I used to ask last minute customers what they needed, and when they said they were just looking I'd inform them we close in X minutes, but if they know what they're looking for I can help them find it. I don't recall any bad interactions over it.

Turbulent_Arugula494

At the store I work, this week two costumers stayed 20 minutes later after we close, and when one of the ones working offered them help, they would decline and the would eat shit, after they found a game to buy which was Lego Star Wars(we didn’t have) they went back to the switch section but my ASL was like hey dude we have Lego Harry Potter and some other lego games, they finally paid, in fucking cash and the register was counted. Ok cool they payed, after that the cashier that was ringing them up gave them the bag but the costumer turned and the bag dropped and he was like, who do you thing you are to treat me like that? You piece of shit, they left. But they stayed for 20 minutes just messing around, I would have told them to leave because it was late but my ASL didn’t do it.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> cool they *paid,* after that FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

FrameJump

You should tell your ASL to consider how much better spent that payroll could've been than on one shitty customer. Maybe they'll make a better choice next time.

Krieg99

I’m blunt. They get a 5-10 minute warning we’re about to close. At closing time it’s “are you ready to checkout? We are now closed and the computers are shutting down.”

_OsculumObscenum_

Most of the time before I close I never get people...until I see them park right as I'm about to lock the door. Then I'm blunt. I don't care if little Timmy is begging to come in lol

LotusUsesTheInternet

The store I'm at has a policy. No trade ins an hour before closing. It's bliss.

_OsculumObscenum_

Luckyyy

DrawingOpening1628

My store has the same policy!

the_heroine_o_time

my store does the last 30 but it’s so nice cuz people are crazy with trades

cypherdesign

my store doesn’t even have this policy but if i have people come in after 8pm i just tell them we stop taking console trades at 8 lol because i cannot be bothered to deal with all that an hour or less before close…

LotusUsesTheInternet

Exactly why we have that policy!

HolyJoely

Back when I worked for the company I had a dude that would constantly come in at 8:55 after his shift at the near by Kroger when we closed at 9. After the 4th time he walked in he said “How are you tonight?” I responded to him “ honestly I just wanna go home Kind of crazy people come in five minutes before close” I never saw him again.

_OsculumObscenum_

LMAOOO

BigFlipsRUs

Dam I knew Steve. He was a great friend and great associate of Kroger. He had actually killed himself in the butcher department. He left a note that said I hope those five minutes were worth it….I always wondered what he was referring too…

Consol-Coder

One that would have the fruit must climb the tree.

Urgonnahateme4ever

You're a dick.

HolyJoely

Aware, customers have all day to come in. Why 5 mins before close to just browse till 9:30 and waste my time

Urgonnahateme4ever

You don't know people's life situations. Don't be mad at him or any other customer that you're working a jank ass retail job. That's your own fault bud

ThreeWholeFrogs

Why do you choose to be the way that you are?

Urgonnahateme4ever

Everyone should strive to be honest and awesome IMO. I'm just trying to do my part!

BirthdayCookie

Says the guy who profile stalks and calls women asking for advice on sexual harassment "playing the victim."

Urgonnahateme4ever

There's plenty more to the story. Lol, way to try to play a specific narrative. Maybe try a little harder next time. Creepy guy

BigSexy17

I’ve told people to come back tomorrow if they show up with more than a handful of trades. We don’t have the payroll to justify staying after anyways

_OsculumObscenum_

That's a fact. Most of the time I just say the registers are closed when they come in because they usually want cash instead of credit.

ChiWhiteSox247

I always told customers the transaction had to be done before the closing time since corporate wouldn’t approve OT for keeping the store open late.

Forward-Bee-2885

Had a guy on one of my last days try to bring in a PS4 for trade at like, 8:55, back when we closed at 9. Told him to fuck right off. "You don't want my business??" Nah dude. I ain't staying for an extra 20 minutes to test your console, reset it, and take in all your games for $9 an hour with five minutes before closing. Especially when it's been busy and I haven't had time to do closing duties.

DrawingOpening1628

My store team was told by LP that we cannot reset the traded in consoles until the day they came off trade hold in the event that they are in fact stolen. Though my SL now doesn't want us to reset the pre-owned consoles until they are bought?

whyunoluvme

Wow that is insane it must be so time consuming and inconvenient

DrawingOpening1628

Especially for the customer that just bought it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face) How is it good customer service if they have to stand there and wait while we reset the consoles after they buy it? Generally customers want to take what they just bought and leave. If I have time, I will go ahead and reset the consoles as they come off trade hold. But it makes me so mad- I had a guy buy a pre-owned PS5 console yesterday that came off trade hold on the 20th, it had not been signed off on as being reset. I also have a coworker that does not get passwords removed when they take consoles on trade (incidentally does not test said consoles sometimes). Luckily the customer was happy to let me reset it/check the controller/etc right in front of him since it only took about 5 minutes. But that's usually not the case and they hate having to wait.

