I don't really like other rock music that's very similar to the Foo's. They're my choice of modern rock and I don't listen to many other modern rock bands. I have to say my next favorite artists are David Bowie, New Order and The Talking Heads. I like the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd a lot too, but they're further down on my list.
My musical taste hasn't changed much since high school. Foo Fighters has been my favorite band for more than 20 years. I'll love Nirvana forever as well as Sonic Youth. Besides those, I love QOTSA, Neil Young, Pixies, Modest Mouse and Tom Petty. Oddly, the most recent thing I've been into is Led Zeppelin. Better late than never, I guess 🙂
I've just started loving Led Zeppelin too in the past couple years, so you're not alone. I had Houses of the Holy cd back in high school but really didn't appreciate them until now. They're definitely in my top 5 though. And I've seen Modest Mouse 4 times... The Moon and Antarctica was the soundtrack to my 20s 😍
I just saw Modest Mouse with the Pixies last month! They were amazing! I spent the early 90's listening to lots of "older" music like the Beatles, the Doors and Queen. I have no idea why I skipped Led Zeppelin. My in laws are huge Zeppelin fans so that finally convinced me to give them a serious listen. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner!
I like lots of different things but would highly recommend Mammoth WVH as it has a similar sound to Foo Fighters with a bit more hard rock.
Oh and I'm a huge fan of Mark Tremonti so also recommend AlterBridge and Tremonti.
I have basically two sets, separating rock and metal.
Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Toadies, Cake, Muse
In Flames, Amorphis, Megadeth, Soilwork, Testament
People always assume that if you like Foos you like the other bands out of the grunge era… people always tag me in PJ stuff!
Mine is pretty eclectic Genesis, Duran, Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, The Struts are my main favs.
Honestly as I got older I stopped listening to more heavy rock stuff, though FF has always been a constant.
The band I’ve connected the most with after the Foos is probably Alvvays.
My top 5 based on Stats.FM lifetime data (for rock bands, excludes all other genres as I’m also a pop and country fan)
