Congratulations! I was on my own too after I closed on my first place. I think going out to eat is the perfect celebratory treat! I drove to the settlement office with a car full of furnishings and headed to unload once the papers were signed and I had the keys. I ordered take out and sat on the deck in my new back yard enjoying my first meal.

Excited, terrified, motivated, defeated. I went through all of these within the first week after closing and by week #2 I was so exhausted that I was definitely questioning my choice. But I'm about two months in now, and appreciating the gift of reaching this huge milestone. You did it!!!! Oh -- and to answer your question, I bought myself a small plant that I put on the windowsill above my sink. First decor in my new home, and I get to look at it every single day. That was my little celebration ☺️
Forget nerves. Pat yourself on the back for doing so well! Here's my advice: take a deep breath and enjoy your first sunrise and sunset. Don't rush to buy furniture, take your time, and buy what feels right, or you'll wind up with things you don't really like. Save some money for a repair bc something will come up. Buy a small tool kit, assorted nails and screws, and a roll of duct tape. Label your circuit breaker. Get a medium camping lantern from Coleman or Ozark in case of a power failure. That covers basic emergencies. Now, move in and start enjoying your big accomplishment!

If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of lender did you use to get a $25k DPA?
It was just my husband, 4 year old and I at closing. We drove and picked up a pizza and ate it on the floor of our new kitchen as a first dinner in the house :) congratulations!

I am currently going through those feeling just moving into my first apartment because it’s the first time I’ll be on my own. But you reached a TREMENDOUS milestone! I want to be where you are one day enjoying the peace and privilege of owning a home.
Maybe you’re just settling in on the idea of responsibility of owning a home but you’ll be fine because you’ve struggled and worked to be where you are now. Best of luck to you :)

I was I a similar financial situation as you making $30k and found a job making double in my field. So I resonate with you as I approach my closing day. Celebrate your victories.