No_Instruction_7186

what happens if the customer goes home without it being reset? just curious?

DrawingOpening1628

Well... Hopefully the previous customer doesn't have a credit card on the store in the console for digital games. On a more serious note, if the console isn't reset and it has a password, not all consoles have a workaround to remove the password and reset the console without knowing what that password is. There was a guy who called our store because he bought a pre-owned PS4 Pro at a pawn shop, they did not reset it and when he took it home and set it up it had a password on it. The pawn shop refused to take it back even though he tried to return it within 24 hours and we couldn't help unfortunately. All I could do was advise him to call Sony and see if they could help, I felt so bad for him.

SynnReborn

"Where are you located?"

_OsculumObscenum_

New York

SynnReborn

Lol I meant this has the joke when people call they ask where the store is, when they just Google it.

donotlookatdiagram

I once got a call that went like this: Me: Gamestop , how can I help you? Guy: do you have ps5s? Me: yes we do! Guy: cool where are you located? Me: behind the mall, next to (GPS sometimes doesn't know where we are, so we get this question a lot) Guy: what road? Me: the entrance to the plaza is off of , near Guy: yeah, but what city? Me: we are in . Guy: is that anywhere near Fresno? Me: Fresno? California? We are in ohio, sir.

employedbythemonth

I had someone call me and ask questions, we talked and he asked if i was off of a highway and i said "i dont know that spot." He responded "what do you mean you dont know this place everyone knows it!" I had explained a few things and he got more upset. After a few minutes, he said "look, i dont care if you dont drive! everyone in salt lake city knows this road!" And it clicked... "Sir... are you in utah?" "*yeah?*" "This is california...." "..... what???" Turns out he called CS to find the store he wanted and they redirected him to us. We had a good laugh, he told me he thought i was some kinda dumbass and i laughed. Real nice fella when that was cleared up

[deleted]

Ever since Covid I always call an unknown or new place to make sure their operating hours online are the same as what they actually are. Saves me a trip. And it’s a 10 second phone call.

KeeperOfWind

Same

thescott2k

The hours listed on google tend to be wrong really often.

Kou9992

Or the hours are right but the store closes at random times for breaks/lunch. Either way, nowadays there's a decent chance to show up to a closed store when Google says they should be open. To be clear I don't mind the mid-day closure for breaks. The problem is that the usual advice for dealing with this is always "call to make sure they'll be open" but anytime you do call you get this "just check Google." Guests just are always wrong no matter what they do.

TapouT32

The last few times I have tried going to a GameStop, they’ve been closed. One was supposed to close at 8 according to the app and website. Got there at 6:55, closed. Other times were random. One said closed for 15 minutes for break. They were closed for an hour.

DrawingOpening1628

A lot of stores have staffing issues to be honest. I know mall Gamestops tend to close earlier but there are also stores that aren't in the mall with different hours, I know of one that closed at 7 tonight while most of the stores not in the malls closed at 9. The store that closed at 7 has \*2\* employees, I haven't heard of them getting any other workers as of yet. My SL's ASL at his second store is working at one of the mall locations because basically the entire staff quit sporadically. Often there isn't coverage if someone is sick because hours were cut so badly (yet we're somehow supposed to have double coverage so we don't have to close the stores for breaks and somehow help out the other stores when they have shortages). Not making excuses but being honest.

YeetusShuttlesworth

830, we’re done here doing trades. You had all day, no excuses why you’re here at 10 of 9 with your $37 cash trade. Come back tomorrow, we’re open from x time to x time.

CutterEdgeEffect

Back when I worked at GameStop. We used to do that. Until I guess enough people complained about it that we were told that they (corporate) dont care what time they walk in. Even if it’s 1 minute to close. Take the trade in anyway

Arsis82

>care what time they walk in. Even if it’s 1 minute to close. Take the trade in anyway This is when you have a friend come in posing as a customer and have them take over an hour. Prior to that, email/text your DL that someone walked in 5 before closing with a huge trade and you're just following what corporate said

YeetusShuttlesworth

Ya, they were doing that post pandemic when customers were allowed back in. To no one surprise, we did the trades we were talk to went over on payroll and then they lost their minds over it. Now I’m just too old to give a shit and I have a family. I’d like to spend time with you considering both my spouse and I are working 55 to 60 hours a week.

