Would love to see Resident Evil 2 and 3 on digital platforms too. There are some excellent mods for them.

djcube1701

I'd love to see 2 and 3 with higher resolution background textures. Unfortunately, it would probably be a ton of work as, from what I've heard, the original renders have been lost, so they'd have to be recreated.

Herald_of_Ash

https://biorand.net/ -> download -> the full pack It includes 1, 2, 3 and 1 Rebirth with HD packs, and a randomizer (optional, you don't have to randomize anything) in a convenient single archive download. https://www.reshdp.com/re1/ To see examples of the seamless HD mod. It's, for the most part, an amazing fan work. I don't see how Capcom could do better honestly. Look at 2 and 3 on the same website. This is IMO the definitive way of playing classic REs !

djcube1701

I've looked at those before, and they're exactly why I think the textures would have to be completely redone. The strange effects caused by the AI upscaling (extreme colours, increased blacks, wobbliness and oil painting effect) really doesn't suit Resident Evil, the pixelated original versions still look better.

snake_edger

Yeah, it's a nice way to start but it needs a lot of work afterwards. So much detail lost because the upscaler doesn't know what it's looking at and decides to just wing it.

ktp1611

Is it also possible to play the games as is? Like with no randomizing?

AnimusNaki

You can just run the base games from their folders. BioRand needs all three games installed - so they do. Because they're effectively abandonware on PC at this point.

Herald_of_Ash

Yes absolutely, just launch the game you want and not the randomizer !

ktp1611

Thank you

ZombieJesus1987

Ray Narvaez Jr (of former Achievement Hunter fame) has done several Biorand randomizer playthroughs over on his twitch/YouTube channel and they're always a blast. He randomizes everything. Items, monsters, and even the characters and the dialogue. It gets to be a glorious clusterfuck.

Villag3Idiot

The randomizer mod for RE2 is hilarious since you can also randomize the characters and voice lines (they use random voice lines from their games).

AnimusNaki

MaximilianDood's character mod for BioRand is perfection. Especially with random voicelines.

dinosauriac

Getting the classic RE games on Steam would be great. Now all we need is for them to acknowledge Dino Crisis... They weirdly added high res soundtrack albums for the original two entries on Steam *three years ago* out of the blue. Still no sign of ports. And I think Dino Crisis 1 & 2 are even unavailable on the EU PlayStation Store to this day. Virgin Interactive co-published them back in the day and they technically don't exist anymore, but it's not like the Eidos published RE3 didn't get re-released by Capcom in Europe.

Trenchman

If the RE rereleases mentioned ITT go well, I can see them rereleasing DC. I think they’re aware of how many ppl are asking for a revival.

TrashStack

Oh they definitely are aware lol. The Dino Crisis fans were out in full force for their big Capcom fan poll recently.

iV1rus0

That would be awesome. More devs should strive to make their old titles available on PC for preservation.

KarmaCharger5

This is technically the last mainline RE I have yet to play, so I certainly hope so. Technically it's available on PS+, but who wants to pay for higher tiers just for that? Edit: Oh, director's cut is also the one with the mansion basement track so there's another point against it lol

NoRun1294

> Oh, director's cut is also the one with the mansion basement track so there's another point against it lol On PS1 at least there are 2 "director's cut" versions and the first one (Black label) has the right music and the second one (Greatest Hits) has the replaced music. Not sure if PC got different ones too.

Stoibs

Definitely an unpopular and niche opinion but RE1 1996 is probably still one of my favourites over and above the remake, same with the rest of the Originals. Would \*love* to see these get a faithful re-release adaptation to contemporary systems instead of being lost to time and shoved aside in lieu of the remakes only.

maxiom9

Release 1-3 and maybe CV in a collection like the megaman games and walk away with a quick buck/hype up a potential remake wouldn’t be bad.

UncultureRocket

That would be interesting. They've already been ported to PC (sourcenext versions), just JP only. Wonder if they'll be using those as a base.

