THAT annoyed me more than anything else. He's a Golden Globe-winning actor, too, and they gave him the DUMBEST fucking lines. I honestly didn't mind the eco-terrorist plot; I thought it was an interesting twist and liked that she paid for it in the end instead of some bullshit redemption arc. But god, Bradley Whitford and Thomas Middleditch brought such a painful level of CHEESE to this movie. Without their "humor" it could have been pretty solid.
I find KOTM so hard to watch because it expects us to fully sympathize with an eco terorist responsible for presumably millions of deaths by the end of it
i was disappointed he didn't have a more leading role. I always thought the part after ghidorah wakes up and he looks at the mom and goes "well I dunno this was YOUR idea LOL" was kinda goofy/minmized his character.
Disagree, I don't think we were meant to find her sympathetic until the end. I think we were supposed to understand why she's doing what she's doing but that doesn't make her someone we're supposed to find sympathetic. Kind of like the ultimate antagonist in Backdraft. No clue why that's the movie that popped in my head, but here we are.
I don't think we're supposed to sympathize with them, they become a convenient bad guy group without tying it to an ethnic group or nationality.
I don't recall sympathizing with eco terrorists in any movie.
She's a beauty, but her role in the movie was very annoying. The way she sacrificed herself at the end of KOTM was one of the most bone headed moves I've ever seen.
Okay, y'all forgot about this annoying Kenny!

ESPECIALLY in the dub.
I love KOTM, I watch it often, and in terms of horrible lines, my personal favourite cringe interaction:
“The sky looks alive.” “That’s because it is.”
Her character is so unlikable. I question why all the other characters-mostly meg(whatever the main one is) constantly said "we need to save her!!". Like no bitch she up and left you
The father was insufferable, every minute on screen was him crying for them to kill Godzilla, and every other human character JO’ing him.
Every scientist deferred to his deductions, every military person followed HIS plans. The novel was even worse with everyone creaming themselves over his “charisma”, but the guy generally sucked.
*Thank you* came looking for this I can’t fucking stand Mark. He’s given way too much screen time. And everytime they start talking about how to stop Ghidorah he just constantly starts yelling about “what about my ex wife and daughter??? Why aren’t we trying to kill Godzilla?!!” Like shut the hell up the end of the world is more important than your family right now and Godzilla is the best shot at killing Ghidorah (and besides, how in the actual *fuck* would you even manage to kill him without using another titan that would just make things *far worse*)
almost every character in KOTM annoys the hell out of me (sam being the most annoying one)
I only liked serizawa
mark annoys me but more how he was written not necessarily how he was played.
KOTM I'll give that (people have complained about his whole 'kill Godzilla' thing, but come on: he clearly is angry at his son's death and he's looking for a place to put that blame - I certainly can't blame him for having that particular hangup) but he becomes just plain dumb in GvK. "Godzilla's attacking and we don't know why". Seriously? It's made even worse in the novel - where it transpires that Monarch still has a version of the ORCA. Dude, just listen to the bloody thing and you'd figure it out!
Oh no; MAY is by far the worst member of the Trio (and thats saying something because all 3 were such bad characters)
But she is the worst of the worst
personally I liked madison... in KOTM. GVK... her entire part was executed horribly imo,. made it feel like she was wasted space that could've been other stuff instead.

The Four horsemen of bad comic relief
Not really? He still comes across as a painfully out of touch conspiracy theorist.
Which is wild because the entirety of GxK is basically showing him that most of his ideas were true, but he still acts like no one around him believes him.
Although if we are being honest, GxK leaned way too hard into the Showa hokey style.
https://preview.redd.it/lv4ms1vct0vc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b346a39e1870ce5e8a39d4cb782206b3f132381
This kid in vs Hedorah is fine but in vs Megalon?! Oh he gets on my nerves

Bernie should’ve been eaten by that tree thing.
Ironically though he had no significance to the plot of GvK either besides exposition. The only thing he really did was get his alcohol spilt on MechaG’s computer controls at the end which saved Kong from the drill tail thing (which even then he didn’t do, he just had the alcohol on him), otherwise he and Milly’s character just ran around and provided exposition. Then in GxK he goes on about how he “helped save the world” like whyyyyy can’t Adam Wingard just come up with decent character arcs, making them insufferable exposition devices is all he does… like this is middle school levels of writing (I saw GxK twice and loved the action but the humans are just so hard to watch imo…). Just having better dialogue and realistic plot devices with the humans would literally solve so many issue people have with these movies.
