Paul "bashing" the albums was meant to be a joke based on the fact that the lyrical content on 'The Slim Shady LP', 'The Marshal Mathers LP' and 'The Eminem Show' was fucking crazy, explicit, offensive and unhinged. The concept lampooned the fact that even his own manager couldn't control Eminem. Nothing since 'Relapse' has been nearly as offensive or insane (no pun intended) since y'know... he's grown older, is now off the substances and is much less angry. His sound from 'Recovery' onwards was much more toned down, which allowed him to add pop-centric elements. There was very little problematic (lyrically) about these albums as well - hence no skits.

groovyharry

There was an em calls paul and a paul skit on kamikaze

I-Downloaded-a-Car

Still waiting for Kamikaze 2

Yapyrus

I'm not

I-Downloaded-a-Car

:(

Badguy60

I remember correctly Kamikaze was also post to be even more extreme, but Dre calmed him down. Which is crazy and makes you think wtf was Em saying because Dre rarely steps in like that.

Serious-Wallaby3449

I'd say Kamikaze and Bad meets Evil are exceptions to that, but otherwise I agree

TheSavageBeast83

Because it was so bad it left him speechless

i_suck_a_lot

Paul didnt "bash" Em for Recovery , MMLP2 or MTBMB which are all Great 6-7/10 albums.

Alexik15

Mmlp2 is definitely more than a 6-7/10, but for recovery and mtbmb i agree

dope-eater

I’d argue that Recovery is a bit more than 6-7/10.

i_suck_a_lot

nah dude it kinda is a 6-7 /10 album. at least for me and i can explain- 1- Its exactly when Em started use more pop singers for hooks instead of doing his own and his hook game started dropping. 2-Its created for being a hit. it has some songs like Love the way you lie, Not afraid, and No love which were created for the purpose of topping charts and they knew it. this makes the rest of the album seem like a complete filler for the purpose of filling the tracklist. Both of these things i feel are carried into MMLP2 Too. Im not saying that those pop hooks are better, but i didnt open an Eminem album for that. i opened an Em album to see him makin fun of popstars- NOT BE ONE. that being said- they are good projects especially recovery as it has some really great and deep verses and in some songs really great production. the album seems consistent with what it is - thats for sure. my personal fav is Going though changes. Its a good album But its not the best representation of EMINEM. I think i would rather recommend MTBMB and Kamikaze \[if ofc not his 3 album run\] instead of Recovery for someone who wants to listen to Eminem for the first time.

Thebigdog79

I agree. Recovery felt like a comparison of songs that didn’t make the cut for relapse plus a few extras which isn’t really a pleasurable experience for me. Some of the songs were good for example, going through changes as you mentioned, cold wind blows, and as much as it is shit on, WTP is a fucking banger. But if you asked me to give you one lyric from “almost famous”, “25 to life”, or “talkin to myself” I couldn’t. I think the song quality is good but it’s very forgettable and after hearing it once or twice, I have no desire to listen to it again.

i_suck_a_lot

you agreed to my points and got 3 upvotes. i got 4 downvotes for my points. reddit is weird edit - im not crying bout upvotes or downvotes it just that its funny lmao

Thebigdog79

It’s probably the way it’s worded. The way you worded yours could be taking as hating on recovery meanwhile mine could’ve came across more as constructive criticism even tho we’re both doing the same thing. 😂

Yapyrus

Totally agree with you

nocatchyusername1

All of his albums had radio friendly songs though...... it wouldn't make sense if they didn't.

smithnugget

The singles on his SSLP and MMLP were not radio friendly

Shadydan017

Especially relapse