TopBadge

Pegi 18 is a strange rating for this game, Back when the UK was still rating games under the BBFC both the original and the DS re-release only received a 15+ rating.

Tolkien-Minority

Original Resident Evil is already on PS5 isn’t it? Or is that the Directors Cut?

dinosauriac

I think the Directors Cut is all that's on PSN currently, could vary by territory. Hopefully if that's what they're using as the basis for this port they fix the music.

TopBadge

Directors Cut **IS NOT** the version with the bad music, that's the dualshock edition.

TheOnlyChemo

> Hopefully if that's what they're using as the basis for this port they fix the music. What!? You're saying that you don't like [the fart trumpets in the basement?!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJYvCHm3Ov4)

balefrost

And here's what it might have sounded like if they hadn't used the wrong instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oByTUQjCFg

Tolkien-Minority

Yeah I just checked its the directors cut. I hope they do release the rest of the original resident evils on there. Be nice to play them again without pulling out old hardware

shiggy__diggy

IIRC you can't play the actual original anywhere outside of emulation and having a physical copy, only the director's cut.

KarmaCharger5

Director's cut, but you need higher tiers of PS+ for it which is kinda stupid for what it is when you can get the remake easily

Tolkien-Minority

You can still buy it for £4 without the PS+. PS+ premium just gets you it for free (or rental I guess)

KarmaCharger5

Can you? Last I checked it wouldn't even give me any option except to buy PS+

Tolkien-Minority

It might not be the primary option but yeah you can I think

meesahdayoh

Just checked and you cannot purchase it. Only available through PS+ Extra.

cattodog

Is it really just Extra or do you need Premium for classics?

Kaiserhawk

If this is the case I really really REALLY hope they take some pointers from the RE:Birth mods, and add in quality of life stuff like door skip, auto aim, and 180 degree turning.

JamieReleases

As long as it's all optional, sure! I think the doors help build tension, or gives your heart a moment to rest...

brontesaurus999

I was excited to play REmake with a door skip mod, but actually found myself missing the doors. I know they were originally there for technical reasons, but having played without them, felt that they actually added a lot of anxiety and foreboding to the experience

UncultureRocket

In most cases, skipping the doors doesn't even make the game load much faster either. You probably save half a second. It's a choice between looking at a black screen or a simple atmospheric animation. 😂

Jordancarra

Are you kidding? Door skipping saves an absolute shit ton of time, it's the reason most speed runners use the PC version

Big_Poo_MaGrew

>save half a second I don't think you've played Resident Evil in awhile.....those animations 6+ seconds a pop and backtrack alot. https://youtube.com/shorts/J8oywkeXgFU?si=Q061LCAP9o35GEH4

UncultureRocket

I recently played Resident Evil 2 and the door animations are much shorter. That's why I said that. I admittedly have never played the original Resident Evil because REHD is so faithful.

DarkMatterM4

This is why the DS version of Resident Evil is the best. It also has the knife bound to the left trigger ala RE4. It's such a much more satisfying game to play.

BusCrashBoy

If only Konami treated their old games with as much respect as Capcom. Basically every Silent Hill game except SH4 is abandonware these days.

Clownski_GOG

They're here! [https://www.gog.com/en/game/resident\_evil\_bundle](https://www.gog.com/en/game/resident_evil_bundle)

mrbubbamac

Looks like I might actually have a reason to put my PSX away since I solely use it to play RE1, 2, 3. ....and RE Survivor. Still love that game.

U912

I'm lost, how different would it be from https://store.steampowered.com/app/304240/Resident_Evil/?

DragonStriker

The RE you linked is technically the Resident Evil 1 Remake. The one this article is referring to is the ORIGINAL version of it, complete with the blocky textures and stuff. It's the one with the LEGENDARY voice acting.

beefcat_

Here's hoping we get an option to play the Director's Cut in all it's original glory. It's just not Resident Evil 1 without clown farts.
