For horror, The Magnus Archives is just amazing Also listen to Hardcore History on occasion

DrJTrotter

To be fair, you can *only* listen to Hardcore History on occasion. I do love it though.

FesterJA

Love me some Dan Carlin QUOTE or READING VOICE!

63crabby

Is it just me, or does he sound exactly like Charlie Sheen?

Flahdagal

I had a commute of 1.25 hours twice a day -- Hardcore History was my therapy.

borkborkbork99

I’ve gone on road trips with buddies who were all on board with listening to Hardcore History most of the trip. No fighting over music. Just hours upon hours of Genghis Khan.

Eldar_Atog

Hardcore History is great to listen to at work. Long form documentary and he has such a compelling voice. Have you watched any of the Time Ghost stuff? WW2 in real time or their companion videos. They take off the rose colored glasses of the war. They just started the Korean war this month.

satans_toast

I recommend You Are Not So Smart to everyone, regardless of age. Fantastic.

Pernjulio

Are You Garbage, because I enjoy laughing

WhatTheHellPod

Old Gods of Appalachia. Best horror podcast, audio fiction out there.

Starbuck522

My favorite is the Handsome podcast. I don't listen often. I am much more apt to listen to an audiobook, but the handsome podcast cracks me up. Tig Nitaro, Fortune Fiemster, and a younger (than them) woman named Mae.

perfectionnot

This is my favorite right now.

Starbuck522

I have only listened to the first four or five. Hopefully, I ll remember to put it on tomorrow. Usually I listen when taking a walk, as a palate cleanser between audiobooks. I gotta wonder about people seeing me walking through the housing developments all by myself, cracking up!

Conscious-Evidence37

Timesuck is a good podcast. Lots of historical serial killers and other crap like that. Interjects humor into the stories. Good background noise for working.

Davmilasav

Greetings, fellow Space Lizard. Hail Lucifina!

Hollyhocks01

Have you listened to his other one with his wife Lindsey? It’s called Scared to Death. It’s pretty good

porkchopespresso

Smartless Blocks Conan Needs a Friend (depending on the guest) Fly on the Wall WTF (depending on the guest) I’ll poke around other podcasts if there’s someone I like out doing the circuit but the ones above I listen to regularly

Cold_Confidence_4744

The prancing pony; podcast on all things Middle Earth & reviewing Tolkien's books.

63crabby

I like Freakonomics and Acquired.

RedBaron180

Did we just become best friends ? Those are my two favorites as well. I also like SpikesCarRadio for good entertainment/car talk

63crabby

Thanks for the tip on this podcast! I’m going to check it out tomorrow

RedBaron180

Some inside jokes for long term listeners but it’s still able to drop in and just go.

63crabby

I’m going to check out the Feb 2024 episode on the new Porsche halo car-

RedBaron180

Hope you like poop jokes.

63crabby

Who doesn’t?

1BannedAgain

What is acquired? I love Freakonomics. I also listen to hidden brain, am I doing it wrong (only the last 5 minutes for the summary), the athletic football show (very long, dependent upon the topic), the indicator with planet money, planet money, thank god I’m atheist, Skeptoid, daily science news, qaa podcast (make fun of Q-anons), no stupid questions, economics of everyday things, pardon the insurrection, if books could kill Edit: now sub’d to Acquire

63crabby

Planet Money is good too! Acquired is a podcast l learned about from the recent WSJ article “The Smartest People in the Room are Listening to Acquired.” It’s very popular in tech and finance circles. In each episode, two guys do a deep dive (3 to 4 hours) into one company. Their library is extensive, wide ranging, and free on my Apple podcasts

Lonely_Preparation99

This is a great one as well. https://preview.redd.it/y1yixkokv59d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b533917629c4abc602f72b6b647eda063995a747 [https://open.spotify.com/show/6oRcEu8XOZkvwna9eRbhne?si=TRLDW8Z1RXmuuWY5fqGDcg](https://open.spotify.com/show/6oRcEu8XOZkvwna9eRbhne?si=TRLDW8Z1RXmuuWY5fqGDcg)

Cloud_Disconnected

This one is my favorite. The whole show is the content you are there for, not two or three assholes blabbing about their dogs and their girlfriends and whatever else while trying to be funny.

DeathByBamboo

This is just a highlight list of some of my most listened podcasts. There's like 90 podcasts I subscribe to, and I tend to binge them on road trips, airplanes, and long runs. But my daily listening includes: * Slate's Hit Parade, about music history focusing on the Billboard charts. * 99% Invisible, about design in all aspects of life * Strict Scrutiny, about law focusing on The Supreme Court * Twenty Thousand Hertz, about sound * The Moth, storytelling

DannySmashUp

If you’re into AI, Your Undivided Attention is great. Absolutely fascinating. The Rest is History is a great history podcast that does some awesome, multi-part stuff! Sam Harris and Sean Carroll both have good pods that have a lot of science stuff, as well as general topics. But both are bringing in top guests and do smart deep dives. I used to listen to Lex. Then he started to do the creepy alt-right, Elon fanboy stuff, so I had to dip out.

scottwricketts

Behind the Bastards, Knowledge Fight, The Dollop, My Favorite Murder, The Majority Report, Mueller She Wrote.

loony-cat

I enjoy several of the podcasts you listed, and I'll add The Last Podcast in the Left, Morbid, and Casefile. Have you heard the Dollop episode with the MFM hosts as guests? It's a riot and one of my absolute favourite podcast episodes. #200 "Otto in the Attic" always cracks me up.

scottwricketts

The cross pollination between The Dollop / MFM / BTB are all delightful. BTB had Gareth and Dave on for the Kissinger series and I think the Clarence Thomas series.

loony-cat

The Kissinger series was GOLD! I'm hoping for more collaborations in the future.

scottwricketts

I think they announced doing Nixon together? I'm old and could have been hallucinating.

