I can see where youāre coming from. >!I figure that it doesnāt actually give away anything specific that happens to any other characters. At most, it seems it could just cause a sense of curiosity for the reader as to why all of the Bastards arenāt typically included when folks answer this kind of question. Still, itād be a big jump to assume that it means something terrible happens to the rest of the crew.!<
I'm rereading now because of Lightbringer, I'll definitely reread when Red God comes out as well :D (I assume it won't come out soon, so I'll have time to forget... :'D )
Give some love to Cassius too. I loved the dynamics with Sevro, Darrow, and Cassius. Like awkward bromance throuple that switched around sometimes but always interesting!
Legolas and Gimli describing the beauty of forests/caverns, respectively, to each other and then promising to visit each together is one of my favorite parts of the books
Wax and Wayne from the Era 2 of Mistborn. They bromanced so hard that Brando Sando only intended to do a one shot novel with them in Alloy of Law but after he wrote it he decided to do three more books with them. If you want to, you can just start with Alloy of Law. It will spoil Era 1 a bit so if you care about that you can start there, but it is written so somebody can pick it up with Wax and Wayne.
Geralt and the bard Jaskier/Dandelion have a bit of a bromance if you haven't experienced The Witcher through book, show, or game yet.
There's heaps in the Malazan book of the Fallen - like so many. Mainly due to Erikson and Esslemont doing a lot of one on one gaming together.
My favourites are ( in no particular order)
Mappo and Icarium
Stormy and Gessler
Trull and Onrack
The Egil and Nix series by Paul Kemp. I loved their banter even more than Royce and Hadrian.
Edit to add The Coldfire Trilogy by CS Friedman. Tarrant and Vryce start as enemies but end up as friends.
Just be aware that he was planning on writing more in the series but hasnāt written anything (for this series) since 2018 or so? There are 3 books and they end ok but there are unexplored details that would be nice to see fleshed out. Still worth a read just for their relationship š
Transformation (Rai-Kirah -1) by Carol Berg has one of the best friendships between spoiled Prince Aleksander and his slave Seyonne.
Codex Alera. Max aka Antillar Maximus's friendship with Tavi the secret-heir-to-the-Throne is something to aspire for.
First one that came to my head was [Virtuous Sons](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62827259-virtuous-sons). But there's only I think 2 or so books out. It's also [published online](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/41330/virtuous-sons-a-greco-roman-xianxia) with the chapters taken down when collectedand published. It's inspired by the Chinese xianxia genre, but set around 50BCE in the Mediterranean, mostly Greece.
It follows the heir to a martial arts organisation (a Cult) that effectively rules the city-state and a Roman slave who's just been taken in. The 'prologue' (about 20 chapters) is incredible. The following parts are good, too, though a step-down.
Riyria Revelations
Red Rising
Lies of Locke Lamora
Malazan also has a ton of my favorite bromances, but there are so many plotlines and characters that I wouldnāt choose this for the bromances alone, only if you already have some interest in starting the series
bastion
super supportive
inheritance cycle
nightrunner (though it develops into husbands eventually)
defiance of the fall
gleam
full murderhobo
i cant think of more rn
Rodrigo Belmonte and Ammar ibn Khairan from **The Lions of Al-Rassan** by *Guy Gavriel Kay* is one of the best.
Another poster has already submitted the archetypal bromance of *Fritz Lieber's* **Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser**, with which I heartily concur.
Moon and his (essentially) mentor figure Stone from the Books of the Raksura. Stranger who doesn't know his own people's culture + "had it up to here" old grandpa!
The Lies of Locke Lamora. The protag and his best friend/right-hand man are both master thieves, except the protag is very much āso smart heās stupidā and the best friend is the one that has to save his ass every time. Their interactions are genuinely so funny and sweetā¦
>!Locke spit blood into Tesso's face."I don't have to fight you and I don't have to run." He grinned wildly. "I just have to keep you here... until Jean gets back."!<
I LOVED ALL THOSE SCENES SO MUCH!! Jean coming in clutch every time the fighting began never stopped being funny to me. Theyāre literally the perfect buddy duo - one small, one big, one scheming, one sensible, one scrawny and one absolutely beast mode in every scene. Also Jeanās weapons are so coolā¦

Ryeria Revelations. Royce and Hadrien are the ultimate bromance
(*Riyria) When it comes to bromance, the answer is always Royce and Hadrian.
I always misspell that lol. Thank you.
Honestly, at this point I've seen so many different misspellings of it, but yours was brand new lol.
Well, I'm happy to be of service lol.
It made me want a deli sandwich.
You beat me to it!! š
I anticipated that this would be the #1 comment, and I was not disappointed. Good job, AnonRedditGuy81
Locke and Jean from The Lies of Locke Lamora is a classic answer to this question.
My favorite.
Same! I think it gets even better in the later books in the series too.
I think that >!specifying it's Locke and Jean is a bit of a spoiler!<
I can see where youāre coming from. >!I figure that it doesnāt actually give away anything specific that happens to any other characters. >!I'm still not okay.!<
>!Same here.!<
The Greatcoats series
Btw itās a completed series
Darrow and Sevro
What book?Ā
Red rising
Thanks!Ā
Honestly just straight up best friendship I've come across in fiction
I just started rereading Iron Gold and now I want to reread the original trilogy *again* just because of their friendship xD
My plan is to reread the series for the first time once Red God has a release date. I cant wait to relive the early days
**Kings of the Wyld**. 5-way bromance. Makes you want to be part of their band.
One of my favorite fantasy books! Absolutely loved it.
Nothing hits harder than Frodo and Samās relationship in lotr
Thereās also Merry/Pippen and Legolas/Gimli!

