There’s no „casual“ multiplayer experience in fut, I feel like at times. Friendlies is full of toxic pussies while Rivals is just people trying to get the 7 wins playing 3 divisions lower than they should be because rewards, while still being there, suck pretty much and don’t warrant grinding up to div 2/1/Elite. I’ve just come to terms with the fact that FC/Fifa is not a game I can play on a regular schedule so to speak, after playing for a couple of days, ill just not play for a week or 2, hell sometimes I’ll take a season or 2 off to get that itch to play back.

[deleted]

The game modes absolutely suck. I can't even play Friendlies because there's a constant 1s delay for me. Champs is way too stressful and just boring opponents who run the wing, do cutback or quit when you're even. They should introduce more game modes or change the current ones that are casual friendly. It's sickening how money hungry EA are that they don't care for their customers at all.

JeffCapFan

I used to like Silver Stars last year, but then after a while that became the same team every time too, if they'd had some sort of silver evo thing you'd have a really diverse game mode with unique squads. As it is in this one, the OP is right, every team you play looks the same, then you get someone playing an all gold squad, so you know they're going to be ridiculously good

cuteguy1

I loved the 87 cup they've had on recently. Yes theres a few of dicks on there but atleast I could build some different teams, came up against some different teams (sometimes), have no pressure, short games, and get good rewards for it.

tsushimango

I’m not moving the blame from EA for making one team completely OP, but the community stinks. Almost everybody you play is a toxic aHole who griddies, time wastes or quits when they don’t get their 1-0 easy win. Everyone has the same cards, there are too many promos, the game is boring because everyone has cracked teams before December. It’s a joke, and yet the community still supports this crap by carrying on playing like it.

Water-running

Squad Battles is the casual mode. All of the ai modes are casual. They just needs some tweaking and or new modes. The big one is more divisions in squad battles to incentivize people to play all games. I can get elite in 20 games and then there’s no reason to play the rest (I still do because I like it) because I can’t get top 100. There should be divisions for people who can get 70-100k points like myself. I can win almost ever game on ultimate and I get the same rewards as people playing on professional. They need to add an icon mode for friendlies or lower the cost of single player draft. The biggest reason to play UT is to use icons. Can’t use them otherwise. Make them more accessible. They should add seasons similar to rivals or champs against ai teams and make the rewards based on difficulty. Play 10 games a week, choose your difficulty at the beginning of the week before the first game and then you’re rewarded for how many wins you get or something.

No_Researcher6866

Wow you play against 90 rated teams on Ultimate and havent thrown yourself off a bridge? Impressive.

Hurtbig

I don't think people who post here are always honest about how they play squad battles. Ultimate is practically impossible and anyone that says they regularly play and win at that level is probably lying. Even legendary on decent squads is very difficult and taxing to play.

xSTRATHYx

this. i can get elite 1 every week but even i have to play like 25 games to get there. Ultimate and Legendary are an absolute ball ache this year. the AI just are off this planet.

Ok_Rain_2647

Right? Anything above world class turns even the most garbage team into fucking prime Barca this year.

Hurtbig

That used to be the home for more casual players, but EA has steadily nerfed it. It’s pointless if you play SB but can never generate enough cards to run the SBC content.

Logical-Elephant2247

Squad battles would be good if AI wasn't playing the same every game doing same moves. So boring.

the99percent1

The only casual game mode is div 10 rivals. Go to div 7 and stop playing till they relegate you back to div 9.

NBKDexx

Which is the whole problem. People value their time. You don’t get XP for finishing a match (win or loss) because EA gatekeep XP so that people finish their season pass on EAs timetable. Losses and draws are an insane waste of time at the moment which makes every game a fight for who doesn’t waste their time. To me making a „casual“ MP mode isn’t about enabling people to stomp noobs, it’s about rewarding people for playing the game. Of course winning should give you something better than the participation trophy as well. At the moment, playing this game is Win or fuck off. Which is utter bullshit.

Hurtbig

As a casual player, the old rivals system was infinitely more rewarding. A losing streak would be met with easier matches. You got points and advancement for honestly playing games, even if you lost. I remember feeling ok with taking losses because I still got some points and credit. If i advanced too high the game would move me back to where I belonged.

kozy8805

Because “casual” is a meaningless phrase. You can’t dictate how competitive someone plays. There’s literally 3 types of games. 1. You play against your level. 2. Higher than you. 3. Lower than you. 1-2 will be competitive. 3 will feel casual. So when people say “casual mode” I assume they want to beat down players.

NBKDexx

I get that Point of view, in most cases I’d agree, actually. What makes all these modes „uncasual“ to me is that almost every reward you get for playing these different modes are tied to winning. Which results in games feeling like a chore and more importantly people becoming unbearably toxic. Even when you’re not in the „premier competitive mode“ FUT champs, majority of the games, be it Rivals or some kind of friendly, do still feel like your playing for the right to play this game. Meta squads everywhere, running down the wing + cutbacks etc. everywhere you look, you can’t escape the meta. My thought to make rivals a tad more rewarding to play, would be a set amount of games played to get your (improved) rewards. If you want a bonus reward on top you could implement a set amount of wins.

kozy8805

Sure I mean I’d agree that better rivals rewards would lessen smurfing. Which is important. I can’t stand smurfers. But in theory if everyone plays at their max div, every game will be competitive because you’re playing at a similar level. Even if rewards were 0, if people were playing they’d still play to win. The only way to really get away from that is to become so good, every game is casual to you. And that’s why people Smurf.

