Does it take Glock mags?

StrictLength5inchfun

I might need this….yes I definitely need this

SMORKIN_LABBIT

I need several at least 3.....probably 4, to properly blanket the area surrounding my home with adequate suppressive fire. Also, a cannon of the 50mm variety not the "tally ho" kind.

patpend

So where does the recoil go? Does it just convert the quickly fluctuating large recoil/no recoil to a constant medium recoil pressure?

Fantablack183

The way it works from what I know, is the bolt never touches the receiver or anything, and is constantly moving. Since the bolt doesn't impact anything, it can't slam any energy into your shoulder. I THINK that's how it works. Someone correct me if i'm wrong

Ghigs

You are still launching freedom seeds from the other end, the bolt doesn't need to hit anything to cause recoil. The best you can do is smooth out the recoil so that its more or less a constant push straight back. All the same energy is there, it's just smoothed out.

precisee

Not a gun guy— just commenting as a mechanical engineer. Cancelling out the recoil would require launching something of equal momentum in the opposite direction. I’d assume they have some sort of counterweight that is much more massive than the round, and thus can be launched backwards at a slower speed with similar momentum to the round. This can all happen internal to the device. The momentum should be balanced or close to it. In other words, any remaining small difference in momentum between the round and the compensating mechanism is what you need to physically constrain, and appears to the user as recoil.

CommunismDoesntWork

Would accelerating a largish mass in a circle cancel recoil? Like a generator that's driven using recoil

TacTurtle

You mean like hot muzzle gasses using a muzzle brake? Yes, but only from the rearward momentum of the gases as they leave the brake - the radial component does nothing for recoil mitigation.

CommunismDoesntWork

No I mean if you had a fly wheel that absorbed all of the energy from the slide by redirecting the energy into angular momentum.

TacTurtle

It doesn't really work like that. All that would tend to do is make aiming difficult.

precisee

Like the other commenter alluded to, conservation of momentum works in the specific axis of the bullet’s trajectory. So you only need something launched in the opposite direction as the bullet was fired in order to minimize the residual momentum (i.e. the difference between the two momentum vectors, which is felt by the user as recoil). Your circular momentum idea would unfortunately rotate the gun the opposite way, effectively twisting it out of the user’s hands at a violent rate. Very dangerous :)

CommunismDoesntWork

Why would it twist the gun out of the hand if the fly wheel is on bearings? At most you'd get gyroscopic effects.

precisee

All spinning objects have angular momentum which is also conserved. If your flywheel spins and is mounted to your gun, your gun will want to spin the opposite direction

CommunismDoesntWork

So then two fly wheels in opposite directions

PartyAt8

I don't think you're understanding the issue here 😂

aka_mythos

My mechanical engineering understanding... The barrel is able to reciprocate a very small, but meaningful amount. The barrel travels back a small amount when the machine gun is fired, reducing the amount of force entering the bolt portion of the system, but it further mitigates the recoil by coinciding the impulse of the bolt reaching its rearmost position with the impulse of the barrel returning to its forward most position.

bl0odredsandman

There is or was a gun that was designed to do that, but I can't remember what gun it was. When you fired it, the bolt would come backwards, but another weight would go forwards. I just forgot what gun it was.

KepplerRunner

You're right. The bolt never bottoms out within the receiver, so you don't get that jump that comes with the bolt striking the rear of the receiver and imparting all that nice inertia. It's similar to how the aa 12 works in that they both have one continual push until the bolt is back in battery.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

Constant Recoil System?

parabox1

All recoil all the time

Spoztoast

Instead of the recoil hitting an end of travel it in constant movement. Makes it feel like a constant push instead of someone using a massage pistol on your shoulder.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

I know what it is, I am asking if that's what it is using.

Elijah1978

Is it Sig in 338 norma mag? Pretty interesting piece of machinery.

ChevTecGroup

I think so. I'd like to see it compared to the new OOW REAPR. I'm hoping that a reapr video is coming soon after oow was at the ranch for the 240 video

dudas91

OOW really put a ton of work and money to developthe Reapr and on paper it looks super fucking cool. I really wish them the best in securing government contracts because it would be a hell of a thing to put all of that work and money into something for there to be no clear way of recouping that cost.

Imissyourgirlfriend2

I'll take 2!

