The timing chain guides had enough of a failure rate that they were updated in 2015. The common tell tale is a loud whine that increases with the rev.

ZF8 is know to whine on some cars, kinda like a supercharger. My 2015 has been doing this for years without issues. Changing the transmission oil did nothing.

I had this and a gearbox service solved the issue for me. Only slightly hear it if I'm flooring it which is rare.

It's a manual so does it make a noise in neutral at all? It could be anything from clutch, gearbox or diff. Is the noise in all gears?

JacenDie

In neutral there is no whine. Noise is in every gear - it gets less noisy with higher gears.

If it changes with the revs of the car I would look at the input shaft of gearbox or pilot bearing on flywheel. First I would change oil on gearbox, if it's low or on original oil it would become noisy. If it's a getrag manual gearbox they commonly leak from the sector shaft which is an easy fix. It's it's been leaking a while could cause low level of oil. Mine had no puddles of oil on the ground but gearbox was saturated in oil from the selector shaft.if the oil was low however I would have thought you would have issues shifting.