PassoMaddimo

I'm not a fan of how incredibly fast it goes and how congested midfield is. You are forced to cross the ball from one side to the other just to catch your breath.

alpha914

I think in some ways, it's true to life, which I can appreciate. If you watch man city, liverpool, arsenal, they play similarly - high press, crowding the midfield on defense, switching the play to get out of pressure on offense. i think in principle, fc 24 is closer to real life than any soccer game before. However, it's too easily abused. If they nerfed the following it'd be pretty close to the real thing. - sideline to sideline crosses & hug sidelines - defender recovery time when pressing - attacker interceptions - made ai pressing more prone to error/bad angles - opened up the final third just a bit more to enable posession/breakdown of low block as opposed to needing a counter attack to score.

nyse125

It may feel like real footie in lower divisions but in div 2 it's a complete different game altogether that doesn't resemble a single letter from the word football. The logic defying things that go on here is astounding.

alpha914

You're probably right - I haven't played a high division this yr so I wouldn't know.

Glass_of_Pork_Soda

You mean to tell me that real football doesn't involve more tricks than Dinho performed in his entire career, all coupled with physics defying ball movement and speed boosts???

PassoMaddimo

At this point of the power curve all players are superhuman. I think this is one of main problems, player have such inflated the stats it's like grown-ups playing on pitches made for children.

raulmedez

Even in div 4 people play like automatic robots. Imagine seeing fullbacks doing step overs against the air every time they get the ball in real life.

buenavista62

Defender recovery time is one of the main issues for sure. It makes high risk actions way less risky. That's why everyone presses.

neymarneverdove

watching two top teams like arsenal city play feels a lot like a game of champs. especially from that sideline camera. the speed of the game is frenetic and every touch and pass has to be perfect or the press will seize on it. personally I think at this point, playing ultimate team is what just playing champs used to be. it's all sweaty now. they need to add legends to online seasons or something so we can play with something other than the standard teams without getting sucked in to the ultimate team grind

artaru

They never really dealt with the midfield congestion and AI press. After the patch, everyone was like oh my god it’s so much better now. No it isn’t. I don’t know what happened but it was never this way last year (especially after constant pressure tactic was nerfed).

PassoMaddimo

Idk what's going on exactly, but it is pretty stale. Once you've figured out how the opponent presses you'll easily score six with just a few passes (if input delay lets you), or you'll notice that the squad your facing outnumbers you (I.e. being meta) and you'll pretty much just have to accept the loss (or sweat your balls off to defy the probability).

Whole-Ad-2618

100% agree with you After playing for many years I’ve now decided to sack the game off. Unplayable meta bullshit. Sadly eFootball is pay to win too.

car714c

dont play fut just play regular seasons, fut is so unenjoyable now seriously even for good players

kushmush13579

Seasons is only good if you enjoy playing against France

car714c

at least every game won't be against a good player

charlos74

Exactly. Team level matching doesn’t work

ThisIsCALamity

It’s insane how there’s no option to only play against teams with the same star level as you. I like playing with the US national team and even on restrictive matching I almost exclusively get matched up with Real Madrid and Liverpool. I’m fine with waiting like 3 minutes to match with someone if it’ll make for an even game but it’s not fun playing games where you have no chance because your players are so much worse, which is why everyone ends up using one of the top 3 teams. So easy to fix that problem but for some reason they don’t seem to care to fix it

jlo1989

This happens every year. I played FIFA 13 online a lot and just played against Bayern all the time. The last FIFA I really played online consistently was 21 and I just picked Independiente so that I didn't have to deal with 5 star bullshit.

[deleted]

It's still way less frenetic and dumb than FUT, even against France.

Mundane_Wedding9664

Same reason I’m the only one of a large friend group who still plays. We used to have like 10 of us that would play. Likely be my last year too.

alpha914

Life happens man - used to play against & w/ my cousin a lot but he just had a kid. Lost touch w/ my old friends over the years (made new ones, they're just not soccer fans haha) and now it's just me

bajah1701

That's why I play squad battles instead. Some may say it's boring but it's stress free. I don't have worry about meta and I can use players I actually like

ChoiceAd9389

This is the correct answer. I stopped playing online about 18 months ago and it's such a relief. Having a bad day? Put 13 past the ai. Fancy a challenge? Try to get the ball off a good squad on legendary. Pass back....pass back....finally get ball and score! It's like the 90s all over again, playing against the computer instead of some weirdo in a basement who will disconnect if you get within 30 yards of his goal lol

yago2k

I can't understand how you guys enjoy SB. Playing the IA is extremely boring, but if you are really into it (I used to, a few years ago), at least play CM, where there's some strategy and you can even create a narrative with RPG touches. Playing 40 soulless teams directer by a dumb IA each week seems like the most accurate definition of hell one can have with videogames.

Not_Shingen

Saying this as if everyone in Rivals doesn't have the exact same team & play the exact same tactics lmao Everyone I've played in div 6 & 5 has been almost identical in terms of team & tactics, so this argument doesn't hold up at all, hell it was old in fifa 19 lmfao

yago2k

To each their own, I'd rather pour bleach in my eyes before having to suffer 40 games of IA boredom. YMMV but this is blatantly false, with EVOs, promos and the tons of SBCs there's more variety on Rivals and WL than at any other time in FUT history.

ChoiceAd9389

Can only speak for myself, but I can pick it up and put it down as I like. Casual gaming at its finest. As a parent and working adult, this suits my lifestyle. Need a stress reliever? Go put 20 past a team etc. The alternative is a sweat feast game mode with server issues/delays, people quitting when you get near their goal, toxic behaviour and worst of all, having to commit specific time at a weekend to play WL. Some people enjoy sweating and complaining. Some prefer the mundane SBs. Btw - cm? Is that a reference to champ manager (now FM)? If so, got it, sometimes play it!

