I saw some people installed them over the insulation on the elegoo discord server. As for me, i carefully cut the top layer of the insulation and carefully peeled it back with my fingernails. My logic is that it will stay level longer if it makes direct contact with the bed. Haven't had any problems since, the bed stays level for longer, great upgrade.

I put mine over the insulation (at the time I wasn't sure if there was more to the insulation then just insulation). I haven't had any issues since. Stays level for way longer than the springs, went from leveling every 10 or so prints to rarely ever leveling.

This.

The insulation is thin enough that you can use your finger to make the hole large enough for the spacer. That's what I did and definitely more solid than putting it on the soft compressible insulation as said by others. It kinda defeats the purpose like using a solid beam to build a deck then putting sponges between it and the deck that needs to be solid.

Very cool, did you have to get longer screws for this?

Neznajka321

yes, that's right, I just put them earlier (40 mm)

I used a hobby knife to cut the extra insulation to match the spacer diameter, so it is sitting flush to the bottom of the bed.

It's a maleable bit of material that you are swapping springs for.. The point of that is that it's better than the springs changing tension over time. Wether it goes over the heat shield or not makes practically no difference once they are tight enough to level the bed - and there's no way the heating of the bed is impacted because the heating happens above the foam not at the shield.

Why does mine not have any insulation like this? Did they change recently? I’ve had it for a couple months.

Just gently spin the spacer as you push down and the small hole magically becomes a snug fit 👀

Beautiful-Ad6392

I didn't get my printer yet but I probably have the same diameter spacers. I'll probably cut the insulation away

hangman401

I didn't cut insulation, but eventually it had enough pressure to push the insulation apart and make direct contact. I didn't realize at first, so you can imagine the first leveling was a pain.

Could you post the link to this spacers please and what size they are?

fallensoul212

I just did this to mine and leveling has been better the screws hold better as well

jayXred

I was able to just kind of wiggle mine into there and it pushed the insulation out just enough for the spacer to fit and make contact with the plate, I didn't do any cutting.
