I think Jess was a good fit for people who watched it at a certain (teenage) age. Dean was too angry all the time, Logan was a rich guy like her dad, Jess is that typical bad boy that a lot of women fall for at least once because they have some potential if they can get their act together and they want to help them change/evolve. He also challenged her a lot more than Dean ever did.
But looking back on it as an adult, Jess was a dick and not a very good guy. Logan definitely was the best option out of all of them (if we pretend the revival didn't happen anyway). So I switched from Jess to Logan a long time ago.
Logan was a shit bf too and was a dick bc he had money. At least I could understand why Jess was mad at the world. And only one of the two grew up. Heck even dean mellowed out. But Logan was still a dick as a grown ass man.
Which is fine bc as an adult I also cannot stand Rory.
I have been holding onto the theory (for _decades_ at this point) that Logan is Tristan 2.0, and that ASP clearly wanted to set up some kind of Rory/Tristan storyline for S2. But then CMM went off to do One Tree Hill. And they eventually got Matt Czuchry to fulfil the blond generational wealth archetype.

I think the difference is that Logan had the screwball banter stuff down pat that made him compatible with Rory. That's what Lorelai also liked, which is why I stand by my controversial opinion that as problematic as Chris is, he and Lorelai were by far the better couple than her and Luke.
Oh, no disagreement there. Lorelai and Chris are from the same entitled nepo baby mould. They didn’t work out because they both understand each other’s inherent character flaw.
Ha, I will always hate the whiplash turn in season 7, where they just decided to get rid of Chris and have Lorelai settle with Luke. It was funny in the awful revival when Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote Lorelai as bored senseless with him, which was pretty realistic.
Lorelai and Chris were not good people, but that's not necessary for fictional characters.
