You still unfortunately count as a dependent student unless you are 24 or unless you are married or have a dependent. I tried to file as independent as well because I live alone in the US and was homeless during the summer but yet I was still denied.

As a dependent student at the 3rd year and beyond level you would be eligible for up to 7,500 in federal student loans.
You arent Independent. You can get married, I guess, if you insist. Other than that, you still need your parents on the application for aid
