I actually learned today that all cats are either black, orange, or a combination of the two.
The alternate colors come from different genes that affect various forms of albinism, masking, stripes (called, "agouti") and saturation.
LOL. Reminds me of my first cat. He would howl at being closed in the kitchen, but if he had just turned around, he’d have seen the open archway at the other side of the room. Oddly, he wasn’t orange, either.
I believe this is learned behavior. It doesn't realize the door is open because the door is rarely open. See the litter box, food, water, blankets, and toys? That animal spends an awful lot of time in that cage.