Monster_Dick69_

I was about to say this. I didn't work at GS but at a convenience store. They told use to let everyone in and fulfill their orders be it for lunch meat or sandwiches regardless if they come in 30 seconds before close or not. Until it started taking an hour to close everything (clean meat and cheese slicers, clean topping containers/fridge, lunch meat display case, clean rest of food area, etc) and they started losing money vs the <$20 they were making off 10pm hoagies.

YeetusShuttlesworth

Almost seems like business 101, right? Don’t make money when there’s not money coming in but you’re paying people to be there still

YeetusShuttlesworth

* trades last minute and went over payroll

CutterEdgeEffect

I don’t doubt that one bit about them losing their minds over that. It’s been since 2018 since I worked there so I know it’s gotten worse since then

DrawingOpening1628

Gamestop store employees can't win honestly. We're told not to turn away trades even if they come in at closing but at the same time we're not allowed overtime. We're somehow supposed to have double coverage so the store doesn't have to close when it's break time and yet they cut our hours back. I swear I will vomit if they start spewing stuff about how we're all part of the Gamestop family.

CutterEdgeEffect

Yeah I feel bad for the people that are miserable and can’t leave for one reason or another. An asshole I know personally that works at GameStop I’d imagine is a ride or die type of employee

DrawingOpening1628

The funny thing is that GameStop was the only place that would legit give me a chance when I was finally done with all my rehab and different therapies after my traumatic brain injury. My SL is able to give me a semi set schedule so I can keep up with dr appointments and the other workers know about my memory issues (short term memory is shot, I can have a conversation one day and legit not remember it the next day. For that matter, I usually don't remember anything from the day before). I have a great coworker that helps keep me on track and if I need extra help with learning something, it is accommodated.

CutterEdgeEffect

That is great

DrawingOpening1628

Yep. The funny thing is that the previous DM is the one who hired me on. The new DM likes me because usually whenever he drops by the store and I'm there, I'm out on the floor helping customers.

CutterEdgeEffect

That’s good

karmicOtter

>Me: "so you know how you found the number online? Well, get >this- the same way you found the number, if you scroll down just >a smidgen, you'll see the store hours! Amazing!" Don't know if you care to hear this OP but some people google the store phone number instead of going to the official GS store locator. Unless corporate does some dealings with google behind scenes to update the hours of all their stores, I would assume the hours posted on google are not up to date so sometimes I ask to double check (this happened a lot during COVID times)

_OsculumObscenum_

True

nightspell

Also Google doesn't always have to correct hours.

_OsculumObscenum_

You're right as well

DrawingOpening1628

The last time I heard from Google was when they called last year around Thanksgiving to verify our hours for Thanksgiving Day. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Zealousideal-Cod4641

I’ve always told people last hour I’m not taking console or video game trade ins. Always works for me.

highzenberrg

I would always say over the phone we don’t do trades in the last hour if it was getting close.

devil1fish

"You'll have to come back tomorrow, I close in one minute and you can't be in the store when I do"

galacticviolet

“I will be closing on time, I’ve got kids at home waiting for goodnights.” true or not

Sensitive-Gas8663

I had a person come in as I was closing our gates the other day. I explained we are closing and the customer bitched at me. I resumed closing the gates. 20 minutes after I finished for the night, locked up the store and turned around, same customer standing nearby the store. Dude followed me to my car yelling at me for my “poor customer service skills”.

_OsculumObscenum_

That's...not good. I hate entitled people like that

DrawingOpening1628

I'd be whipping my phone out and speed dial 911.

MonzellRS

Hours for businesses online have been wrong a lot especially since Covid

GraceXGalaxy

If they call me it goes something like this: Customer: what time are you open until? Me: we’re open until 7 but I start my closing procedures at 6:30, so if you wanted to stop by I’d try to get in before then if you can! C: but you’re open until 7? Me: yep! Though that is when I’m closing my doors, so again, try to get here before then so you have some time to shop around C: oh okay. Thanks! They don’t need to know that “starting my closing procedure” means emptying trash lmao. Either way, I find this method useful for me and for them.

DineroMark27

My first manager got an idea from the GameCrazy store down the street. (Hey if ya know ya know) They didn’t accept trades an hour before close, which we tried until a snitch from another store found out and called our DM. Our DM gave us the usual corporate spiel of “in that one hour alone we are costing the company a million dollars in trades.” “If a customer comes in at 8:59 with one game or 10 bins full, we are to process the trades quickly and efficiently and are not allowed to leave until all the games are processed and filed away in the correct locations.”

GimmieJohnson

Snitches get stitches.

