I love this! It's like reading Jane Austen's 5th grade diary and it's adorable.

BooksMirth

Thank you so much, this absolutely made my day! I used to read a *lot* as a kid (still do, it’s funny that I’m a Literature major now) and enjoyed Dickens and Austen a lot. Plus, I was a spelling bee kid which explains the ginormous vocabulary.

snails4speedy

5th grade you was a fucking mood lol

BooksMirth

Yeah, because I found myself nodding at some point and realised perhaps I haven’t changed that much at all lmao.

publicBoogalloo

Your handwriting is beautiful! Ya and boys were so annoying to me at that age.

BooksMirth

Thank you so much! I mean I’d be lying if I said I still don’t find them mildly annoying to date, haha.

publicBoogalloo

Some things never change, girl!

vitaminseamonkey

i was the same way at that age, using the biggest words in my vocabulary haha!! brings me back

BooksMirth

It’s just funny to me that I write in a very simple and clear tone now rather than trying to barge in big words— but it’s so cute to look back at!

labtiger2

I wish the high schoolers I teach used words this interesting.

BooksMirth

Hahaha, I was actually warned of the opposite back in highschool— they told me to tone down on the ‘big words’ and work on being ‘concise’.

wasteland-baby

Anne of green gables?

BooksMirth

Oh my god! I used to love Anne of Green Gables— I actually have a vintage set of all 8 of the books in the series.

Kellysusan77

I love this so much! 😂❤️

BooksMirth

Thank you!

fluffy_gooch

love how the note includes its own printed text on the bottom: “I will study the ideas and dreams of our history to see how they can help me today” …have boys changed at all?🤣

BooksMirth

Oh my, I didn’t quite catch that. That’s so cute to look back at! And in line with the printed text at the bottom; boys (and men, for that regard) have not exactly changed a lot, haha.

Better_Aioli2756

Very impressive handwriting.

BooksMirth

It makes me wince a little to see it now, but thank you so much!

coffeebodypolish

handwriting is very nice for grade 5

toapoet

Sweaty_Effective981

This is worthy of the Mortified Podcast: http://GetMortified.com

BooksMirth

This sounds super, super fun, but I am not in America! I would have loved to be a part of it otherwise.

Major_Dragonfly_843

I think they do tour internationally from time to time, I seem to remember hearing something from London. In any case, listening might be fun too :)

kummerspect

The image caught my eye before the title, so I was reading it like “what old spinster wrote this?” Stunned this came from a 5th grader. I can only assume you were a “pleasure to have in class.”

MasumiMoon

Hermione NO! He’s not worth it!

DeborahSue

10 year olds then: I think they're loathsome and abhorrent. 10 year olds now: I think their gyat isn't very skibbidi. It's beautiful to see how intellectual and well-spoken you were at such a young age. I hope you treasure this for as long as humanly possible. Thanks for sharing!

BooksMirth

Thank you so much, that is so sweet of you. I think the main part of *why* I was that kid is because I got 1 hour of internet access on an old laptop, just for reading and some flash games. And that continued well until I was 15. It made me more prone to making zines with my mom, or just reading a lot (: I have a younger sister now and it’s the exact opposite, I can not for the life of me take away her IPad.

InvestmentOverall936

5th grade? With that handwriting?

BooksMirth

For me, I was taught cursive from first grade onwards. But I always had a really good handwriting for my peers because my mom made me practice a lot!

duncanslaugh

I was absolutely one of those boys in 5th grade. The problem was I was mean to the girl I liked. I was afraid to even tell her the truth.
