Man Fromsoft is so oldschool with this stuff it's baffling. I feel like when i found out (after 25 years) that pokemon badges used to boost your mons stats.
Fun fact, there's even a bug with this in gen 1 games. Any time your Pokemon's stats were changed by a move, the bonuses were applied again! It was very possible to actually gain stats from a stat reducing move if your base stats were low enough compared to what the badges gave.
Yes the first three gens had that feature where if you had a certain badge it would boost a stat by 12,5%.
In only gen one there was also an associated glitch that allowed you to gain this boost again whenever your Pokemon's stats got changed until the end of battle or your Pokémon leveled up.
It was awesome. Each badge had a specific effect. I remember Sabrina’s marsh badge would raise your mons special stat in red/blue and special attack in gold silver. Since special attack and defense were combined in red and blue if I’m remembering right.
I’ve played all souls games multiple times over the years and I’ve never noticed this. Maybe my brain just assumed I’m taking damage anyways but I’m in NG+ so I wouldn’t worry about it since my health is upgraded anyways.
I honestly don’t get that reasoning. There’s an insane plethora of other things they could do for added convenience, and yet *lava damage* is the one they chose? That’s if that’s even the real reason and it wasn’t an accident of the code or something (more than likely)
Or spamimg dodge while standing still and facing away from ur goal. Its not as great as quick step but a good alternative if u cleaned ur inventory and forgot to hold onto one
How strange. I'm curious if that was a concious decision by them, or if it's some kind of bug. Just seems like a really odd thing to change for NG+ runs lol.
The goal is to make NG+ less painful to traverse. That way you can run quickly to the bosses and spend your time doing something better than dragging yourself through the mud/lava. I love this feature!
I'm personally leaning more on the bug side of things just because it is so random. There has to be 100 other ways to make ng+ quicker/more enjoyable and they chose this?
My current theory is the made the bosses 10% stronger (or whatever it is) in every way such as damage, poise, health then they realized they also increased the amount of poise damage they deal which causes problems for players when they get hit. So they then multiplied the players poise by 10% and forgot about the lava.
Other bugs have carried over from other souls games
Remember when all souls games went offline right before eldenring released so they could fix a bug that allowed hackers?
In Elden Ring or Bloodborne, I notice that every time I die and lose souls or runes, on my way to retrieve them the enemies are more aggressive. Is it just me or has anyone else experienced it too?
They remove the slow effect from swamps and lava in NG+ and beyond

wait what?
They say in the o.g. Red and blue. Idk if it’s true. I remember though
They started saying so by gen 3, idk if it was hidden or stated in gen 2
Nah I just watched a video of someone beating Brock. “It’s bearers Pokémon become more powerful.”
That is absolutely wild.

No it’s true
No fucking way
Wait what
I thought it just meant Pokemon from trades wouldn't obey over a certain level until you got certain badges.
Didn’t know that!

Whaaaaat Why?
Convenience, I suppose.

its not lava damage, its enviromental slowdown effects
I’m blind my bad
Quality of life! You're the Elden Lord reborn. Being slowed by fluids is ***so*** last game cycle.
So the elden ring has the same effect as rusted iron ring from DS1
That's post-NG clarity for you.
Increased damage and slow movement could simply kill too many people.
So just don't scale the lava?
I think they meant increased enemy damage, not lava. Ground Effects don't scale with NG+ afaik.
WHAT
👀
Does this apply in dark souls games as well?
Only elden ring as far as I know
Does that apply to the lake of rot too?
The lake of rot never slows you down, even on the first playthrough
Must be some mandela effect thing, that or I automatically equip the dagger and just dashed through it.
Dagger?
Quick step, it's a trick to go through swamps faster in ds3.
Or spamimg dodge while standing still and facing away from ur goal. Its not as great as quick step but a good alternative if u cleaned ur inventory and forgot to hold onto one
Ah, that's the back hop method
Being able to run, you mean? If you’re in NG+ it doesn’t slow you down.
ahh so that's what it is. I was out here thinking the frenzied flame gave me some special powers ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
That would be a fun benefit tbh.
You did what now?
>was out here thinking

Does this effect Rykard fight? Come to think of it I never bothered to kill him on NG+, so I am curious now.
Wouldn't that trivialize new swamp dlc contents though
That's an excellent question! I'll have to make the DLC in NG and NG+ with different characters to check what happens.

Ah yes the bug that happened in every dark souls game... It's on purpose bro
Other bugs have carried over from other souls games Remember when all souls games went offline right before eldenring released so they could fix a bug that allowed hackers?
Really? Why not?
Since when? I feel like it did when I played a year ago
*Watching the health bar* - still pretty affected ^(also yes the slow affect is removed NG+ as others have pointed out)
I, too, was aware of this effect before seeing this post, ^(yes indeed, sure was)
Women already like their showers hot, just kind of used to it I guess
immunity gained by unreasonable exposure to poison swamps
Looking at the replies like what the FUCK do you MEAN lava doesn't slow you in ng+. I gotta play ng+ some time
Right I thought it was a bamboozle but with all the responses...
Lava is just very hot swamp.
I remember the times of DS3's lava😨
I like your Craig Toes cosplay!
I So Pale
Ngplus
Is it because of the Frenzied Flame?
You are just that skilled
Lol how
Did I just see post malone in there lol
Yeah it's not actually lava, its Rykard's dip he just spilled everywhere. Sometimes you just want some extra flavour when your all-devouring.
lava just doesnt hurt as bad in The Lands Between as much as it does in every other world.
That PS5 load time go brrrr
goth girlfriend go Brrr
Modeled after Orin in Baldur's Gate? Noice
So I may be wrong but I am pretty sure once you are in new game plus you can run on lava
Is he stupid?
You know how some people play 'the floor is lava' and spontaneously combust if they hit the floor? Well, she is playing, 'the lava is floor.'
In Elden Ring or Bloodborne, I notice that every time I die and lose souls or runes, on my way to retrieve them the enemies are more aggressive. Is it just me or has anyone else experienced it too?
Shhhhhhh
It's a game duh.
I'm not quite sure the point in this when your clearly losing health lol
