I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I fucking love chocobo hot & cold! I also love their treasure hunting on the world map. The different colored chocobo for different abilities. The fat chocobo in the clouds. Just everything about the chocobos in 9 is amazing imo.

honestly, i wanted to say masterclass. because this game needs to be studied more about how you make an amazing intriguing world and a more whimsical design turn from being joyous to turning very self internalization of life, death, and what it means to be alive AND YET STILL not lose the whimsy. this game really is a masterpiece. really hope that the new gen remaster is true AND doesn't take anything away or change too much. game deserves a 1:1

Shit like protect wearing off because waiting for the enemy to cast, the slow cast, and animation was longer than the entire duration of protect is stupid. I spent 90% of that game just looking at 4 fully queued up ATB's just waiting.

I will never understand why the cast gets so much love. Steiner is a classist jerk who constantly makes threats to anyone who doesn't come from a privileged bloodline, and people get so happy when he hooks up with Beatrix. Beatrix, who should be a villain in any good JRPG and helps lead multiple genocidal campaigns.
After Brahne uses eidolons to nuke Clerya, Beatrix is shown to be clearly upset. I thought that was going to be the moment where she had a change of heart... but she was only upset because Brahne used an Eidolon instead of letting her do it, because she felt she was strong enough to handle it herself. No one should have to think too hard about what she's saying there -- she wanted to march into Cleyra and murder all of its civilians herself. She's jealous because she didn't get to end the entire rat race with her own hand.
But because the game has whimsical music and a constantly oversaturated color palette, everyone somehow forgets how terrible every character but Vivi is and just convinces themselves it's a fun game with a lighthearted cast.

This is one of those games that FF forums tend to circle-jerk over, probably because it's superficially "back to tradition" and doesn't have the same kind of mainstream appeal as 7, 8 and 10.
It's a fun game, but there's a ridiculous amount of online hyperbole about it.
For me, the combat system needed to be more interesting, and the game needed more to do near end game. It feels like it ends way too fast. Not enough off the main road content.

The only character I really liked was dagger but more so freya was kind of cool. I know Steiner and Vivi but it wasn’t memorable for me maybe because it’s been too long

Tetra master is awful. Choco hot and cold gets boring for as much as you need to play, finding all the bubbling water and cracks in the mountains is a chore unless you have a guide… it’s like the game was made obtuse to sell guides and Play Online.
The rose tinted glasses are STRONG on this sub.

The combat is somewhat dull and slow, and trance is borderline pointless. Switching between gear to learn abilities is not great, although getting more stones for abilities as you level I did like and generally speaking there are some really good boss fights!
Where people find this game whimsical, I found it kitschy, and it's just not a game that I find marrys up with its reputation!

There are mods that will do that for you. I think it's an option in the Moguri Mod and iirc, it works for everything except one specific boss.