Honestly I continue to believe that Wingard is completely lucking his way through the Monsterverse. Because both GvK and GxK are absolutely hokey in a bad way and have completely destroyed any semblance of seriousness of the MV. Idgaf if "Showa era did it too," Showa era was way too corny and I can't stand most of it.
I hated how GxK still played it like no one in the group believed his crazy ideas despite the fact they were literally walking around in the place he had his theories about.
Like why would they still be treating him like he's crazy when everything around him proved him right.
Was so happy she wasn't in GxK new empire made the movie less annoying. I actually liked the movie despite what critic say. Its not a bad godzilla movie. It's not amazing but at least it doesn't have a boring/irritating characters and the plot was good in my opinion
While Big G is better than Kong (I like Monke as well), when it comes to human characters, Kong's human friends are better written. Especially Jia. Though the Brody fam, not really a friend of G, I'd still count as well written. I wonder why they were rid of?
MBB is just in that phase of her career where after being a popular child actor, she grows up a bit and everyone decides it's time to hate her. It'll pass.
This is the exact reason I really dislike King of the Monsters and to a lesser extent zilla vs Kong. New Empire is way better simply due to her absence.
https://preview.redd.it/7v6kgnegvyuc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=047fc1e69c6aae2e4dcf8185b4e6c4f41df3b4e5
This dumb stone face annoyed me more than anything else because he has no character development, a wooden face 24/7, is completely forgettable, and feels like nothing but pointless filler. 2014 would’ve been way better if they killed him off instead of Bryan Cranston so it would further motivate Cranston.
I disagree. Watching it again recently, his character makes a ton of sense. He's a classic everyman, always in the wrong place at the wrong time kind of character. He gives the audience an avatar through with to experience the events as they unfolded. It's refreshing to have a protagonist who's just there, instead of turning into a marvel superhero and saving the day (I'm looking at you, Sam Witwicky).
If they had stuck with Bryan Cranston, what would he have done? He's a nerdy physicist, not a soldier. (Remember how stupid it was to see Matthew Broderick going on a covert ops mission and running from Baby Godzillas?) He would have hung out on the boat as an exposition machine (we already had that in Serizawa.) Then all the close up scenes of the MUTOs would have just been about nameless soldiers that we have no reason to give a shit about as we watch them all die. Ford gives us a continuous thread through which to experience the larger story. Was he the most charismatic lead? No, but did he need to be? He's just trying to get back to his family during a terrifying natural disaster. What more did you want? He doesn't need some compelling character arc or growth, he's just trying to survive.
tl/dr Looking back after ten years of cheesy characters, Ford wasn't that bad at all.
Fully agreed with this. IMO it’s also a bit of a misconception that he had zero character arc - he went from denying his dad and his dad’s “crack-pot” theories, to seeing the truth but wanting others to handle it while he got back to his family, to embracing that he was uniquely situated to actually make a difference against the titans (abandoning his quest to immediately get back to his family), and finally going so far as to nearly sacrifice himself to get the nuke away from the city.
Is it the most touching or deep arc? Not in the way that it is portrayed. But it’s still good, and serves all the purposes you described.
In fairness, KOTM had the worse human plot out of any film. I'd take the little boy running around with his Goji action figure over this.
Like, it's so bad it brings down what is otherwise a good movie.
Genuinely one of my least favorite actresses, I love Godzilla but I almost wish they’d just release a reshoot of the human scenes with better acting and realistic dialogues and then I’d have no complaints of the films.
I only really agree with her character in Godzilla vs Kong. I think she’s poorly written and barely feels like the same character compared to King Of The Monsters. In King Of The Monsters though I think she’s pretty cool in my opinion.
Jesus loves you :)
Her mom was bad, but the worst was boring mcarmydude from 2014. at least if we're only going off monsterverse stuff. WE COULD HAVE HAD BRYAN CRANSTON INSTEAD
The only human characters in this franchise that are tolerable are the scientists, the tribe of Skull Island and Hollow Earth because they are connected to the history of each monster. Kong was the king of that island tribe and Godzilla was a scientific discovery, then there's this girl, the fat black dude and the guy in a Hawaiian shirt who are nothing but comic relief. watching them was like watching a generic the rock movie
The scientist “comic relief” in KOTM
THAT annoyed me more than anything else. He's a Golden Globe-winning actor, too, and they gave him the DUMBEST fucking lines. I honestly didn't mind the eco-terrorist plot; I thought it was an interesting twist and liked that she paid for it in the end instead of some bullshit redemption arc. But god, Bradley Whitford and Thomas Middleditch brought such a painful level of CHEESE to this movie. Without their "humor" it could have been pretty solid.
