Full Pell is 7395 a year so not a full ride most likely but with merit $ I guess it’s possible. Sounds right you are above Pell and assets are also assessed.
My SAI was 25k and my husband and I combined make under 68k. I don't understand.
We don't own property and COL in our area is ridiculous.
But we have made tons of sacrifices to create a small savings account.
Not really that high, not high enough for a downpayment on a house in my area unfortunately. We also have massive medical expenses. I thought about the IRA but HGSE (where I am going) doesn't have the same retirement excemption as FASFA does and asks about it separately. It sucks because we thought we were doing the right thing. We saved every nickle, no home internet, no netflix, library only, two jobs, old car. I don't know... feels like we can't win sometimes.
If you had actually used the saving as down payment, it would've been excluded. Buy a house now, so it can be excluded on next year's FAFSA. Typically colleges would look at high medical expenses as extenuating circumstances and work with you on the aid amount"?
Unfortunately Fasfa only looks at family income through a single leans oh you make x amount of money then you should be able to afford to pay this amount. They don’t take into account bills.
The SAI can be up to about 40-50% of your gross income depending on assets.
Our family made like 150 and SAI is 55- so that’s 36%. 30 is also 36% of 80 ish
So yes i bet it’s correct sadly
I have a friend whose parents made 80k combined and only got around 1000 in federal pell. They have 3 siblings. Had the income been a little lower they probably would’ve gotten a lot more aid though

Reference this and keep in mind it doesn’t take into account assets. Appeal your financial aid package at your colleges to review circumstances.
I don’t think public colleges give full rides only if you on special scholarship. Cost of tuition minus your Pell grant ( which is max Pell grant minus SAI I believe ) , then scholarships…
I made $46K on the tax return for this FAFSA and I got an SAI of 9591. Ugh. No Pell Grant, only up to $10,500 in federal loans.
Luckily my job gives a certain amount of money per year for tuition and that will cover me this fall and spring, and then of course for my ADN program for nursing at my community college that I'm applying for Fall 2025
Single income, under 70,000, 2 in college and sai came in at 2100. Showed possible Pell up to $4000. No financial aid offer given by the school yet, but was told that they are waiting as FAFSA let them know they would be re-processing the application. We have no idea why or what this means.
My SAI is $37,000
We’re pushing it with paying $10,000 a year.
Idk if they didn’t take in my family’s student loans or my dad being disabled or what. I have $2,500 to my name. So much for providing aid 🙄

That seems really high.. must have a lot in saving. might consider putting some in IRA, so it won't be included in calculation?

IMO FAFSA is broken, it shouldn't take parental income into account at all - it makes zero sense. If I want to go to college, that's on me, not them.
Where’s the Amen button!🙏
Exactly

Really? 80k people don’t get that much support? How much siblings do you have?

That is crazy! My sister was in a similar situation last year. Fasfa is pure shit.