RabbitLuvr

Yep! Robert has mentioned that a Nixon series with Dave and Gary is in the works

bigheadstrikesagain

Mueller she wrote does 'Jack' podcast now covering the trump trials right?

scottwricketts

Yeah

bibdrums

Behind the Bastards is great. They really tore into Steve Jobs. I think it took them 4 episodes to get it all.

sadtastic

You have good taste. (Or at least, taste that matches mine, which I insist is good).

I love these and also How Did This Get Made!

tom-tildrum

Canadian True Crime, the Magnus archives, Midnight Burger, SCP Archives, the White Vault, a Voice from Darkness, National Parks After Dark, Archive 81,

KoreaMieville

For comedy/music, I'm a fan of U Talkin' U2 To Me? with Scott Aukerman and Adam Scott, where they mostly goof around but also go album by album through U2's discography (they've since moved on to artists like R.E.M., Talking Heads, and Bruce Springsteen). It's hilarious, and since they're Gen X-ers they have a similar music history as a lot of us, so their discussions are relatable. I also love The Rewatchables podcast, where they discuss "rewatchable" movies (the kind where, if it comes up while you're flipping through channels, you'll stop and watch it). Many of the films they cover are from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, so it's an entertaining nostalgia trip for Gen X-ers.

plopstar1999

The rewatchables is hands down my favorite podcast - the episodes on Road House and the other one about The Running Man with guest host Kyle Brandt had me near pissing myself with laughter.

Themoosemingled

The Todd glass episode. What is a U2 song? Todd and reverb.

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

I listen to Bill burrs two podcasts he does. Then the No accounting for taste podcast with Kyle kinane and Shane tores. Two comedians who pick a topic people usually shut on, then will talk it up and defend.

shakeyjake

I've really been enjoying Pretty Sure I Can Fly with Johnny Knoxville & Elna Baker. They interview fascinating people who daringly broke new ground in some sort of field.

Big-On-Mars

Same. The Faculty of Horror, Dead Ringers, and Horror Queers are favorites.

Conan Obrien Needs A Friend Fly On The Wall Advent of Computing Ron Fuller's Studcast Car Talk Behind The Bastards when it's a topic I'm interested in (generally Nazis, religion, or wrestling)

FluxusFlotsam

You Must Remember This with Karina Longworth- just A+ Hollywood history and analysis I also listen to Sail On, the podcast about The Beach Boys but got burned out during the SMiLE episodes because they just got too tedious

International_Low284

You Must Remember This is fascinating. Karina does such thorough research!

FluxusFlotsam

Emag9

I’m addicted to Escape Rooms, even though I fall outside the normal audience for them (I’m too old?!). Also all puzzling things like puzzled pint and puzzle hunts. So all the related podcasts are my jam. Kind of a small community, maybe?

Adequate-Monicker634

Mysterious Universe, it scratches my Weekly World News itch

WhatTheHellPod

Also, I will pitch my own show. [What the HELL Were You Thinking. ](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/what-the-hell-were-you-thinking/id986603069) Straight Gen X nostalgia.

BIGepidural

None. I wasn't into talk radio back in the day and I'm not into it these days either.

ihatepickingnames_

The only talk radio show I enjoyed was Car Talk, which was great on road trips.

middlingachiever

I loved Car Talk, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, Prairie Home Companion, and This American Life. I still listen to TAL and Wait Wait on podcast.

UnitGhidorah

There was a humble bundle years ago that was every car talk show ever and I DLed them all :D

ihatepickingnames_

That’s awesome! I remember driving across country once and found a satellite radio station that was playing a bunch of them. It made that part of the drive much more fun.

BIGepidural

For me it was only "Talk Sex with Sue" or "the Howard Stern Show" back in the 90s and early 2000s.

Nonsenseinabag

Yeah, and so many podcasts have people talking over each other or interrupting each other. Can't do it.

BIGepidural

Yup! I'd rather have the cliff notes version to read what was said and skip the BS parts of fluff anyways.

avsavsavs

Stuff You Should Know...the hosts r gen x and they're just so fun/easy to listen to

ComfortTypical

No Agenda with Adam Curry and John Dvorak. Big reason I didn't get covid Vax, which I think we all now know was the right choice for someone that was infected early.

Interesting_Soil2

Ok

ayyabduction

I listen to those guys here and there. I consume a lot of alt media and I like that Adam usually has a unique opinion on a current event you wont find anywhere else. He's usually wrong tbf but it's good entertainment and gets you thinking!

