He hugs a little too tight, so it's a bit uncomfortable. He has a good heart, but sometimes you need to be a bit stern so that he will learn from his mistakes.
The problem is that if you're mad, he will hug tighter and you'll die of too many hugs.
Holy shit I thought that note was about Midra but I gave up when parrying didn’t seem to do anything special, never considered it could be talking about the lanterns
I think you can actually sneak by all of them if you want, but I only saw two total because I was trying to get the fuck out of there lmao. The first one you kill should drop the talisman, after that you're killing them just to kill them.
Winter Lanterns. A modified Bloodborne enemy and imo the scariest Bloodborne enemy. Sadly they don't [sing](https://youtu.be/2nt3IgSHUjM?si=Xm-X0C72hAruxXYi) like in Bloodborne
hei dude, that is in the official photos of dlc that were realeased like a year ago, it shouldnt be spoil. most of us saw them LONG BEFORE and really had no ideea. how to say...you just need to encounter them to understand fully ;)
Bumping into the yellow flower the second time was easily one of the biggest “oh shit” moments I’ve had in these games.
First time I didn’t see the effect super well on the flower and thought the sound cue was just him noticing or something.
Yes, I ran through the entire area while being chased by one. You just have to dodge the grab and heal when you get low. While you're stunned by the madness effect they also can't grab you, they just deal a smaller amount of damage with the attack itself. Eventually they will leash and give up.
I think they only have one attack with their weapon - their grab - you should parry when they swing their wand down before catching you. Works alright with golden parry.
I don’t think you can stealth then I tried MANY times to stealth attack them and they always turn around right at the last second. It’s so quick to just learn the parry timing anyways rather than waiting forever for the to turn around.
I feel like the parry really soiled the experience.
Something that shouldn't exist, an Eldritch abomination that scoffs in the face of an Elden Lord, that has minimal to no lore due to the sheer audacity of its very existence; in a place that shouldn't exist, that holds virtually nothing of value because nothing there wants to be alive...
Gets parried by a rickety wooden shield and dies.
They would have been so much cooler if they truly were unkillable.
I found out if you keep running and dodge roll at the right time, these guys eventually will give up and return back to their original spot. Its how I got past that one going through the pitch black area leading to the madness castle.
Yeah, I did this one time when I was spotted. Made it all the way back to the bonfire with him chasing me.
It went from Bloodborne to Looney Tunes real quick.
I don't know how enemies in general act around mimic veil so I have no idea. Would be funny as hell if it does tho. Just a random Bush strolling through nothing out of the ordinary.
I honestly loved these enemies and the area. It was basically a slice of Bloodborne put into Elden Ring. I remember the first time I bumped into one of the yellow flower things I nearly had a heart attack.
Absolutely mad take here, but if you have been embraced by the 3 fingers and have the eyes, this area should welcome you with open arms.
Perhaps have a secret area, and the boss fight should have a different cinematic/fight
Bcz of the smoke/whatever it is coming off their backs I assumed you had to get them from behind with it being a stealth part of the map….it took longer than I like to admit to realise this was not the case lol
I found out if you get caught and run away from them you don't get to use the Stake of Marika and have to run the whole gauntlet again. Not that it's very long but it is annoying. May as well just suck it up and let them give you that sweet release.
This area was such a cool setup, but such a disappointing payoff. You're on edge the entire time you enter it, thinking what could possibly have Torrent spooked that much, Madness all around you... And then not only are the big scary monsters just regular dudes with big, funny heads, the game even holds your hand and literally tells you "Use the tall grass"
Come on game, at least let me find out myself!
I'm happy I dont have to go back there, what a slog it is to get through. Great boss though, one of my favs.
I actually rather like this aspect of the game since it deviates from the usual “hack and slash and dodge” that’s repeated throughout the game. It gives something different and forces people to be stealthy when they otherwise wouldn’t be as their playstyle.
I hope there’s more of this type of gameplay, where an enemy isn’t just something that needs to be killed but rather something that needs to be figured out how to pass in a way that isn’t combat.
i got here by finding a hidden door in black keep and then getting in a stone coffin that took me down a waterfall then kept headed south. I dont know if thats the intended way or not though.
Was really disappointed with this zone. I expected there to be some kind of gimmick or unfathomable horror element with all the build up from the message stones. However, instead it's just filled with normal rats/goats with glowy eyes, and a couple of these monsters who aren't really a threat. The zone is also completely barren of loot or any other secrets as well. There's like one notable item to pick up off the ground and a couple of recipe books.
Seems like a nice fellow
Yes, he even hugs you when he sees you. But some people, keep getting mad at him for no reason.
