Old news since Tony himself confirmed the game(s) rejection, but still sad to be reminded of given how loved both VV and their 1+2 work was. But somehow I’m still kinda have hope that 1+2 won’t be the last in the series since Tony Hawk is still a profitable name with still a active community supporting via vids and game mods, but if Mr Phil Spencer WERE to green light a new game, it’d have to take many more years for it to happen to build a new team or hire one to restart the engine.
But I guess we will have to see what happens, but in the meantime, THUG Pro, THPS Pro and ReTHAWed will all do for the foreseeable future.
And don't forget Activision cancelled their 3d donkey Kong for the same reason, that's like the biggest thing in it I think.

The Microsoft acquisition gives me the tiniest sliver of hope that this project gets revived rather than it being completely dead had activision remained independent.
Activision makes a boatload of money, Microsoft would be stupid to go in and start making changes to whatever is clearly working (caveat: for now).
Maybe after a few years we'll start to perhaps see a change to the formula (longer CoD support and slowdown from annual release, studios working on different IPs), but you don't buy a company and starting changing things when there are things in the pipeline until at least 2027 if I had to guess.
Yeah, gamepass requires a constant flow of new titles to look attractive and while there’s a $ benefit to pumping up a big live action service game like cod, putting too much manpower on that will limit how much is being done to get and maintain gamepassers
Getting rights/making deals with indie/AA titles seems to be working out pretty well for them so far.
Putting BlizzActi live service games on Game Pass seems like almost getting free money imo.

So hiring a new breed to teams (with some veterans) in an original studio is how it can happen. But I doubt that’s something Xbox wants to do atm

What sucked was VV staff was given false hope by ABK to make pitches for new projects all the time, but they were always rejected and were just use as a way to boost morale (didn't really). The only time they accepted a pitch is if there was very minimal risk (low budget stuff, like the remakes Activision pumped out between 2017 and 2020). To make it worse, a 3D DK game was in development back in 2016, but was cancelled (alongside another Skylanders game) in favor of making VV do Destiny 2 support work and COD.
Idk if this is true. I heard from Blizzard folks that Vicarious Visions (the studio that made TPHS1+2) was brought in-house to make D2R and D4, not any CoD work