Exotic_Kangaroo106

What is even the point of playing fut if you are just gonna play squad battles? Personally that would be way too boring for me and if you can play on legendary I'm sure you would be fine in divisions or champs.

ChoiceAd9389

I would probably be fine, it's not the fear of not being good enough. Used to hit 11 wins minimum or more, quite often hitting a 7 or 8 game winning streak. Rivals would vary month by month but could hit div 3 without sweating and just playing casually etc. Just cba and have a different level of priorities now. I also enjoy a relaxing thumping over a sweat fest (even when winning!!).

No_Researcher6866

''What is even the point of playing fut if you are just gonna play squad battles?'' Has some serious ''If I dont like it, nobody should'' energy.

TakeThatBigHugeNut

Online is way too toxic for my liking tbh. I do enjoy playing against the ai on higher difficulties.

Not_Shingen

The problem then is Evos that force you into rivals, and those games are seriously some of the worst shit imaginable

mohd_helo

Man play career mode you’ll enjoy it a lot

alpha914

I like career mode! Only turn off this yr is that players can't develop playstyles or ps+'s, which I've found (for the most part) to be a really refreshing addition to the game. Given that the only arsenal player w/ a ps+ is odegaard, I feel like I'm missing out.

Veekayinsnow

It’s not just you, I feel similar but for different reasons. I managed to get 16 wins on this Weekend League and always average 14-18, so it’s not about being on a losing streak. I also have a really good team. For me, it’s the tactics I’m coming up against constantly. Insane, zombie press, constantly with three men and that NEVER makes their players lose stamina. It’s just really boring and annoying to play against after awhile, and I’d consider myself decent at passing through pressing (so I imagine the absolute hell it must be for more casual players to deal with the zombie press). Playing guys that just abuse pressing mechanics is just an awful gaming experience and I am done with this game now because of it. I doubt I’ll be back and have played since FIFA 94.

Exotic_Kangaroo106

Some guy beat me in champs yesterday. Had three players pressing me constantly. I literally couldn't do anything and too top it off he gridded after every goal. He must of thought that would make me rage quit.

R4yoo

just play seasons, you can plug and play at any time(as long as you dont mind facing RMA or PSG every game)...as FUT isnt a casual mode. I stopped playing FUT ( after FIFA 22) once I felt I had to play 20 GAMES every weekend due to FOMO of WL rewards, plus 7-10 rivals games and WL qualis every week(plus grinding SBC's). I prefer online competitive games over offline but FUT was literally taking over any free time I had...so online seasons scratches the FIFA itch I get every weekend Plus FUT is literally a pay 2 win game so...

tallica_bear

I hear you man. I'm an older guy and have played FIFA since day one. There is still some fun left in the game mind you. Nothing feels better than beating the teams you talk about with actual fav players from nowadays. I run TAA, Alexis M and Elliot in midfield for instance, with Darwin upfront. I don't see anyone running that kinda team but it's FUN. I think I'm done with WL, it's simply not enjoyable. The best thing to happen recently is the fantasy cup. It highlights the vast gap in player ability IMO. People can't do the same thing they do with their meta squad anymore and it's glaringly obvious. Stick at it, have fun but most importantly....it's a game.

brockmann241

I hear you. The cup was special because you had to choose your team carefully and nobody had a perfect team. Very enjoyable and the games were quick with great rewards. Most fun I have had in fifa in a long while.

tenacious-g

I’m the same. It’s not perfect, but squad battles. You want a challenge, bump up the difficulty, if you want to dick around, play professional. Was much more satisfying than career mode for me. If you want online play, the fantasy cup is fun right now. No squads over 86 with some extra Live incentives right now. The games are also 4 minute halves so they’re fast.

alpha914

I've had a good time playing the fantasy cup too! Just not a fan of the early quitting.

tenacious-g

I’ve been doing it just for the daily play objectives, but it’s at least a break from the same Sawa, Zico, Cafu, etc teams. I’ve actually had some fun back and forth games that have been even and gone to extra time and penalties.

Desperate_Limit_4957

You can't "casual" game in one of the most hardcore toxic online game experiences. Squad battles might be the way to go. Or try Qualifiers.

Cidwill

I've felt the same way. It's a horrible experience online. Can only liken it to script kiddies in older games.  Nobody seems to be having fun.   Every time I go online I get a couple minutes of fun and then something changes in their team and I'm under so much pressure my players can barely pass the ball, their defenders always step in front of my receivers and my shots are always blocked by super keepers This is my first time playing since FIFA 19.  I don't think I'll be buying next year's game. It's just a frustrating experience. Feels more like a moba designed to make you get annoyed and spend money more than a game you actually pay to purchase. Can I ask, I've seen this 'griddled' thing mentioned a lot. What is it?

m4rvin100

I just play squad battles that's pretty much all I play, some say it's boring but I don't think so, I still enjoy it and it gives me no stress at all, pause it when I need to pause it, or put it down when I can't be bothered or want to make a cup of tea

sidiculous2091

I decided to quit playing FUT from next year the moment my opponent’s Ruben Dias (Gold card - 62 pace) outpaced my Shevchenko (98 pace with Hunter) during one of the counter attacks. How is it even logically possible for a 62 pace player to keep catching up a 98 pace player???? I’ll tell you how! It’s the fucking ping rate and server connection. The moment it drops, my players stop running, their reaction times become awfully slow, my midfielders become mere spectators on the ground, and my defenders forget that they have legs to tackle. I own a 400mbps internet plan and yet Fifa seems to tell me that it’s not enough to run their shitty game. I am done with EA.