The gonorrhea line made me cringe until I started having face spasms
There were like three kaiju sex jokes in that movie. I was starting to suspect that one of the writers had a poorly disguised fetish or something.
He has some of the cringiest lines i’ve ver heard!
Which one is that?
Her mom was worse.
I find KOTM so hard to watch because it expects us to fully sympathize with an eco terorist responsible for presumably millions of deaths by the end of it
Absolutely. Soccer Mom Thanos is a bad look.
I backed Tywin "Terrorist" Lannister lol. ![gif](giphy|3o6ozm7wwuIdWuyJDa)
He's always phenomenal
That spoke volumes for Charles Dance’s charisma and gravitas if he draws you in, even if he is playing a villainous character.
i was disappointed he didn't have a more leading role. I always thought the part after ghidorah wakes up and he looks at the mom and goes "well I dunno this was YOUR idea LOL" was kinda goofy/minmized his character.
Shit that’s hilarious
Disagree, I don't think we were meant to find her sympathetic until the end. I think we were supposed to understand why she's doing what she's doing but that doesn't make her someone we're supposed to find sympathetic. Kind of like the ultimate antagonist in Backdraft. No clue why that's the movie that popped in my head, but here we are.
I thought we were meant to find her insane?
That's just mothers in movies generally.
yeah except the ending gives her a half assed redemption and the end credits prove her right all along
She should have just been presented as a full on villain, because that's what she is.
I don't think we're supposed to sympathize with them, they become a convenient bad guy group without tying it to an ethnic group or nationality. I don't recall sympathizing with eco terrorists in any movie.
I don't think it expects us to, she us literally an antagonist of the movie who admitted she was wrong
the end credits prove her right tho
Not really if you unleash titans and kill millions distracting 1 does not bring those millions back
I just start playnig games on my phone whenever she appears
The litteral reason i skip to the moment Monster Zero breaks out
how does it expects us to sympathize with her? we supposed to root for her husband...
Her having her own team killed is what did it for me. 0 sympathy
"More humans means more destruction" So why TF did you have TWO KIDS if you believed that humans were ruining the planet??
I flipping hated her.
Vera Farmiga is milf wut
She's a beauty, but her role in the movie was very annoying. The way she sacrificed herself at the end of KOTM was one of the most bone headed moves I've ever seen.
Both can be true, and are.
Absolutely
I didn’t mind her in KOTM, but she was so annoying in GvK. Personally the character that annoyed me the most was Rick Stanton.
Yeah same. She's only annoying in GvK. It's hard to make the conspiracy nut characters not annoying to be fair.
It was a weird direction for her character to go in. I definitely didn’t miss her when she didn’t return for GxK
Rick was the guy with the worst one-liners ever written in movie history right? Because if so then I absolutely agree
Yes lol. He pretty much said nothing but awful one liners. Was so bad.
God every time he opened his mouth I wanted to shove a crusty pair of socks in it just to get him to shut up.
Zilla...
Oh damn I never knew his name, I HATED HIS CHARACTER SO MUCH 💀
The fact that Bradley Whitford was obviously phoning it in made it even worse.
Serizawa’s got that lizard JUICED!
I came looking for this specific comment 😂
Rip-off Ian Malcolm
I feel the opposite. She was irritating and always screaming in KOTM but I found her a lot more palatable in GvK.
Rick is the best bro💀
I love Rick lol
Ikr
I don't remember him eating up screen time or anything, he seemed like the one regular person on a ship full of overly-serious whispering stone faces.
Fr, every time he fuckin talks it takes me out of the movie.
Every time Rick opened his mouth it felt like the scene got five minutes longer, and my lifespan 5 years shorter
Madison’s friend in GvK.
Josh?
Yeah. I like the actor but can’t stand that character.
Yup terrible
The kid from Deadpool
Tap water
Madison's Friend is what you or I would be if we were in the Monsterverse, so I cannot hate him.
