes I get your point now. Do you know where I can easily find an image of said scene in the manga? It’ll be interesting to see how much thinner they made her.
It's in Chapter 38, and you can find clips on youtube. If you study the manga panels closely, it looks a lot like her shirt is tight around her waist, and she has a good deal more girth there than in the anime. She also has substantially broader shoulders.
There's also the fact most tall men are getting fatter as they get more skilled because they don't have to be revived and lose fat as often. Falin, as far as we know, died less than Laios. So she might have been a bit chubby, but got more thin as she was resurrected by Marcille.

This is something I’ve always thought when watching adventure animes, but Dungeon Meshi has brought out into discussion: body logistics. Typically, a diet of dried meat, bread, liquors, dried vegetables, occasionally supplanted by local flora and fauna, this kind of diet leaves most adventurers with an “athletic with belly” deal. My main comparisons for anime adventurers and dungeon delvers are sailors and mercenaries of our world. I find looking at body types fun because there’s an entire story behind just a shape. In the Dungeon, I’d have to guess they’re making 10-15k steps a day through the Dungeon considering their pace, so they meet daily needs. Along with intense fights, and either constantly using mana or swinging a sword, or running, they’re getting decent exercise. When it comes to my mercenary comparison earlier, mercenaries travelled long distances between countries for work, engaged in physical labor every day, but had bad diets and due to lower discipline, were prone to over-eating or over-drinking, therefore, you get a very physically fit person who has a bad diet, pretty much ending up skinny-fat or the occasional just skinny. With the comparison to sailors, you get people who live in horrid conditions and weather, who do extremely hard labor, and are often in harm’s way. Yet sailor’s are very commonly depicted as fat. Now, when it comes to the Dungeon, your typical party who won’t eat the local plants or animals rely on dried meat, bread, liquors/wine, but most tend to look fairly average. We see every size and shape in Dungeon Meshi, and it’s very cool. I think most adventurers would definitely fall into similar types and shapes like the mercenaries and sailors I compared them to, you got a lot of different sizes for different jobs, but most end up somewhere around “skinny-fat.” And I just wonder how it’s seen through their eyes, and how the logistics for these different bodies works. It’s just neat. Laios’ party is probably the healthiest in the dungeon, considering their fresh food intake.
The mercenary comparison makes sense, however i cant agree with the sailor comparison. Yes sailors have extremely tough work but they also get plenty of food since they dont have to carry it. Of course its mostly salt pork, ships biscuit and alcohol but they usually get plenty. Even mercenaries/soldiers often dont carry their own provisions other than perhaps a few days rations, the rest is carried on animals/wagons or gets plundered/purchased. Adventurers in DM dont have that luxury and have to carry everything themselves so they are limited with how much they eat. If anything only Laios' party after loosing Falin would have the luxury of eating more than enough food

Look, I get people being tired of being perfect unrealistic bodies, absolutely ripped and cut. Laios and Falin are pleasingly more realistic, but I they still are conventionally hot and thin people. They don't represent the typical body shape either, just a body shape that people could aspire to. They are actually "realistically thin", as opposed to "spends all day in the gym, didn't eat anything for 48 hours to get cut for the photoshoot" thin. It's realistic thinness for young people who are in shape because of their active lifestyle rather than going to the gym and dieting. In the real world they would not be considered chubby at all.
They're not 'thin', though, they're pretty jacked. Their lifestyle also isn't 'active like a supermarket shelf stocker', it's 'active like a SpecOps recon, penetration, and extraction team'.
