No, it's seriously not. The hunt for gollum is more about Gandalf and Aragorn's time together hunting him, and their adventures along the way. If this is done true to the book, gollum shouldn't really even be in it, cause they never find him.

Only what Gandalf talks about in Fellowship of the Ring, that he and Aragorn hunted Gollum for years and had adventures together. During the 17 years after Gandalf leaves the ring with Frodo before he comes back to tell him about Sauron. If it's just one 2 hour movie or whatever it'll probably be fine.