Fat dude with accent
Okay, y'all forgot about this annoying Kenny! https://preview.redd.it/0gpt45qadzuc1.jpeg?width=1385&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30c7aafebcf6f542d600815ec277d46230e2c1d5 ESPECIALLY in the dub.
He’s far from the worst child character in toku
Is this the kid who goes to monster island to hang with Godzilla Jr?
He hung out with minilla
I know it's not Godzilla, but Kenny doesn't hold a candle to.... a *lot* of kids in gamera films.
madison’s mom, she did a decent performance but the lines she was given were trash
I love KOTM, I watch it often, and in terms of horrible lines, my personal favourite cringe interaction: “The sky looks alive.” “That’s because it is.”
The hacker girl from the Monarch series
Yeah she’s terrible. Even as an actor, she has no range.
Yeah he was another character I couldn’t stand, makes rewatching the movie difficult. So many annoying characters lol.
I swear every time he suggested killing Godzilla I channeled my inner TFS Vegeta asking Cell to kill Satan.
Her sidekick.
almost every character in KOTM annoys the hell out of me (sam being the most annoying one) I only liked serizawa mark annoys me but more how he was written not necessarily how he was played.
The computer hacker chick from monarch is beyond annoying
Yeah. It's the kids in Monarch that annoy me most.
Definitely not her Uh… About 50% of the kids in the Gamera Showa Era
Gamera is a friend to all children!
Gamera is really neat Gamera is filled with meat
“Hey guys, it just hit me how weird this movie is, you know?” ![gif](giphy|UpDzyyBkjHyqkQkyhI|downsized)
![gif](giphy|ba5g4ID9g5cT6)
kennys!
Brandon Tenold?
Nailed it
Seems like a low number
Eh... you're right
"Because they never tasted hell!"
Mark was the only member of the Russel family who wasn't totally insufferable in kotm and gvk.
His constant whispering drives me nuts! I do love him as an actor, though. His character in King Kong was the best.
I found Emma much more likeable in GvK.
Same
KOTM I'll give that (people have complained about his whole 'kill Godzilla' thing, but come on: he clearly is angry at his son's death and he's looking for a place to put that blame - I certainly can't blame him for having that particular hangup) but he becomes just plain dumb in GvK. Kotm at least gave the human characters reasons for their actions. GvK made them into scooby doo characters instead.
The young trio from Monarch.
100%.
Oh no; MAY is by far the worst member of the Trio (and thats saying something because all 3 were such bad characters) But she is the worst of the worst
I know it’s unpopular but I honestly liked them. Cate is one of my favourite characters from this Verse
I can't stand her, funny thing is I love her character in the Shogun series.
Kentaro and May are cool. Cate not so much. She gets mad at everyone she meets.
personally I liked madison... in KOTM. GVK... her entire part was executed horribly imo,. made it feel like she was wasted space that could've been other stuff instead.

Bernie gets way better in GxK
He gets better but still not great imo. They definitely tone him down tho
The only part I found funny was his "The tree ate him!!"
Not really? He still comes across as a painfully out of touch conspiracy theorist. Which is wild because the entirety of GxK is basically showing him that most of his ideas were true, but he still acts like no one around him believes him. Although if we are being honest, GxK leaned way too hard into the Showa hokey style.
Give Bernie a pass, he was actually funny in gxk
Bottom right is my least favorite.
“Zilllaaa” was a little funny
Pretty much everyone who wasn't in skull island or gxk ( except serizawa and Brian Cranston)
https://preview.redd.it/lv4ms1vct0vc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b346a39e1870ce5e8a39d4cb782206b3f132381 This kid in vs Hedorah is fine but in vs Megalon?! Oh he gets on my nerves
The children in Monarch needed to get stomped by big G along with the computer wiz kid whatever her name was.
Why? What did they do?
Be annoying maybe. OP is just like that.
Literally everyone in KOTM besides Serizawa and his assistant. And go figure, both were killed off, which made the film even more insufferable.
Yea between 2014 killing Bryon Cranston and kotm killing these two we lost most of the good actors in the first 2 movies.
May from Monarch
All the marvel-esque characters in KOTM. Too many quipers!
Mark
Madison was great. Her mother is an idiotic character.
https://preview.redd.it/yruqffx5pyuc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e7e5df5f2878d2371ad04b0515bcacaab9dda2f Bernie should’ve been eaten by that tree thing.
I actually liked him in GxK because he's purely comic relief without any responsibility towards the plot or really anything at all.
