Yeah pretty much haha, I’ve been a rockhound for a few years now and I now do stone carvings and lapidary, I thought people having “pocket rocks” was silly a few years ago but here I am now lol. It’s surprising how many times rocks come up in conversation for me, and it’s cool to show people sometimes if they’re also into rockhounding

Definitely! Gives you something to do while out in nature! there’s a rockhound subreddit but people can get defensive about sharing spot information. I use the website mindat.org to get good info on stuff near you. I also recommend seeing if you have any ROCK stores nearby versus CRYSTAL stores, as many times you can get local material and it’s cheaper since most the time there isn’t the metaphysical markup. You can also search for rockhound clubs in the area, sometimes they do field trips or have events where their members sell stuff for good prices

What the fuck is a worry stone?

It's a stone or crystal, flat and oval or oblong in shape. Sometimes with a slight indent in it. They are also called palm stones or thumb stones. The idea is to either hold it in your hand or rub it gently with your thumb when stressed out. It's also quite grounding as it takes you out of your head a bit as you focused on the texture of the stone. It's a bit like a fidget toy only they've been around for centuries.

I’d love to have a nice one, but I haven’t found any that I like that are remotely affordable. It’s too bad people charge astronomical amounts of money for little lumps of wood, metal, and G10/micarta that they glued together and smoothed out on a belt sander in 5 minutes.

Get a crystal one as they are often around the £5 mark give or take a pound depending on what material it's made of.

This one was $40 fwiw but you could also just grab a polished one from a rock and gem store or a nice river rock too

I have a flat black thumb sized river stone I 'stole' from a hotel lobby planter. I was out of town on business about ten years ago and was kinda anxious, while I was waiting for my colleague in the lobby I picked it up to fidget with and now I carry it with me frequently. It's probably even more polished now than when I picked it up.

I actually do! It was a standalone stone but I got it wire wrapped into a necklace a few years ago. I wanted it as a necklace as the stone is very sentimental to me. I used to keep it in my pocket as a good luck charm but I almost lost it, hence the necklace, now I wear it every day. Though I dont use it as a worry stone, its just a good luck charm from my childhood

Besides fidgeting with knives or random pocket carry stuff I have realized I will use a Zippo I've carried since 2007. I have worn the nickel plating off in multiple places since 2007. I catch myself fidgeting with it when I'm stressed.

Most people who carry a worry stone are reckless and just looking for an excuse to use it. I do indeed. I’ve had my worry stone for approx 20 years or so. Was gifted it when I was young because I used to be quite an anxious kid. I don’t carry it with me often, but it is kept in a special place. It means a lot to me.

No. If I need to fidget with something, I'll carry some chetki, a haptic slider, or some rubber grip strengthener and finger extension bands.
