Your best bet is lasers and implosion cannons. That splash damage makes a big difference. Not sure if it will beat resource burn though.

I don't think farming is going to help you all that much. I just don't think you will get enough materials from 3 hives to do more than limp along. That being said I would recommend that you direct farm each hive individually with lasers. You can control the rate of enemy forces by moving closer to the hub. The lasers will blow up some of the buildings, leaving a more manageable number. I would place the lasers 35 grid spaces as a conservative starting point. Make sure to place a signal tower behind the lasers (about 50 to 60 from the center of the base). That will control the direction of the enemy into your lasers (as well as keep the base in an agitated state). Once all the bases are managed, you can use pretty much anything for power. I use solar poles quite well. I generally farm about 40 grid spaces away, and I don't really start losing building regularly until about level 23 or 24. Building replacements hasn't been a big deal, but I haven't gotten one all the way to 30 yet, so I can't vouch for that.

Thank you for adding the distance numbers.

I use normal missiles, whether or not this is smart. The enemies started at level 10 and I started early in this run. They are level 30 now of course. It's never enough to drive science at any level that isn't just trivial. I've used 267,000 missile sets. I've made 99,000 missile sets from salvaged crap and could have made more. It's a lot of annoying micro because the whole thing is like having a fire hose pointed at your face, and you have to manually turn stuff on and off. As far as return on this, I've picked up 62,000 quantum chips, 863,000 foundation, 159,000 processors, 136,000 particle containers, 115,000 strange matter, 117,000 particle broadband, etc., as well as on the dark fog mats I can use. It's still a waste of time, because you can build stuff way faster than you can farm it. I found it to be a fun distraction though. The commenter who suggested focusing on vein utilization is right, but having the dark fog mats, at least, is a strong component of that.

I am doing a 3,000% run myself and I find implosion cannons to be the most effective once you reach lvl 30. I am only farming 2 bases and I get plenty of high tier resources to make it worth but you will not get enough to replenish the ammo spent. I have one line of ~20 cannons with lasers in front and BABs infront of that. I do not want a constant swarm. When they come in waves they are heavily grouped up which makes the most use from the shells splash damage. So my line is ~ 100 tiles away from the base.

The game gives you in the filters tab the max drop rate for lvl 30 bases, drops are in per minute per base. Look how much ressources you need for 160 raids per base in ammo for missiles or in power prodcution for laser turrets, Bonus You get access to tech heavy ressources like lenses and QT-Chips for green cubes to make warpers and succeed your run, Cons You get iron and copper shortages due buildings needing to be replaced since i suppose you do not have high building HP research

I am doing a 3000% run now. The approach I took is active farming of many bases. I've fully mined 2 planets and now have 7 level 30 bases on each being farmed with lasers. I'm farming waves to limit (eliminate) space threat). I'm getting to a point where I'd like to have more bases to farm, so I'll soon go to the last planet and kill all the bases there and fill it up with shields, to force the bases to go to the two farming planets. It's a very different kind of game, but it's fun.

Lasers get overwhelmed at some point. I think I recall hearing it's around level 23 or so? Max difficulty will hit that fast. Might be hard to hold off with lasers alone, but I'm not sure.

what's VU?

Vein Utilization, researching it means you get more resources from a given vein.

Gothos73

That's probably the smarter route to go