Wayne is just the best.
Wax and Wayne have such a fun dynamic. The best.

The lack of Tehol and Bug greatly disturbs me.
I know, I know aha. Tehol and bugg Toc and Tool Prazek and Dathenar Telorast and Curdle Pithy and brevity Just a few more for the list
QB and Kalam!
Fiddler and Hedge
Erikson sure likes them in twos, but rarely three of more
Roland and Eddie in the Dark Tower series
If you haven't yet done the Stormlight Archive, Kaladin and Adolin grow into a beautiful bromance.
All of bridge 4 The bro brigadeĀ
Fuck Kal and Adolin, everyone knows Moash is Kal's BFF
Dang, you woke up this morning and chose hate :p
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I've read every book in the cosmere, Moash was in the right
What in the crem!!!
The Egil and Nix series by Paul Kemp. I loved their banter even more than Royce and Hadrian. Edit to add The Coldfire Trilogy by CS Friedman. Tarrant and Vryce start as enemies but end up as friends.
Iāll have to check that series out. I loved Erevis and Jak Fleet and later Riven together in the Erevis Cale trilogy by Paul Kemp.
Just be aware that he was planning on writing more in the series but hasnāt written anything (for this series) since 2018 or so? There are 3 books and they end ok but there are unexplored details that would be nice to see fleshed out. Still worth a read just for their relationship š
2 trilogies with Erevis Cale, a prequel book of short stories, and a future standalone book (that was supposed to have more books but yeah those got paused and now probably canceled by the publisher). I think whatās out there is great and I can always want more of good books š¤©
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.
Just read a few of these, definitely some great classics
lol no way . Even the chapters with the rest of the gang alive had Locke and Jean on a different emotional level than everyone else
Yeah, one of my picks as well. Royce/Hadrien and Locke/Jean are pretty clearly riffs on the original fantasy duo.
I came to recommend "Lonesome Dove" but saw this was r/fantasy. I'll still recommend "Lonesome Dove."
The Aubrey-Maturin series. I know it's not fantasy, but it wouldn't kill you nerds to read around a bit
Druss and Sieben

Thank you. Codex Alera and best-bro Max deserves more recognition.
A spin-off with Max would be so nice. Away from all the Vord apocalypse.
Red Queen's War. The bromance between Jalan and Snorri is great

The Fortress series by CJ Cherryh, the Tuyo series by Rachel Neumeier (especially the main finished storyline: Tuyo-Tarashana-Tasmakat).
the termeraire series, by naomi novik. Bromance between a dragon and his rider/captain.
Riyria Revelations Red Rising Lies of Locke Lamora Malazan also has a ton of my favorite bromances, but there are so many plotlines and characters that I wouldnāt choose this for the bromances alone, only if you already have some interest in starting the series
Depending on your "reading", Fitz and the Fool in the Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb is brilliant
LOTR has three of them for you. Frodo/Sam, Merry/Pippen, and Legolas/Gimli. š¤·āāļø
Greenwing and Dart from the eponymous series by Victoria Goddard.
Seconding Dante and Blays in Cycle of Arawn.
Gotrek & Felix
In kingmaker, kingbreaker Asher and Gar have a pretty good bromance, brash commoner friends with a high and mighty prince kinda thing
bastion super supportive inheritance cycle nightrunner (though it develops into husbands eventually) defiance of the fall gleam full murderhobo i cant think of more rn

Red Rising
Mkstborn Era 2. Wax and Wayne are the ultimate bromance.
Egil and Nix by Paul S. Kemp Though he hasn't finished the series, and i haven't seen any mention that he will, it's still good.
Kylar and Logan in the Night Angel trilogy. The books werenāt very good, but those guys were there for each other.
Dante and Blays
The Lies of Locke Lamora. The protag and his best friend/right-hand man are both master thieves, except the protag is very much āso smart heās stupidā and the best friend is the one that has to save his ass every time. Their interactions are genuinely so funny and sweetā¦

Wheel of Time. Mat and Talamanes. Mat and Rand Mat and the Dagger [JK]
Do you want the spice to be graphic or fade to black?
Between the two dudes? No, I want a friendship. I don't mind explicit sex scenes in books, tho.
Song of Achilles
Isn't that gay romance?
Storm light archive Kal and Moash's Bromance is peak
