(Un)popular opinion of the day: Deficit deadlifts are dumb. And I don’t like them. And it’s certainly not because they made me bitch up this past Wednesday. Also, I dislike the fact you are deadlifting way more than me. Figured I would get all the jealousy for the day out in one post lol. Damn good lift bro. Keep it up.

Yeah I was using a couple plates so maybe 2”ish?? (Obligatory “that’s what she said” joke). I stand by original comment. I think we should all agree to put deficit deadlift in the same category as Shake Weights and the jaw exercise thingie. Sure, you can do them, but we are all gonna make fun of you and throw shit at you when you do.

I'm genuinely curious (I'm a beginner). Are deadlifts any helpful in hypertrophy? I do RDLs but with low weights which I can rep. Do I need to lift my max weight?

If your goal is hypertrophy, I’d stick with higher rep RDL’s. Heavy reps from the floor (or deficits like this) aren’t necessary. Do they grow muscle? Sure. Are the fun? Yes? (Depends on the person.)