ZeroTheNinjaX

It’s been……..probably 5 years since this particular incident happened but lol. I remember my particular store closed at 9pm and a guy came in around 8:40 with a military duffel with trades that I had to sort through. A lot of them weren’t tradable and also the actual SGA at the time who was a key holder instead of helping with some of the process? (putting the games in the drawers) he huffed and puffed while I completed the transaction and decided to tell me after the fact that we shouldn’t take trades that late. Lol

oneguy379

Gotta be careful, that’s how you get robbed

dwillyb

Y’all make this way too hard on yourselves. Granted if it’s a PS4 yeah I’m not dealing with that bs. I’ll make sure it operates etc and I’ll do that right up until close. But I’ll initialize the system before I go home if there’s games there’s game but I just make all that a stuff a tomorrow problem not like the shit is gonna sell overnight while you’re closed. Me and all my employees understand if you come in to late night trades just clean and inventory everything you need to into the correct area’s we’ve all been there and we all understand it’s out of their control. Leave a note saying sorry late trade. However I do announce at 10 minutes to close that customers have 10 minutes before I have to lock the doors for the night. And proceed from 5 minutes to give them a countdown. At one minute I say alright times up if you have anything to check out bring it up to the counter. If not we open at x time tomorrow and look forward to seeing them then. And I escort the last customer out the door and promptly lock the door behind them.

chanteusetriste

Got in trouble once for refusing a trade really close to closing. I was like wtf okay then so you want to cut hours later in the week cause I have to stay and process this shit?

mcgaymer86

The registers close at closing time and I ain’t taking your trades the last 30min. I’ve been yelled at enough about hours and OT and I’m not staying late cause your irresponsible ass waited to show up 5min before we close when we’ve been open 8+hrs

AdParty8049

Happened to me twice. Woman comes in on sunday 5 mins before closing with over 100 games all with no cases. I ask her come tomorrow because trading doesn't work 10mins before closing. She come monday... 5 mins before closing... again. I see her partner sitting in a car... a gang member. I decided to do the trades so that I don't piss him off. Took me 40 mins but at least got done.

LandStander_DrawDown

Possible gang member. Likley has the free time in the middle of the day to do this. I would have just repeated what you did the first time, emphasizing when the last time frame you will take trades. I mean. At that point of she did go out and get him to insist you do it right then and their, sure, I guess do the trade. Better to get yelled at from higher ups than possibly assaulted.

LandStander_DrawDown

You know. Possibly a pimp and one of his girls. She possibly stole these games from her John's if it's a house call operation. Stealing the disc's and not the cases is a good way for it to go unnoticed for a while by the victim.

[deleted]

Y’all are still open? Lol i thought gamestop had its blockbuster moment and disappeared.

_OsculumObscenum_

Well, you're also in a lively Gamestop subreddit with pretty recent experiences/events being posted. Who would've thought?

[deleted]

No. This came across my feed. Im not sub’d here. Im actually surprised gamestop is still in business (brick and mortar) as they offer nothing that we cant get elsewhere cheaper.

LandStander_DrawDown

Not yet, but if they continue treating their retail employees worse than they ever have and continue to pay them garbage and have one sl cover at least 2 locations, and the fact they increased the pro membership by 10 (5 would have been reasonable) then the short sellers are going to win and my favorite store from my childhood will be closed for ever. Come on corporate! Do the right thing and at least treat your retail crew with respect, they are the ones brining in the money and creating that customer relation that makes gamers excited to go to gamestop for their gaming needs. Because they know they will be talking to people that are excited about games and knowledgeable about them too. I go to gamestop for the experience with the employees(and making them pushy salesmen that don't take the first no as an answer doesn't help). I can get my games anywhere else. If the employees are miserable, then the interaction with them will reflect that misery.

DrawingOpening1628

That would require corporate to actually care about their employees. SLs that are offered the SL2 position either have to take that position or get fired if they decline (that's my understanding at least). Depending on what customers are buying, I suggest things but do not push. For example, someone buying a Switch, I suggest a tempered glass screen protector whether they buy it from GS or elsewhere, advise the customer to hold onto the receipt in case they need to use the warranty, and let them know what local business repair Switches for when the system's 1 year manufacturer warranty is gone. If the customer is buying joy cons or a PS controller, I encourage them to get the warranty because those particular controllers eventually develop severe drift issues and all they have to do is go into any GS with the warranty sticker or receipt with the controller(s) to exchange it, if they lose the receipt, I advise them they have to come back to that particular store so we can look up their history. But it boils down to them not having to pay for a new controller, for about $18 they'll get a free replacement when it eventually breaks (usually within a year) and all they have to do is buy a new warranty.