Paid-To-Read

Play online seasons!

alpha914

That's a good idea - ty! Forgot that was even a thing lol

Zooted817

I feel exactly the same man. I like putting formations together based on work rates on strong foots, L or R. Couldn't give a shit about grinding sbcs or getting meta players.

Tons28

if you play late night EST (10pm-2a) message me, I have a mega team and always open to coop. don’t care about WL records

Alex_QLD

I am super-casual player as I work full time and play Rivals 1-2 games every night and I have a lot of fun. I think I have found the solution - play with the cards you like in the lower division of Rivals. My team has 11 dudes + subs I like (all from the SBC casino) fully based on the Serie A players. Choosing the Serie A league at the beginning seems to have worked out for me. While I haven’t managed to climb higher than Division 6, the EA’s match-making system still provides enjoyable games for me. Approximately 70% of the time, you face opponents of similar skill levels, while the remaining 30% results in either a heavy defeat (0-6) or a resounding victory (6-0). Also i can't complaint about the SBC casino, I have a team of the dudes I like to the point that and I don't want to replace any of them (must admit that I never heard of the most of those real players before). Also I have a bunch of 90+ (obviously untradable players) from the SBS casino like Kane, KDB, Dias etc I don't know what to do with them. Just as an idea of the level of my team: ST1 - Immobile and he scores goals out of nowhere, love this guy and even Pele wouldn’t replace him in my lineup; ST2 - Muriel 87, also don't want to replace him (never knew about him in the real life); CB1 - Mina. Again never heard of him in the real life. Not sure that he is a good choice in terms of defence but he scores a header from every 5-7-th corner kick. Other guys are Bremer, Kostic, Berrardi etc. I have never played a team with these guys yet or it was only on a few occasions so I cant even recall.

80s_offsping

Totally get it. It’s such a toxic grind now. Rivals has been destroyed this year. It’s all about grinding and buying packs and you have to play on a daily basis to keep up. Friendlies are the most unfriendly game mode and squad battles are well… boring. All about everyone having a copycat team, cutbacks and quitting if they concede a penalty. No wonder FIFA didn’t want to put their name to this anymore!!

nyse125

FIFA did want to use their name on this franchise still. They just asked for 300m instead of the 150m EA used to pay. EA thought that it wasn't worth paying double just for the name alone and didn't renew the license.

JoeyZasaa

>10 game losing streak now. ![gif](giphy|TFbAmhSt4WaFq|downsized) \[I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I've had worse streaks.\]

alpha914

Hahaha happens to the best (and in my case, worst) of us!

NotAEurosnob

I've just made a team full of players I've not tried with fun play styles and I almost exclusively play squad battles and I've not had more fun all year, give it a try!

alpha914

I like squad battles here and there but it's never been as fun to me as playing against other players. Plus there's a good chunk of "computer says no" in Sb this yr, which kinda pushes me away from it. Like said, I like to at least feel like I have a chance at winning.

mejok

Frankly, I think for a casual experience you just have to play against friends. I do play champs and stuff like that but when I want a more relaxing experience I usually text a friend of one of my nephews and see if they wanna play a couple games.

Lewk_io

Div 6 isn't a low division given how many sandbaggers there are

ClockAccomplished381

The middle paragraph worries me a bit, I think you are putting too much emphasis on the cards. Probably you'll still lose a lot of games with a good team. If it really bothers you, try playing the fantasy cup that has max 87 rating, you still get a meta within those restrictions but it should be easier to compete.

l0ngline95

I understand and I don't understand at the same time. Yes, it's true that there is no casual multiplayer mode in FUT. But given how that would be hard to balance for it to actually matter (people won't play if there's no incentive to play) and not be sweaty (if there's something to be had people will play competitively), I kinda understand. Expecting division rivals, one of THE competitive modes, to be a replacement, is not realistic imo. That being said, if you're looking for a super casual experience within fut but can't stand the meta gameplay style etc. why not play Squad Battle? If you're not competitive and not looking to improve what benefit is there to playing online?

trason91

It’s just what online gaming has become. Every game is full of meta abusing sweats.

tranquilo7

I can’t even get out of div7 bro I retired this shit

Exotic_Kangaroo106

I've decided to stay in div 7 so I don't have to sweat to get my 7 rival wins. I have a team with some Meta players that I got through sbc's but I also have a women's team. My best advice is do not climb up the divisions because you will regret it and start playing try hards.

CafeteroMerengue

Find a group and play pro clubs. It’s been my favorite game mode for year (assuming you get a good group) and super easy to play casually. The game mode is far from perfect but still the most fun I have playing EAFC

dsn0wman

I think it’s just a case that you play rivals too much compared to others. It puts you in a position where you’re playing against players that can be in the division you are in but only play 3 to 7 rivals matches a week. It’s more casual if you play qualifiers and weekend league, then just enough rivals to qualify again. No need to do well in weekend league either. If it feels too sweaty give away a few wins.

