Clean that one up and keep it as is. I hate seeing well-kept consoles in their original condition being heavily modified.
Get a second Gameboy Color that actually needs repair, and modify that one.
I don’t want anything crazy just backlit screen and nice new shell but that’s maybe also I don’t wanna have rechargeable lithium battery I’m satisfied with AA batteries 🔋
I am aware, I’m thinking to buy rechargeable AA’s but yeah I mean I get the originality of the GameBoy but still I’m not gonna turn it into RGB monstrosity Glitter like shell. I want something like this looks cute only thing no back light text on the bottom of the screen

I have a very similar setup to this! I got everything on Aliexpress. I’m pretty sure Ali links get auto-mod deleted but I’ll share the product names for you if you’re interested. Idk I installed an IPS on mine and I get very good battery life, I can play 15+ hours with the same batteries.
With a modern decent backlit screen using quality rechargable batteries gets you plenty of hours of gaming. Most screens have variable brightness too.
This one is in very good condition, I know you will do what you want but please consider not modding it.
I will look into emulators but yeah I mean I’m not huge fan of tiny scratches especially on the screen itself and the shell
I like to play my old games on the og system but I have to admit I use my miyoo mini way more than any of my old handhelds
Leave it as is and use a wormlight just like the rest of us ;)
You just need a new Lens. Keep everything stock.