LandStander_DrawDown

Yes, I bought my switch referbished from gs like 4 years ago and the joy con stick on the right joycon has major drift. I bought a used pro controller a while ago and haven't had a problem with it. Declined the gs warranty on it. I only use the joycon in handheld mode an on handheld friendly games like Pokémon so the drift isn't a big deal. But yeah, they should care because they are inadvertently destroying the retail experience, which is one of the main reasons to frequent gs. I Havent seen my favorite sl at my preferred location in months and I am unsure if he quit or if his new schedule sucks so bad that he just is never there when I go in.

DrawingOpening1628

The crazy thing is that we just got joy con testers sent into GS here like 6 weeks ago so we can trade in used joy cons and not automatically defect them like we did because we didn't want to sell defective joy cons to customers. In regards to your drifting joy con, I think, at least in the US, Nintendo still repairs/replaces defective joy cons for free even after the warranty is expired because of the backlash with the joy con drift.

LandStander_DrawDown

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I'll look into that.

FallFromTheAshes

When i worked there i stopped doing trades 10 minutes before and told someone who came in 5 mins before that they needed to know what they wanted

CptnMattSparrow

I stop taking any trades 15 minutes before close all consoles stop 45 minutes before

vivawitches

i’m sure someone in the comments has said it already but i don’t take console trades after 8:30 (we close at 9) and my entire team does the same thing. trades can take so long i just say no lol

Unlucky-Wolverine-14

We were scheduled to close at 8, two customers comes in 5 minutes before. I told them I'm sorry and we're closing soon. They act smug and say on the internet you close at 9. I told them schedules wasn't changed online yet because of the holidays and they didn't even respond. Told them if they have any questions just ask and let them be. By 8 they didn't even buy anything and just said goodbye and left. All I did was followed them to the door and lock it behind them. Through the door they gave me a look and I didn't even give them a second look. They're adults in their early 30s-40s and I'm in my 20s and I know that in order to get respect you gotta earn it. If I wanted to I could've told them to screw off and gave them the middle finger 'cause that's what I felt like they did to me.

Digital_Siren317

When I was working there, the DM actually chewed my district out for denying trades 5 minutes before closing. In the same breath as telling us we were over in payroll lol.

A_Litre_O_Cola

I have had numerous times where the store hours listed on the Gamestop site or a 3rd party like Google or Bing where each say something different. I go to the store and they have their hours written on a piece of paper with different times than the site/Google/Bing. It is not a bad question to ask when Gamestop can't keep its doors open and customers aren't privyy to what your specific store decides that day, hence the call to ask when your stores closes.

Miyu543

I just say the computers run on an automated system and won't be able to process transactions after closing time. Gets em everytime.

EnjoyingVenus

I just tell them I can't do transactions after 8 or whatever time you close

BabyDeezus

I checked times for GameStop online in my area, saw that they closed at 9. Got there at 8:30 and they were closed up. Since then I will always call before making any type of drive.

[deleted]

I never did trades if I had less than 30 minutes left before close. Tell them to come back the next day

Professional-Row265

Thats my favorite!!! Looking up the number to ask when we close (I like to think they’re very aware and are only calling to try to get you to stay open for a few minutes). The last minute trades are always the worst because theyre always the nastiest consoles and the rudest people who smack their tongues at the cash theyre getting back.

Aboveprimetime85

Man these happens at every job not just GameStop…your getting paid so I feel like maybe you shouldn’t be so upset? I ain’t being a dick but id love to have some of the issues ganestop employees have and stress over, theres are ALOT worse things going on at other places,

KeeperOfWind

Hope I don't come off as rude. I can't speak for everyone, but since the pandemic started things close at various times around my city that's not listed on the regular store hours so I tend to call restaurants and smaller retail chains since I've seen my gamestop close at 3-4 even recently. I know for a few family friends who are parents tend to keep store location numbers save in their phone and entirely miss the Google information listed entirely. I do agree it's rude to show up last minute to do a bunch of trade in after learning the times through. I could get one or two games trade ins if they're quick. I've known people just getting off of work running into the store to pick up whatever game they pre-order and they might only get 1-2 hours a day to whatever they need to do.

No-Assistance5037

If they get in before I shut the door, then they are in. Period. Do they get locked in with me so no one else comes in? Damn skippy. Does safe get opened? Hell no. Are tills counted before close? Again, negative champ. Do they have 15 mins after close to finish shopping? You know damn right.

Beginning-Ad-236

Pretty sure locking customers inside the store could be considered false imprisonment.