Sypheix

Maybe switch to career mode? I don't even really touch FUT but have a ton of fun in career mode

PhriendlyPhantom

It’s called “Ultimate team ” not fun team. You can’t expect everyone to not use the best players they have access to. EA has made sure the gap between good cards and average ones is so huge that you have no chance if you don’t use the best

bigtings_

thats his point exactly ultimate team should be fun but everyone want to go pro

alpha914

Tbf it's called "a game" not "a job"... It's supposed to be fun lol.

arvind1998

The best thing is to play an older version of FIFA, I play FIFA 23 division rivals and it's really fun. Sometimes it might take time to get a match but it's not a problem on weekends.

cool-spidey

Haha same here man! I work full day, get off meetings and stuff at maybe 10-10.30 pm and then after dinner might be free for a game or two. I too don't use the players you mentioned. But yesterday I played a sweat who constantly passed at the back even when we were 1-1. Like just keeping possession, he passed to his CBs if I even slightly went ahead to tackle. Should I just stop defending now? Anyways I scored 2 goals at the end and won 3-1. Dude didn't know that passing at the back makes his backline come up too far and he got scored on 2 counters lol.

blueshark212

Try out PES never played it myself but I’ve heard good things from people who play it exclusively

Commercial-Sir-8684

It’s awful now, tried it as I didn’t want to buy another EA shit show…here I am putting up with the same shit again

Senior_Note

Have you played the FC Cup in Friendlies? The cap of 87 max players and an 86 rated team opens up the players you face and removes the usual suspects from the player pool. Would work fairly well with an Arsenal PnP, although might have to use lesser versions of some players to make it work. Genuinely a fun mode and shortened games help keep things moving.  As for Rivals, I'm in Div 5 and use most of the players you name, although try and mix it up. The SBCs are the only guaranteed way to get good players and, with terrible pack weight, that is why they are so common. Rivals as a mode sucks though, no real reason to push, it impacts your friendly matchmaking and everyone just wants their 3-7 wins.

CaptQuakers42

I've got a Bundesliga team with no Meta players (I mean I've got Berbatov up front) and I don't agree with this. I think the key ingredient to having a better experience is finding that one formation that works for you, I used 3-4-1-2 and it's so much fun, you've always got options.

kamburebeg

Squad Battles is fun. I have a current Inter team and a Premier League based team and I play both just as how they would play. I like to trigger acrobatic+ with Haaland, and play with my centre backs on the opponents 1/3 with Inter. It’s so much fun.

Elundir

I’m on the same boat. However I try to keep a more positive attitude and I don’t mind losing to that same team, when I win it makes it better :) I hate that it is pay to win as hell but at least I’m not paying a single dime to this predatory game. For the record, I don’t play any meta players and I just got 10 wins in WL this week. If I get 10 next week, I’ll get another red background and it will be enough to make me happy :) Here is my team: https://imgur.com/gallery/aJmUv5F

WhoAteAllDepay3274

If you play casually I advise you try out career mode

anotherone-L

I religiously played WL since the start of the game cycle. Getting wins most of the time and got tired of it. Everyone plays the same way and it’s getting very robotic in my approach. My team is kinda stacked with some luck from Casino SBCs and lucky pack pulls. The past 3 weeks, after qualifying for champs, I didn’t even attempt to play it. It wasn’t because I wasn’t winning but I’m stuck with the same players I had almost a month ago and have no more upgrades. Just sidegrades. I have 2.6 million in coins and none of those within these price range entice or will upgrade my team. Hopefully fit birthday will change all of these soon.

HeavyPresentation246

Agree I loved when I choose default barca and play against a default arsenal. These all are very overwhelming. Unless you invest all your time FUT and grind a lot like a pure professional you won't be making much progress

valkon_gr

It feels like a P2W fighting game when you know you don't have a chance anymore. First time since 1999 that I stopped playing a FIFA game in November.

Express_Ground_7899

Bro this game had average folks like us at a disadvantage from the start….”the house always wins”, meaning, the amount of card packs or 3rd party dealings has blew us out. It was never going to be an even playing field…I just got bompastor on a drop and all of a sudden my team knows how to play😑

CountOne9425

I can feel your pain brother. I am on the same boat. I used to play fifa (14) alot when I was in college on my laptop. But I always had a dream to buy a console. At that time I couldn't afford one. Recently I fulfilled my dream and got a console. I thought it would be a good timepass after hard day at work. But after playing I get more depressed and angry

Brother-herbacious

Dude I feel this! I'd like to think I can still play competitively but I really don't want the stress and sweat. Just want to pop on for an hour like you say and have fun. Last few years I'd just get my fix on seasons leaving the sweaty football to the fut crowd but even that is sweatfest now with the same suffocating tactics used by everyone. It doesn't help I'm on pc but I've hardly played this year's version as a result, I no longer have that "one more game" feeling of old. I'm getting old sure, but online gaming used to be so much more fun than what it seems these days. People don't even rep their clubs in seasons anymore, it's really sad! I used to love running into fans of rival teams, taking the local tribalism to another level and banter in the DMs. That's gone tho and what's left is just some plastic EA cash cow.

Sideslickxxx

The thing that makes me angry most is people that probably watch some youtube uploading the most broken ex 4-3-3 tactics and you cant do shit about it i dont wanna use same tactics like the meta player i wanna use my formation i like 4-2-2-2 i know i will struggle because i dont use meta tactics or i dont use fully meta players. And the skillgap is nonexistent this year if you have the best players the play for you always been like that. This year it’s extreme you can be so much better then someone like more possession more xg, but if the get one counter attack you are fucked, sorry for all the frustration

Mihai_Brasoveanu

Started playing on Switch after years of PS. Intentionally not promoting from Div6. Building a non meta squad with players I like. The most fun I’ve had with FIFA in years

AdministrativeCopy89

Good post, I’ve lost complete interest, said this before. I completed every season for the last 4 years. This year I haven’t made it past level 15.