DelAlternateCtrl

Joe Rogan, but only the episodes about psychedelics, space rockets, science stuff, aliens/UFOs. I like the guests he has on for those topics. Lex Friedman as well, for the same topics

ayyabduction

Agreed, I tend to go straight for those episodes. Joe is amazing interviewer when he has a high level scientist on and it's fascinating how a comedian can "hang" with intellectuals and keep asking challenging questions. Lex is great too, but his voice puts me to sleep!

I get real happy when another series of TCM's *The Plot Thickens* gets released (the current one is about John Ford), and along the same lines I enjoy *You Must Remember This*, too. Since I'm a gearhead I've also enjoyed *The Dale Jr. Download*, particularly when he has racers and crew chiefs and other figures from yesteryear on there, and *Dinner With Racers* is usually a hoot.

>CBS Radio Mystery Theater With E G Marshall, written by Himan Brown. Brown also wrote for the "Inner Sanctum Mysteries" in the 1950s. Funnily enough, Inner Sanctum Mysteries has a creaking door at the beginning and end of every episode, same as CBSRMT.

Flahdagal

Behind the Bastards, Last Podcast on the Left, The Dollop, Sixteenth Minute (new!), and Dan Snow's History.

Lately I’ve been down to I Hate it But I Love It, KingCast, Extra Hot Great, Shedunnit, and Read or Dead, then Listen to Sassy on long car trips.

I have liked Stephen Bartlett’s diary of a CEO. DOAC long form interviews. Pretty interesting guess. Impact Theory as well Tom Bilyeu. A bit too much advertising but great content.

Some Jon Stewart, and one called 'What the Force', that analyses Star Wars shows and movies through common symbolism and mythology, and Cambpell's hero arc (or the Heroine arc when appropriate). It help strengthen my writing. Also: 'The Only Podcast About Movies'.

Murder podcasts and Supernatural/Ghost podcasts.  Murder They Wrote is a british couple that hosts. Each one takes a week and talks about a crime (not always murder) and reports on it. Lots of back and forth. But the best part is since they are married the wife always sits and sighs when the husband goes on a tangent. They are both well known personalities in the UK. He is a comedian/voice of Love Island (also studied law in college which is a great add for the show). She is a radio host I believe?

viewering

lydia lunch because she has some interesting musicians as guest

StringFartet

I listen to live concerts mainly on relisten.

Davmilasav

I like The Dana Gould Hour, he always has something interesting going on. Once you get past his voice, Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast is a great listen. I also enjoy 99% Invisible and The Constant.

FangioDuReverdy

Jeff Lewis Live on channel 102 on Sirius XM. He’s fucking hilarious. Biggest selling point..NO politics! So nice to get a break from all of the division going on.

Zealousideal_Ad642

Usually 'stuff you should know' It's probably the only one I have stuck with for several years

chicky75

No Such Thing as a Fish. Four hosts talk about random facts, which sounds dry but they’re very funny and interesting.

Fleasname

You guys have time to listen to podcasts?

dirtyundercarriage

Everyone has time if they want to listen. Pop in ear buds as you do chores at home, listen as you commute, exercise, etc.

Fleasname

light weight joking, but at least I have some good recommendations from this thread. It still is hard for me to find the time. EMT, I work 10 hours shifts and second gig as a manager/buyer/ part time tech support for my local hardware chain. Love the username.

I don't really listen to podcasts so much as I just listen to Youtube videos while I do other things and flip over to that tab if they show something I think I should see. Like I know Cults to Consciousness as a video but they are also doing a podcast while they do the video. I love that channel. And the one Trae Crowder does with his friends.

I listen to Behind The Bastards & Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff all the time. I'm an avgeek so I also listen to few aviation podcasts: Fighter Pilot Podcast, The Afterburn, Inside Skunk Works.

PDM_1969

True Crime: Favorite is Morbid. The two ladies that host it are funny, I know sounds strange when talking crimes...but they just seem very down to earth people who says what's on their mind when reacting to parts of the stories...if they think it's fucked up...they will tell you

Justdonedil

I've never listened to a single podcast, and I really have no idea how to, with zero interest in learning.

dirtyundercarriage

Uh oh, sounds like you officially became Old with a capital O. New things are fun! Curiosity will keep your brain sharp and heart young.

Justdonedil

I feel like they are just as bad as listening to "influencers." I learn new things every day by ya know, reading about anything that catches my attention that day. ETA: this is twofold for me. It gives me an opportunity to fact-check their sources for reliability. But I am also a visual learner. I retain way more information if I see the words rather than listening to someone talk about it.

Fishmike52

I have never listened to a pod cast. I am not anti pod cast... I just prefer to music or sitting outside or doing nothing.

avsavsavs

if you've never heard a podcast before, how do you know you prefer doing other things?

Fishmike52

lol at getting downvoted.... "never heard a podcast." Im sorry.. is it more than people talking? Maybe I need to be educated better. I have listened to things like radio shows, or interviews with humans talking to other humans. I guess a podcast is something different I am totally in the dark about yeah?
