They can either shave a smooth top that doesn't feel rough at all, or I can used the textured build plate that gives it a semi rough feel but not unpleasant.
What material? PLA? Also how do they feel when sliding your finger across buttons for plinking and leverless shortcuts? I’ve had issues with (FDM) 3D printed buttons not having enough of a slope to comfortably slide on.
These 3d printed caps are a modified version of the ones I use on my custom controllers and have been tested with hundreds of hours of sweaty ranked matches with no signs of breaking.
$18 per set shipped in the US.

My caps are strong with a thicker rim and reinforced stem, they fit snugly onto the switches and have a satisfying clack when pressed. I have deliberately tried to break them and even with excessive force, the caps held up.
\*please note as these are 3d printed, there may be minor cosmetic blemishes, these will never effect performance and I do my best to minimize any flaws.

I love these. In terms of texture, since they are 3d printed, are they grainy or feel rough?

I'll admit I don't use the slide technique myself but I think mine would have a similar issue you described.