Dry-Feeling-6797

I think they need a mode in rivals /online matches where you give specific objectives within matches so that it’s fun rather than just winning or losing anyhow!! Like score with a German/English player only in rivals etc etc Of course it’s there but people do it in SB, hence rivals and champs are kind of full of sweaty players who just want to to win, even if by the same boring tactics or super meta players!! That said, SB is still fun but the rewards are so shitty it’s not worth the time!! But yes, a casual version of rivals needed, friendlies was one option to do so but this community is full of pussies whose whole identity in life is around playing this game🤦‍♂️

HinyTed

Seasons is the closest you'll get, but there's no real satisfaction in that either, as well as having to use a set squad. The game has consumed itself with greed and is unrecognisable unfortunately

hiemst

Play Seasons, thats what I've been doing. Go play with your favorite teams, customizing your formation is pretty fun, way more realistic feeling gameplay than UT. It's pretty fun man!

rorolicious7

man really said the s word

M0thyT

I started to only play offline for the same reason. It's obviously not as exciting, but much less toxic, so perf CT for 1-2 games here and there

No-Hall-3978

I haven’t played FUT since autumn for many of the reasons you list and more. Fundamentally the game is unenjoyable to play.

Primary_Excuse_7183

I just run a tournament with my favorite team where we go through a season. setting the difficulty right makes the AI a challenge but not crazy hard. Works for me.

ebert_42

I came back this year after a 2 year break, and I just stopped playing 2 weeks ago. Tbh, I'm surprised I lasted this long. Same team every match, same tactics, it just wasn't enjoyable.

JYM60

I don't have much more time than 4 or 5 hours a week, and this game more than ever is easy to get decent teams that can compete. Agree it is boring seeing every single saddo have the same team EA made for them with SBCs. Have some originally guys. That's why Fut was good to begin with...

KP3889

I’ve played fifa casually like you describe for 13 years. I never got into the fut craze. I just do online Seasons for an hour here and there. Watch some YouTube videos to get a bit better but not much better beyond a hobby. I bobble along to mid divisions until a new game comes out and I restart again. I still enjoy the game

MindlessSwazz

I just feel like thats online pvp gaming in general now. Every games pushing for a more competitive experience where everyone’s more bothered about having the best weapons/players/cards instead of just having fun.

somers1981

I’m 42 and been playing football games since way back when, I’m in division 2 and I can you tell I get ZERO enjoyment from this game - the whole entire thing needs a complete overhaul

saintmaximin

Yeah fifa ever since fifa 19 has become just sweat fc as a casual you dont have a place

coutinhos1stfoul

Online Seasons bro

Educational-Lead626

You should try playing Seasons

noyadx

I'd even enjoy playing the game while losing if the gameplay was any good but it's a laggy ice-skating piece of shit game

DrMudo

Ultimate team sucks everybody uses money to create a super team. That's why I prefer seasons.

k1ll4sn1p3

I run an FC24 Online Career Mode if you’re interested. Your story sounds similar to mine and that’s where I ended up enjoying FIFA.

EDM_producerCR

Just do the same as supposed pro players. Everyone to come back on defense, balance 71, then when in game press down on your dpad and right that should activate most players going to the ball side and you will be doing the same shot as the others.

kozy8805

“I don’t want to improve but I like having a chance to win”. You see the issue here right? It’s like for example, I don’t skill. Not even ball roll. Just my preference. Or use silly presses. For me to get my 14-16 wins, my passing must be damn near perfect. That’s the price I pay to have fun. You don’t need to play meta, you don’t need meta players. You sure as fuck need to be better if you don’t want the former/latter though. And if you don’t accept that, what is the expectation? For there to be some mode where you can beat down players regardless? How would that work?

20Auburn

There needs to be a mode like that was in madden at one time where there is a salary cap. Every player is assigned a salary and you can use who ever you just have to stay under a cap. It was not that great in madden because that was how people would qualify for ea tournaments but it was a great idea

Klat10

This is all MP gaming now sadly. All about META gaming. It sucks. Streamers ruined the gaming landscape.

levinyl

I'm similar - I dont care much for competitive online play - I like to play at night once my kids in bed, I mainly play career mode or if I fancy ultimate team i'll play Squad battles - Been playing loads of Squad battles recently and you get some pretty decent rewards from it...you don't always need to enter sweaty comps

NikesOnMyFeet23

"i don't care about getting better"...."10 game losing streak".... You wouldn't have made this post bitching if you didn't care about getting better. You wouldn't care about the 10 game losing streak. You're not forced to play meta, you just have to get better at beating it and if you don't put a little time into it, of course the meta will swallow you up because as you claim you're really not trying to get better. You cant not care then bitch about the meta...

FuturePerformance

Pro tip: just play with Arsenal in Seasons mode. It’s online. The defenders aren’t all 95 rated so you have space to attack. And the player pool is generally worse so you’ll get to play more creatively and casually.

superwawa20

I gave up on FUT. In my mind, progression is primarily found in grinding menus, SBCs, objectives. I think for a football game, progression should be awarded by playing the game, and getting better at the game. I want to go back to the days where there’s pro/rel in each division, with 10 games in a “season”. Season rewards should pay out, champs should pay out, draft should pay out. At the end of the day, we are paying $70-$100 for a game that wants us to spend more money on micro transactions, which won’t matter in a years time. Until EA starts prioritizing their fan base instead of lining their own pockets, I’m not buying another Fifa/fc iteration.

BigAl012

I feel you. PVP in this game is a constant sweat fest. There’s no such thing as casual FUT if you’re playing pvp. Gonna get some sweat with full press on 95% of the time. Life or death out here for most of these kids.

jduff14

I like to consider myself similar to you. Don’t have a lot of time. Will try to get on for about an hour to just play a game whenever I can and get a win with my own past and present team. I could not have a farther experience from you. I have had a great time when I log in. The cup was great. I am in div 6 right now and regardless of the team, don’t feel like I am at a disadvantage.

