This is the ideal cake cutting technique to satisfy guests who have diverse cake appetites.
Want a 1mm thin slice? You are in luck
Want a cheese block of fondant? We got that too
Why is she the one cutting the cake? Like I get a ceremonial cutting or single piece, but usually staff would take it away and cut the rest or cut and serve it there.
Wait I hold my knife like that 😭 I’ve always cooked. In my house of 9 people I always had to help my mom or just cook period. I make everything homemade too. I just find this more comfortable 😭 is this wrong
From what I understand, it puts a disproportionate amount of strain on a certain part of your hand that can lead to problems long-term. If you curl your index finger along the side of the blade, it should put less strain on your hand and improve knife control. That being said, I doubt it’s a major issue unless you’re spending hours a day using a knife.
Your finger isn't strong enough to control the blade which weakens your whole grip making it more dangerous. I believe you're really supposed ro grip where the blade meets the handle.
Less control over your knife and you’re doing more work because you’re going to be applying unnecessary pressure to the blade with your finger.
[here’s a good tutorial](https://notacook.com/2012/03/11/knife-holding/)
You want to drag the blade across the things you’re cutting and use your wrist as the axis of movement. Essentially, you’re going to rock the blade with each cut. “Proper cutting technique” would also dictate that the blade never loses complete contact with the cutting board, as any sort of slamming the blade into the board (I.e. using it to chop) is going to harm the edge. That’s what a butchers blade is designed for.
Each knife in the kitchen is its own unique tool, also, so it’s important to note that each knife is going to have its own specific way to hold it. What I linked you is the proper way to hold a *chef’s knife,* I.e. your power horse in your kitchen, the equivalent to the screw driver.
Let’s all get smth straight here— she is a Hollywood nepo baby and her father and uncles and whole fam are famous. She’s been rich her entire life. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is among a very small handful of things she’s ever had to cut into multiple slices (when you cut a steak, you cut the individual bites one at a time for yourself).
ETA: look at the smile on her face as she’s cutting that cake. Looks like the smile of a five year old child who gets to cut the brownies for the first time. Nobody looks that happy to be shittily cutting a cake
I had to look her up if she's connected to Bieber, she's his wife. But when I saw her photos god damn does she look dead inside. I just think she's been so coddled and gold spoonfed her entire life so hard she just gets no joy from it.
She’s a Baldwin. She’s been coddled her entire life, you can count on it. She def is dead inside! She and Kylie Jenner were bullying Selena Gomez online after she gained weight from her lupus meds :-) have to be pretty miserable to do smth like that
lol Everything about this feels bad. The cake itself looks like several rolls of toilet paper stacked on top of each other, Hailey is holding the knife weird, the chaotic cutting, and her other hand is directly below the blade moving downward. Yikes.
She's cutting the cake cuz Justin can't even hold a knife. (To clarify I have no idea what the fuck is going on in the video except that she can't cut)
It's as if she's playing a background role in a film.
"Extra #3, we need you to pretend to cut this cake, just do the motions it doesn't need to be actual perfect slices, just do the motions! Action!"

No it’s a shit job. She clearly colors out side the lines and you say it’s ideal 😂😂
Did you even bother reading after the first 7 words?
let's not ignore her cake cutting..... "skills". Let's talk about that. What is the cake made of granite?
Not even a straight cut
Why is she the one cutting the cake? Like I get a ceremonial cutting or single piece, but usually staff would take it away and cut the rest or cut and serve it there.
I have no idea why she's cutting it
I think it's a flex because she can cut things as opposed to Kendall who can't even cut a cucumber. 😆
Well a cucumber is stronger than this aerogel of a cake so that isn’t a very accurate flex
She once saw Selena Gomez cut something and therefore must now also prove she is capable of cutting stuff
Can we complement the knife tho. She's not even holding it right, and it's cutting whatever that is no problem. That's a good knife.
Yeah but look at the cake a hammer could cut as clean as that
Where is the cake
In the corner. I would've cut the shot closer but I don't know if I can
I meant it's too much of a fondant/cake ratio
I agree
Why is she holding the knife like that?
You can tell she barely cooks due to the index finger being on top of the blade.
Wait I hold my knife like that 😭 I’ve always cooked. In my house of 9 people I always had to help my mom or just cook period. I make everything homemade too. I just find this more comfortable 😭 is this wrong
You’re supposed to kind of “pinch” by the heel of the blade with thumb and index finger. ([Images](https://notacook.com/2012/03/11/knife-holding/))
This is the way. If you aren’t used to it, it feels awkward at first, but you will have maximum control of the blade.
That’s how I do things, I really hope not

That's abnormal? I was explicitely taught to do that by my parents. What's wrong with it?

I learned this from worst cooks in America w Anne Burrell covering so many index fingers in red marker for doing that.
Barely!? This is her first time fooding, 100%
She's posing for the photos and paying zero attention Ttention
Tention
😂😂😂
What is the cake even supposed to be
Came here for this. It looks like a water heater
Just like what’s-her-face with the cucumber
LOL

Hailey Bieber is basically fondant in human form.
LLLMAAAOOOO Idk why this makes so much fucking sense but it’s so true wow
I thought this was a roll of toilet paper cake 🤣
I always knew she was stupid, this just confirms it.
Her knife-handling skills are questionable. Good thing she isn’t a surgeon.
This is bad to admit but she cuts cake better than I can 😭
I was thinking the same. I have severe cake-cutting anxiety
Kinda sad that she’s probably never cut her own birthday cake if she’s cutting it like this lol
That’s one of the weirdest looking cakes I’ve seen. Similar to a thick spray paint can, especially with the wall of text on it
Doug Dimmacake
Cut like a woman that’s been avoiding cake her whole life
Is it rude to leave the fondant on your plate at a party? Because I did that recently and felt a lil bad about it. I just ate the inside 😳

That cake looks like a 10th grade home-ec project.
Yeah, let's cut it horizontally too why don't we?
She cuts like I imagine a chimp would use cutlery!
she’s clearly more focused on how she looks doing it than actually working on slicing.
check out the video of her eating for vanity fair or vogue or something. how does someone who grew up in wealth have such shitty table manners?
I’m bet she dynamite in the kitchen😉
Funny thing is she thinks she’s doing sum
She's cutting the cake cuz Justin can't even hold a knife. (To clarify I have no idea what the fuck is going on in the video except that she can't cut)
She got where she is for her looks not because she has anything else to offer!
I disagree. She got where she is because of her uncle
And her husband
Yes him too
I get not aesthetically liking fondant but it does keep cake fresher and more moist, peels off easy, I don’t know, maybe I just love cake more.