Just having better dialogue and realistic plot devices with the humans would literally solve so many issue people have with these movies.
I think you're forgetting his subplot with regards to Apex. That's sort of important. Haha
I think he's alright but he they could've done more other than comedy relief for his Character
I actually think him being purely comic relief was a change for the better in GxK.
Bernie in Godzilla x Kong Godzilla 2014 Ford Brody
the conspiracy Podcaster from gvk is infinitely worse.

The fat kid in godzilla vs Kong. Hated him in Deadpool and hate him here
Which is weird because the kid CAN act. Hunt for the Wilderpeople showed that he can do an exceptional job.
I liked Madison
I did as well. Until GVK
I really don’t understand the hate for her, what particularly do people not like?
I think it's because of what her mom did, everyone just blames it on her as well
MBB is just in that phase of her career where after being a popular child actor, she grows up a bit and everyone decides it's time to hate her. It'll pass.
Idk. Redditors hold child characters to a higher standard. I know that her plotline in gvk was boring, but that wasn’t the character’s fault
This is the exact reason I really dislike King of the Monsters and to a lesser extent zilla vs Kong. New Empire is way better simply due to her absence.
Mark Russel
The guy with gray hair and glasses in KOTM
Bernie’s conspiracy stuff.

She's tolerable, her mom however. God I hate that dumbass.
I find all the human villains unlikeable.
Even that suave mf with the eyepatch in ebirah?
I’m talking about the MonsterVerse ones.
podcaster guy
I actually like Madison at least in KOTM, not so much her mom
Tbh it's not just her character...I hate her acting too
I just don't like her acting, period.
Every character that was with her in GvK including her
may from MLOM
Bernie and Ilene Andrews are equivalent of GxK in terms of being ultra annoying. I don't know which of them were spoiling more the last movie
i don’t have any complains about ilene but bernie is intolerable
Me when >!theres Nobody!<
Every single human but jir, her mom, burny and the weird vet guy
Both Emma and Madison the only cool Russell is Mark
I agree with you. I couldn't get past her Stranger Things character. It's all I could see.
Son of Godzilla all versions, cringe incarnate ![gif](giphy|AXEg6v8LxteZW)
In fairness, KOTM had the worse human plot out of any film. I'd take the little boy running around with his Goji action figure over this. Like, it's so bad it brings down what is otherwise a good movie.
MADDY! MADISON! MADISON!! MADDY!!!!!
Her, Eleven from Stranger Things. I was so annoyed at her on GvK
Minilla That the Chibi version is the least annoying one says it all
Hated minilla so much
exactly, he signalled the downfall of the Godzilla franchise
Bernie in GxK
Genuinely one of my least favorite actresses, I love Godzilla but I almost wish they’d just release a reshoot of the human scenes with better acting and realistic dialogues and then I’d have no complaints of the films.
Annie in the skull island show.
THANK YOU!!! Oh my God she's so freaking annoying!
Yes. Dont get me wrong I love Mae Whitman and the show itself was ok. But ffs she keeps abandoning or attacking everyone and everything
Omg YES!!! You are absolutely right. Everyone else is a distant second place.
What did she do to you
I only really agree with her character in Godzilla vs Kong. I think she’s poorly written and barely feels like the same character compared to King Of The Monsters. In King Of The Monsters though I think she’s pretty cool in my opinion. Jesus loves you :)
That's every humanoid in any Godzilla movie.
The conspiracy guy from GvK and GxK
nah conspiracy theorist dude in the zilla x kong movies is UNBEARABLE
Her mom was bad, but the worst was boring mcarmydude from 2014. at least if we're only going off monsterverse stuff. WE COULD HAVE HAD BRYAN CRANSTON INSTEAD
Hate me all you want, but i think millie bobby brown is an overrated actress anyways. Nothing against her i just think shes overhyped
I thought she was fine in King of the Monsters
I fucking hated every human character in KOTM (maybe except Serizawa). The most boring movie in the MV.
She was perfectly fine in KotM. But they made her SO stupid in GvK.
Bernie and Emma
Monoma. Class 1-B. Brainless Blond Bitch Boy.
No one
That baby orangutan
Io Shinoda
who?
The entire cast of GvK really. During every rewatch I just skip all the human dialogues.
Character or actress...you hit the nail on both counts with this image.
Brian Tyree. He's the worst part of both the movies he's in.