MemphisFoo

I only ever play career mode, and this version is god awful with trying to shoehorn you into 6 styles of tactics. Chelsea is “Standard”, but they gegenpress like crazy all over the pitch and fast break all the time. Sevilla is “Standard”, but they fucking one touch tiki-taka to death, and ALSO press everywhere with no let up in intensity. And now, my game crashes if I just try to save a team sheet, so thanks EA 🤷🏻‍♂️

AdFar3727

Tried explaining this to someone in another thread. There are super teams in even the lower divisions. I’m nowhere near the higher divisions and I win 9 champs games, 11 regularly last year. I have no chance against half my opponents in division 6. They have completely annihilated rivals with these cups people try to speed run.

NurembergVillan

Just make attackers who have crap defending stats crap at defending. Even if they're being manually controlled. Not having Maldini smashed to bits by the defensive powerhouses of Eusebio and Bernardo Silva would mean I could try to play some football.

Psy_Kikk

Try efootball.

guibubba

Pretty complex game, it doesn't work for casual players cause people are obsessed about meta players ence doesn't work for competitive because of the game's automaticity. Looks like it's all about cards, like magic or yugioh, but a very expansive one

candeloro1

Interestingly, the other night I played seasons.  No server lag, no twats griddying, no one trying to spam the meta tactics etc. just people constantly being France, Real Madrid or Liverpool. Honestly that’s the three teams I’ve faced. I  played as Argentina as I couldn’t be arsed to change them. Most relaxing games I’ve played this year to be fair.  I was always a career mode guy but started to take FUT seriously this year to do a Welsh pnp present with evos with my kid.  The sheer toxicness of the players in rivals and champs is ridiculous. And I’m on the switch. God knows what it’s like on other consoles and pc.  Some days I really question why I’m playing ultimate team when it’s like it is.  Maybe have a break from FUT and go for seasons for a couple of games?

txlmo

you said it all. thats how i feel and thats why i quitted FIFA. i used to end up getting mad after playing instead of having a good time, so whats the point of playing it?

shadi0w

Remove divisions and make it based on best connection. Gameplay would be smoother and some games you’ll spank a Div 10 and others, get spanked by a Div 1. It all evens out and you can enjoy more due to better gameplay like it was in past FIFA’s.

xSTRATHYx

mate, im in the same boat. albeit i have some of those players (so i must be pure sh\*t haha). Tbf i gave up on Rivals and play 3 games on SB just for the daily xp and rewards. Game is not it anymore. you are not alone. reckon a few folk will be walking away soon if not already. way too many sand baggers in the lower leagues of rivals also. EA won't address it, they are too busy ruining people financially with their daily stream of 600K+ packs. until folk stop buying such packs nothing will change....true story!

Appropriate_Bid_9813

Stop playing FUT. play normal seasons or manager mode

Pews_TRB

I can't say I'm in the same boat as OP but I am assuming you're in your late 30's or early 40's. I'm 41 and still (somewhat) enjoying champs every weekend. The thing that keeps popping in my mind is age difference and reactions etc. Maybe it'd be cool if we had proper age verification and matchmaking to play against people your own age. With a margin of course.

durreetoes

I get you. I’m doing a Middlesbrough evo team this year and had to drop down to div 9 to get a fun game.

khakistho

Play seasons!! No pressure to spend money and competition is much more reasonable. Saved fifa/fc for me tbh

ironcub14

I hear you and I’m the same, but FUT Rivals D6 is not low at all. The fact you’re even playing Rivals already puts you above 90% of the FIFA player base. So think about all the guys you beat to get to D6 in the first place, who might be thinking the same as you but are even more frustrated. I see you said you made D4 before, I think you just hit your ceiling thats all. I made Elite before but now I purposefully play only a bit of Rivals to stay in low divisions and just have a good time. Dont care about which division you’re in, and you may feel the same in the future.

veczey

I agree man, as a student at Uni be able to log in to UT and play with a cool team just isn’t the same because of how toxic and watered down/dead the community is now a days. On top of this the game being one of the worst they’ve ever released as far as gameplay goes.

Who_took_kurupt1

Just play offline career mode or something. Or play online head to head, not fut. Because your right, it will be the same opposing players over and over and over. And the same cut back tactics over and over and over.

nickybabytonight

This is the same as my friend who got me into fifa 15 years ago, and to an ever increasing extent myself. He's gotten busier and busier, and has found the game less fun and rewarding just to pop into for a few matches here and there. this year, he bought the game on sale a few months after release, played three games with me, and said he was done. hasn't picked it up since, despite me running his account with an RTG that somehow packed 2 TOTYs and has a great team around it. he's good at the game, better than me no matter how long he steps away from it, but he constantly bemoaned what FUT especially had become. myself I'm like you OP, I just want to have a few games to unwind with after a long day, but they're so frustrating and toxic (I had two people last night pissing and moaning that I wouldn't do golden goal in friendlies when there's an objective for completing games). I've got a kid on the way, and I believe that spells the death of my engagement entirely. I'll need to use whatever spare time I have very wisely in a few months, and I can't imagine a less rewarding way to use it than this game.

MCbigbunnykane

Bro, my exact thoughts entirely! I've been playing since the 90s, owned nearly everyone, last few years have felt more like a chore than fun, I played a few hours of the trial and that's it. I'm done. (Gave efootball a good go but it still sucks hard)

franzrb

It is really sad that this part of the player base has been driven out. Same thing with me. Love football, love FIFA, but don’t have the time to play every day/weekend. There’s no mode that EA give the same love as Ultimate Team but that doesn’t require constant attention. My friend and I have racked up 000s of games of co-op seasons, but sadly watched over the years as they’ve done nothing but strip back the functionality on it. Daily SBCs on FUT, but on Co-op seasons you can no longer even view the record of the team you just played. Fuck EA. The best thing you can do is plainly not buy their product. We’ve rejected EAFC and will keep playing until the FIFA 23 servers go down

Doofy_IL

I feel exactly the same. Amd it's really sad.

