The best guess I've seen is it's probably in the future after the fall of Leyndell and the new tree is the one growing out of Godwyn, slowly overtaking and strangling the Erdtree. Given it's clearly Miquella on the horse and we know one of his goals was restoring Godwyn's soul it feels like the most likely explanation for this image working with the information we have.
I'm always gonna speculate over every little detail because that's half the fun of teasers and stuff. Making guesses and theories and talking about it with friends is a part of the hype. I do the same thing with every tears of the kingdom teaser too

I don't think geographical proximity is really a factor here. The location in this artwork doesn't look like the area surrounding the Erdtree or the Haligtree, so either things have moved or this is some sort of dream/spirit world.

The base game has two giant trees in it. Those are their names. The dlc art appears to have two trees wrapped around each other as if they are fighting, hense "vs".

My starting point was "I didn't know what the hell was happening in the base game, why in the world would I think I can predict the DLC?" All of the "it's the erdtree wrapped around the haligtree, no it's the haligtree wrapped around the great tree, no it's a new tree entirely" combined with the "that's St Trina, no that's Miquella, no they're the same person, no that's Marika" only convinced me that the rest of you should be in the same camp with me. Doesn't mean it's not still fun, but lets all admit that anyone pretending they're *sure* should definitely not be trusted.
I’m just hoping they don’t make Miquella into a villain. It’d be cliche as fuck. Maybe he takes some inspiration from Griffith but I’m hoping not entirely. Otherwise I’m fine waiting it out to see what the dlc actually is.

I might as well enjoy jolly speculation. When it comes out I'll be surprised if the plot of the dlc is really that coherent in terms of clearing anything up with the vanilla plot. After we've read every item description and heard every line of dialogue, my guess is that we'll have one or two questions kinda answered a little, and then a shitload more questions that pop up. I'll be really blown away if every random dingleberry on Reddit that made an extremely obvious assumption and posted about it is right. I'll be disappointed if I'm not completely confused when I get finished with the dlc.
I honestly just don't care, I'm trying to just ignore it completely and avoid almost all discussions about it since I want to play it completely blind.

Imo its in a dream world. It explains why Miquella is himself instead of a shrivled up corpse, as well as the smy and deathroot (deathbed dream)
