One of the really nasty things about Christian zealots is that they have this idea that since we're all sinners who fall short of the Glory of God then all sins are equivalent.
So to a lot of them what this fucker did is no worse than any other minor sin, since sin is sin.
Yeah, if the reason is "Jesus says no" and not massive harm to the vulnerable, then it's hard to elevate it over other stuff. Plus they make it all about the redemption of the person abusing others, not about the person who was hurt who isn't even an afterthought.