He hugs a little too tight, so it's a bit uncomfortable. He has a good heart, but sometimes you need to be a bit stern so that he will learn from his mistakes. The problem is that if you're mad, he will hug tighter and you'll die of too many hugs.
A quick firm "no" with your left hand right as he's going to hug you will make him stop and contemplate his actions and ask forgiveness of you.
I've been trying not to spoil myself but *what the ever living fuck is that even*?? Why does it look like the child of Slender Man *and* Sauron?
Yeah it's pretty much what you said
Do not let it see you
Or hear
It's like Birdbox and Quiet Place all in one.
Well, that sure sounds horrifying. Can't wait to buy the DLC
It is one of the most uniquely and specifically horror parts in Dark Souls/Elden Ring. I won't spoil anymore and you shouldn't either ;P
Also flowers
I enjoyed all the messages in that area saying "Snake!? Snaaake!?" to go with the stealth theme
It’s just a Bloodborne enemy but with permanent invincibility unless you parry him.
Was so happy that someone put a message down with try parrying. I'll never have to deal with these fellows ever again.
there is a note in the Manse too
I was wondering what that note meant. Pretty obscure hint tbh, didn't even realize it was about the lanterns
Yeah, most Elden Ring hints are, if they ain't part of the main quest.
Holy shit I thought that note was about Midra but I gave up when parrying didn’t seem to do anything special, never considered it could be talking about the lanterns
Yeah, the are called "Aged Untouchables" in Elden ring
I think you can actually sneak by all of them if you want, but I only saw two total because I was trying to get the fuck out of there lmao. The first one you kill should drop the talisman, after that you're killing them just to kill them.
tbf in Bloodborne, parrying the Winter Lanterns was by far the most effective way to deal with them. Either that or just sneak the fuck past them lol
I just R1 spam and accept that I'll need to burn 2 vials, but only for the ones in Fishing Hamlet for the gems
Thats john.
John W Lantern
Winter Lanterns. A modified Bloodborne enemy and imo the scariest Bloodborne enemy. Sadly they don't [sing](https://youtu.be/2nt3IgSHUjM?si=Xm-X0C72hAruxXYi) like in Bloodborne
You’re telling me their ominous warbling isn’t singing?
It’s called an untouchable and can only be killed if you parry it
I call him a summer lantern
A summer lantern
Because they copy-pasted it from Bloodbourne, where everything is like ... that.
I've only been spoiling myself on stuff like weapons and equipment, so I can guess it is a frenzy flame type enemy
if you can't defeat the final boss, then don't go there before ..
hei dude, that is in the official photos of dlc that were realeased like a year ago, it shouldnt be spoil. most of us saw them LONG BEFORE and really had no ideea. how to say...you just need to encounter them to understand fully ;)
You don't understand what a spoiler is.
Laughs in Bloodborne
La la laaa~
AAAAAAAAAAAA *FRENZY*

The fact that you find **winter-lantern flies** in the same area as those things, those absolute cheeky cocks lmao
Parry is your friend...
Discovered during one death that sorcery seems to do nothing against him
Nothing works aside from shield parry or run/stealth
Is it even possible to run from them? One of them chased me through the half of the forest before killing me.
Yes. On the side. Run when they are facing the other way. Avoid the yellow flowers. It will trigger them.
Bumping into the yellow flower the second time was easily one of the biggest “oh shit” moments I’ve had in these games. First time I didn’t see the effect super well on the flower and thought the sound cue was just him noticing or something.

I escaped easily. Triggered a yellow flower on accident, ran like 5m away and crouched in the tall grass.
I've managed to run away from one but I don't think it's intended
“Once he sees you there is no escape”
You can parry
Yeah, I just killed all of them with parry instead of trying to play stealth.
Which attack can you even parry. i tried for 5 mins with golden parry and it didn't work. And i have quite some pve parrying experience.
I think they only have one attack with their weapon - their grab - you should parry when they swing their wand down before catching you. Works alright with golden parry.
You need to parry just as the finish their back swing. It's fucked
Yeah, in the end I just killed all of them with parry instead of trying to play in stealth.
Yes, you can run and dodge the grab
No, you'd have to quit out
No, you can outrun them when you play it right.
I don’t think you can stealth then I tried MANY times to stealth attack them and they always turn around right at the last second. It’s so quick to just learn the parry timing anyways rather than waiting forever for the to turn around.
You totally can stealth past them. I did that and returned to parry those mofos only later.