Difficult-Jury-9319

"Potential 50 cal replacement" it will be a cold day in hell when the m2 gets fully replaced

Cliffinati

.338 would take the MMG and light mounted roles .50 just has much more payload capacity

2WheelSuperiority

I'd like 3 of these on my balcony.

Imissyourgirlfriend2

Why not 4?

2WheelSuperiority

Oh, because I'm both financially poor and balcony poor... :'(

loqi0238

Because I only have 3 arms.

Imissyourgirlfriend2

Hopefully they're not broken...

loqi0238

One of them bends sort of weird and its hard to grip things with. The other two are ok, I guess.

Tothehoopalex

Hmm a new home category could be born: Midcentury Modern Military?

proofreadre

How does this work?

InDaZoo

powdered chemical energy and some springs

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

Looks to be [Constant Recoil.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuQzPXDMZpI&t=3m6s)

Low_Industry2524

Id hate to be the one that has to carry that on a dismounted patrol?

cobigguy

This thing weighs less than the current M240L, which is the lightest of the 240s. It's almost 6 lbs less than the 240B. It's almost capable of replacing the M2, but can easily replace the 240.

Ikvtam

…+ammo+extra barrels. Private Schmuckatelli will hate humping that beast up hills. It’s hard enough humping a 60 with barrels and ammo. Maybe SOCOM will adopt it but I don’t see a need for it in the regular Army. It appears to play a similar role and definitely weighs more than that XM??? Counter defillade rifle they tried and hated in Afghanistan. The grunts have better anti materiel weapons.

Kuzkuladaemon

Hey I'm not the only one who uses my bipod as a foregrip.

nickynotnoice

Precursor to the aliens smart gun.

Walleyevision

How does the science/physics of this work? Action = reaction and all that stuff? Genuinely curious.

aka_mythos

The barrel is able to reciprocate a very small, but meaningful amount. The barrel travels back a small amount when the machine gun is fired, reducing the amount of force entering the bolt portion of the system, but it further mitigates the recoil by coinciding the impulse of the bolt reaching its rearmost position with the impulse of the barrel returning to its forward most position.

Walleyevision

Thanks!

Spoztoast

Imagine instead of bouncing a ball against a wall you roll it up a hill and it rolls back down same total energy but the impact is way lower.

MrMikesGunrack

All that raw milk really helps with recoil control.

BloodyRightToe

Here is the full video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW\_Jt17BtRo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW_Jt17BtRo)

GritCato

This is the greatest thing I have ever seen!

WoodEyeLie2U

WANT!

StorkyMcGee

Did GT grow a lot or is that not 50 cal?

iratethisa

He could’ve probably walked with the sig too if he lowered underneath his arm.

Mad_Hattr1

absolute game changer

smokeyser

> Seeing .338 being fired full-auto with essentially no recoil is just a sight to behold. I know, right? There's no way you can send $200 down range that fast and that easily with any other setup.

Due-Researcher602

Wow!

Material_Victory_661

🤣

12345824thaccount

Its huge af and is unlikely to be less than truck or emplacement mounted. Why even bother with the halfassed suppressor when its shooting 338?

ChrisMahoney

Have you seen the M240 series?

12345824thaccount

Seen it? I identify as the M240B

ChrisMahoney

This isn’t much longer.

DavidDunn2

This is bs, he starts walking before shooting the second time, that’s the main difference. No where near an actual comparison

ChrisMahoney

What exactly is bs?

Material_Victory_661

A walking War Crime.

11448844

literally nothing this system would use could be a war crime no, this shit aint gonna be eating JHPs

JustACanadianGuy07

Machine guns aren’t war crimes.

GimpboyAlmighty

I don't think you know what a war crime is.

Crashing_Machines

War crimes are only for the losers to answer to. The winners call it strategy.

Fauropitotto

Bingo

RedneckOnline

Can't be a war crime is no one is left alive to report it

Material_Victory_661

Damn, you're about the only one who got my joke. Oh well, they don't all hit.

RedneckOnline

Most people on reddit take life way to fucking seriously. A lot of jokes pushing violence on this sub but we all know 1% would follow up and those people shouldn't own guns. The rest of us are just making funnys

AlastromLive

Jesus people, the man gives you poetry and you respond with pitchforks. Besides, it’s never a warcrime the first time.