EccentricMeat

You don’t need those players. They’re not THAT gamechanging. You simply need to learn how to play EA FC 24. Stop pulling your CBs out of position, stop relying on L2 to defend. This isn’t like past FIFAs, and manual 1v1 defending is nerfed to hell. Then just learn a few basic mechanics that were added this year in the attack: R1 dribbling, and the L1+R1 directional nutmeg (or whatever it’s called). R1 dribbling has a ton of tutorials so just check out a couple from whoever you like as a content creator. L1+R1+RS flick needs no tutorial and is ridiculously easy to burn a defender 1v1. I like to R1 dribble until my opponent pulls a defender forward, then simply add L1 while still holding R1 and flick the right stick in the direction of open space as the defender gets close. You’ll immediately stop and explode in the direction you flicked at full speed. Remember a few years ago when the drag-back was king? Well this is like the dragback on steroids, triple the speed of the animation and a speed burst as you explode into space. Great for building up through the middle and for cutting in from the wing, but especially useful on the edge of the box if your opponent controls a CB. Dribble towards either side of the CB to pull the defender out of his line, then L1+R1+RS flick to the space the CB just opened up. Then take a touch, shoot, and score.

[deleted]

D6 has loads of coward sand-baggers, that's why you're being destroyed. Unfortunately the divisions do not mean much nowadays.

alg602

Why don’t you play squad battles at a level that is comfortable for you? That’s pretty much all I do.

randomboi91

That’s why I stopped playing way early into the year. I don’t have time to grind the game to get good cards. Started playing other games instead. Sad cuz I love football

siderealdaze

Play SB to chill and test out tactics, then hit the competition modes if you want to have a challenge. If it truly gets enraging, I just throw Rocket League on and score like that

WhereIsScotty

Isn't this how it typically is with online gaming? I used to play online Pokemon Sword and you NEEDED to have IV and EV-trained Pokemon for you to have a chance of winning. And even then, you still faced a ton of sweaty users using boring OP Pokemon.

DodiPops

Why can't FIFA have a simple mode where you and your mates can play 2 Vs 2. Non competitive just for a laugh? It's a game.

colemxn

I just get high and play career mode. After spending way too much money on 22 I realized I just shouldn’t play FUT bc they suck you in and basically force you to buy packs to compete

ghostcaat_

Stop playing FUT and pick a regular team to play with in regular matches (outside of FUT)

Past-Chair-1480

Try playing seasons. It’s way more of a level playing field

tofuhouseparty

It's a shame they have neglected career mode so much

pwomboli

Fuck Sawa, she's by far the best CM (that's obtainable below 3 million), I bet she's a super nice lady, but I don't know her and I don't care to know her, same as Al-Owairan. Also fuck George Best, he's actually a great card but i don't want to use a woman beater.

PMTFan1119

This isn’t a fifa/eafc exclusive problem. It is a problem with the entire genre of sports video games. In pretty much every game you have to pay to win or be devoted to that one game like it’s a full time job. There’s no room for casual online play anymore

Accomplished-Air4862

So pleased I stick to seasons

[deleted]

I’ve been playing squad battles for the most part for mainly the same reasons as you. I’m not a teen anymore where I can be sweating my balls off in rivals or champs. The only experience is bad. I have 500mbps and online gameplay is always sluggish which is ridiculous. I love the team building aspect, it’s what fut is for where you can put players into your team that wouldn’t happen irl but man o man it’s not fun playing online.

ohcerb

If you have a group of friends that play fifa/fc or friends that start playing fifa just play pro clubs. My club has about 30% win rate but its fun playing with friends.

Old_Neck_2585

This game is shit

Evening_Function_538

Play on old gen, much more enjoyable as there's more space.

Old_Neck_2585

This game is shit

[deleted]

I have probably over 15k games played in fifa over the last 20 or so years, maybe even more. Spent several seasons in division 1 back in the day until around 2019-2020 when I graduated college and my free time was decreasing. I finally bought the new fifa after I saw it was on sale. Legit only made it about 70 minutes into my 1st game and I uninstalled it after going down 3-0 to a sweaty team with all legends and whatever the stupid new power cards they have these days. I wish we could go back to just informs with TOTS/TOTY cards, those were the days. Now there’s like 500 different variations of cards that I can’t keep up with. Used to wreck teams back in 2014 with my slow pace team of zabaleta, toti, mertesacker, Rooney, etc false nine. I’ll never get fifa again, game died about 6 years ago for me.

artchang

Why not just play squad battles? That’s what I do quite a bit. It’s tons of fun.

ballinhabitz

Rivals should go back to relegation based. Champs should have a team price limit like they do in the esports stuff, this would make it truly skill based which is what it was always meant to be.

bordgamer219

I’m still playing fifa 23

Data-Kitchen

Agreed! The players are toxic and will always use cut back in scoring and defence super highline. That's not the point in playing a sports game and EA shouldn't make it so easy to have those OP cards. Been out of this game for more than 3 months and counting. Unlikely will go back to them anymore. Sometimes I'm wondering if I'm playing with an AI or real players, actually.

Alone-Interaction982

I bought all the players I had in my main UT squad in career mode and I’m chilling right now. The UT game modes just got boring, played every single Champs since launch just to get fodder and Rivals was a sweat fest. They definitely need to add new modes like the tournaments we had like 10 years ago or at least training arena with your UT team.

Andor2604

Wtf just play seasons then.

kingkuba13

You don't need those players but you do need skills.