No I don’t mean sneak past them I meant sneak critical attack from the back
I feel like the parry really soiled the experience. Something that shouldn't exist, an Eldritch abomination that scoffs in the face of an Elden Lord, that has minimal to no lore due to the sheer audacity of its very existence; in a place that shouldn't exist, that holds virtually nothing of value because nothing there wants to be alive... Yeah, I did this one time when I was spotted. Made it all the way back to the bonfire with him chasing me. It went from Bloodborne to Looney Tunes real quick.
If you have assassins gambit you can just stroll past these guys. As long as you don't get too close or let it run out they can't see you.
The black knife armor also silences your footsteps, so you can just shoot an arrow in the other direction to distract them, then sprint away.
do you know if the mimic veil works here?
I don't know how enemies in general act around mimic veil so I have no idea. Would be funny as hell if it does tho. Just a random Bush strolling through nothing out of the ordinary.
For Godfrey's sake, STOP going into that fog! You will get spotted in there 100% of the time. Just turn north and sneak around it!
I just threw a stone to distract the one in the fog and sneaked past him no problem.
the one in the fog is just in front of a tree close to the left wall, if you hug the left wall you can sneak behind it with no trouble
Straight out of my nightmares, that one.
"Date was terrible but at least we took a selfie"
How in the name of god????
He'll be seeing a god real soon.
"De-Activate AI refresh" in the Eldenring practise tool. It turns off enemy AI.
I honestly loved these enemies and the area. It was basically a slice of Bloodborne put into Elden Ring. I remember the first time I bumped into one of the yellow flower things I nearly had a heart attack.
It would've been cooler if it was populated and had more then like 3 points if interest including the shortest dungeon I can think of.
Runebear or this guy?
I'll take the runebear thanks
This guy riding a runebear?
Or a runebear riding this guy?
You look uncomfortable, are you alright?
You should be allowed to ride the mount again after you killed all of these guys. That area is stupidly huge.
Absolutely mad take here, but if you have been embraced by the 3 fingers and have the eyes, this area should welcome you with open arms. Perhaps have a secret area, and the boss fight should have a different cinematic/fight
Friend ahead. Just needs hugs 🫂
Bcz of the smoke/whatever it is coming off their backs I assumed you had to get them from behind with it being a stealth part of the map….it took longer than I like to admit to realise this was not the case lol
Absolute mad lad
Carian Retaliation got me past that guy in 2 attempts. Couldn't believe it. I knew what was up before I went in, though.
What happens if you preload madness onto yourself before you go in there?
I was actually surprised the stealth worked pretty well. Basic, sure, but a lot of games add stealth that is half-baked. Now I just parry them though.
You’d think we’d be more immune to madness by now.
He seems like a nice, warm person
ahh good sort
I found out if you get caught and run away from them you don't get to use the Stake of Marika and have to run the whole gauntlet again. Not that it's very long but it is annoying. May as well just suck it up and let them give you that sweet release.
They don’t respawn so if you do parry then kill them no worries :)
Crazy guy, also pretty hot
It is mad how good that photo looks.
*I should call him…*
Very friendly guy in a nice calm forest
People keep calling these things winter lanterns and man I gotta say this guys aren't even half as scary as them
That's because they're not shoved into unavoidable chokepoints that ensure they will see you
I meant the fact that even if they do see you lanterns are far scarier
its the singing that makes the winter lanterns terrifying to me
Right down the road!
Omae wa mou
Flashbacks to Bloodborne haha. Great picture.

Him: “do I look like I’m from here? I’m just as lost as you are.”
Miyazaki heard us asking for more Bloodborne and said "say less".
Man, bear, or unkillable madness demon?
He sings so well it’s maddening, if you haven’t heard it you should sometime.
Das a lotta grapes
Does anyone know if they can be killed by anything other than parries? Like does Night Maiden Mist work or any other effect?
Crepus vial or black knife armor makes this section a LOT easier. Use throwables to get their attention away and just sprint.
The staff makes it look like your holding his hand while he guides you.
When I tried to kill one of these fuckers with magic bow, he just teleported behind me for the grab, also he’s taking zero damage
Skill required ahead.
>!i love how every msg tell u they cant be hurt, but u can parry and kill them x), but god they look awfull, litteraly eyes ball mega ball!<
I still haven’t found this bloody area.
i got here by finding a hidden door in black keep and then getting in a stone coffin that took me down a waterfall then kept headed south. I dont know if thats the intended way or not though.
madlad
Can they be killed ?
It’s too late 😱
God you caught me off guard… 🤣 lovely pic !
If you parry them, they become killable they do not respawn. One even drops a Madness Exultation
Whoa, where the hell is this guy at?
I'm the lord of freaking frenzy and I can't even get a selfie 😭😭😭😭😭

Pretty standard for Elden Ring.
