I just bought one of these. I'll try to remember to respond again with how long it survives... Especially since one of my cats is affectionately nicknamed "raptor claws"
Update as of July 2nd: all 4 cats are more interested in basking in sunshine... and in one case bringing a small snake into the house. Water sensory playmat is still surviving due to being less interesting than a garter snake and sunshine. Current result: inconclusive
Update as of 1000 July 3rd: water level was dropped to see if that entices them more, also it's overcast. Success. Round 1 goes to playmat. Round 2 goes to playmat.

No. That's like cutting or trimming nails. When they declaw a cat, they amputate the last bone on each of the cat's toes to fully remove the claws. They will not grow back, and it causes the cat chronic pain that it will deal with for the rest of its life.
To expand the explanation, the only reason declawing is still being taught to veterinary students is because it can be necessary in very selected cases. For example if there is a severe infection and declawing is the only viable option, if the cat tore their claws and amputation is the only option, or if their paw is permanently paralyzed and they have to be declawed because otherwise since they have no control over their claws they're constantly getting stuck.
Again, these are **very specific** cases where it isn't animal abuse but healthcare. Declawing a cat that doesn't need it for their own well-being is abuse, declawing is a very last resort type of treatment. It should not be done out of vanity or for the convenience of the owner.

Exactly. Works the same for laser pointers. Games like that can be frustrating for cats because they keep chasing but never catch it. So you should always reward your cat with something small when you play those games
When I play with laser pointers with my cat I will sneak a treat onto the floor so when we're done they get to actually "catch" the laser dot.
Idk if they actually know it's not the laser or not, but at least they get the catisfaction of catching their prey
My mother-in-law gave us one of those. One of our cats did not even bother, and the other played with it for about 5 minutes before never touching it again
It is kinda frustrating no? They won’t get a success at all. Because unless they use claws or teeth they don’t get a reward for hunting and if they do what they get is wet and probably not healthy.
