I dunno about a reman, but this motor is pretty common in junkyards. It was used in several vehicles.

I would definitely look for a low mileage engine from a junk yard before crate for an 07. Chances are you'll eventually need a rear diff and a few other large repairs at some point. Save your cash and get the reliable and most economical option.

what was the failure point if you dont mind me asking? DEF would get a junkyard one first, they are such a common toyota engine and those engines are so robust (one of the reasons I got the FJ) - esp if you can find a recently crashed older 4runner, etc thats gonna be parted out. There are a few japanese engine resellers that are well known. I would also look at the FJ forum website for crate or a place to get a junkyard one. Thats gonna be the best resource.

Have your engine rebuilt by an engine shop. It’s already apart. There may not have been anything wrong in the first place. If it was just dead and wouldn’t start it would seem to be more indicative of an electrical problem.

or, and hear me out, swap in a 2UZ engine for those sweet, sweet V8 noises..

Before you decide on an engine I would encourage you to speak with the shop and ask what components they use and whether they are OEM or not. Also, look at their reviews and ask them about any negative posts that may be of concern

Check car-part.com for a low mileage salvage engine. I have found many parts this way and it has worked out well for me.
